Leaver Compensation Suggestion Thread
First off, my proposals exclusively are for the solo/duo ranked queue. If you're doing ranked teams, it's on you if one of your own disconnects rather than a random person you have no control over. All frustration for leavers for anybody who has played this game remotely long comes from solo/duo ranked queue.
Of course some 4v5s are winnable, but those 4v5s would not even be contested with a 5th person, and there are plenty of 4v5s where you're just completely wasting your time. I can't "carry" a 4v5 if I got last in the pick order and was given support, while the ADC disconnects.
The blatantly obvious thing to do to is to prevent the losing team from suffering a loss of LP with the exception of the leaving player, while still giving the winners LP as normal. To determine if the player was a "leaver", they must have a red name at the end of the game, as Riot can already detect if a player was gone for the majority of the match or not with that system anyway. To prevent the only possible abuse of this system, if the leaving player was in a duo with somebody, they will also lose LP for the game, even if they did not personally leave.
To save time from playing what is oftentimes a pointless game, Riot can also use Dota's system, where if a player does not connect before first blood (they can still connect within the first 2 minutes in case a player tries to feed first blood), the game is not scored for anybody (Except for as a loss by the leaver and his partner if he has one) and can be left freely. Yes, this would take the time of searching for a new game, but far less time than being forced to play useless and very demoralizing 4v5s.
While Riot's game engine probably could not function with allowing you to control 2 champions at once like Dota, it would also be nice if we could swap control to a champion who's player left, so that I can play as the ADC that I worked to feed but disconnected instead of being expected to take towers as their support.
