Ranked placement?

Let me preface this by saying that I understand roughly how the current MMR system works.

I haven't been a big fan of ranked in the past, partially because of the highly competitive environment, partially because I didn't want to commit to playing as often as it seemed to require. The first season I played I placed silver four and decided to play a few more games before realizing that even if I did make it to gold I would decay out. Last season I didn't even play. Recently, Riot has made a lot of new changes to ranked play, from the new(ish) MMR and draft mode messing around with solo/duo and flex queue. This season I decided to get back into it, as I felt the game was in a much healthier system and player state.

So for the past few days I've been grinding out ranked games to get my placement. Overall, i have nothing to say that isn't positive about my in-game experience. League is still the game I fell in love with several years ago and the new queue types seem to have had an effect on curbing player disappointment. I picked fill every game to try to make sure whatever team I got had roles they were happy with, and played support in half of my games, and a surprisingly even mix of jungle, mid-lane, and bottom for the rest (no top though). My cs-ing could have used some work, since I'm used to support, but I managed to scrape up eight wins, and earned two more rank seven tokens in my most played champions. (I probably could have won nine, but in my 11/7/4 mid Lux game our Kalista apparently couldn't access the shop; bug Rito?)

By the end of my tenth placement game I landed in a whopping Bronze V...[slayer-jinx-unamused]

As previously mentioned, I know a bit about the MMR system, so I know that not playing ranked last season probably hurt my MMR, though I'm not sure exactly how much. However, what gives? How did I place so low? Is it just that anyone who didn't play ranked a season ago is starting off with 0 MMR, instead of the usual new-player assumed average, or is there some other factor I don't know about bringing down my score? [zombie-brand-mindblown]

TL;DR: I won eight out of ten placement games with an average of an A- champion mastery score and got placed Bronze V. Now I'm wondering what went wrong.

To clarify: I'm not upset, I'll just go back to playing unranked and not looking for any achievements outside of happy team members and a respectable KDA; I'm just confused and slightly worried about other players being fed up with ranked.

Dunno. I played shitty placement matches with pretty terrible grades and got placed B2. My friend played one hell of a series (9 wins) and got B1. He was silver 5 last season, so I don't know whats up with that.
