The alistar updates

I'm a longtime alistar player and I'd like to talk about the recent rework of his kit. Not necessarily the reworked abilities in particular, but the reason for it taking place and the overarching effect on his playstyle. A post by Riot said something to the effect of "have you noticed how LCS players on alistar tend to just walk around a lot?" Then they discussed why this isn't fun and how it needs to be 'fixed' and blah blah.

Here's the thing: if I play alistar, it's because I enjoy playing alistar. I'm much older than the average player, and I feel as if I have a tendency to stick with the champs who require a more patient, less mechanical style. Ones who rely on timing and decision-making rather than fast reflexes... like (old) alistar. I play alistar because I want to spend time JUST WALKING AROUND WAITING. That's fun for me- the new trample/triumphant roar mechanics are not. You have effectively taken away alistar's unique identity as a sort of "counter puncher" and relegated him to being just another guy who has to wade into combat and hit a bunch of stacks of whatever to reach his full potential. Boring.

If you, Riot, really honestly feel as if your game needs a champion who plays differently from alistar, then make a new champion. Why mess up one who: already exists; is entirely viable in the metagame and has been for quite some time; isn't supremely broken and doesn't cause the game to be not-fun for opponents? Let us old guys have our slow paced champions who don't do much until the time is right... stop trying to force us all into the same playstyle.

I honestly feel the new alistar was more fun to play, more aggressive and was not limited to just doing his combo.

As a non-alistar player, i stopped playing cause i felt stupid in lane. Didn't do anything that the opponents weren't already ready for and at times didn't feel like I made an impact as a support player.

So i welcome the change it's interesting and modern in my opinion.

I mean...

It's not like Alistar actually does much more than he used to, he's just got one AA at the end of his E that stuns, and for the rest of the time in his E he walks around dealing passive damage in the area around him. He still walks around a lot, just now he's rewarded for doing so, while changing his mana-sink of an E into a passive.
