Dear high elo players...

I've heard that Illaoi is really bad at high elos, an I just don't get it. (Once again, i'm gonna preface this with saying that i'm bronze so take everything i say with a shit ton of grains of salt). But in my elo Illaoi destroys EVERYTHING.

The only thing I can think of is that high elo players may be better at dodging her Q an E and just not fighting her with heer ult on. But I feel her E is really annoying to dodge, has a very misleading hitbox, and is WAY too punishing to get hit by. (I lose out on so much cs that the gold I get from killing tentacles just isn't enough to compensate) Her ult heals for SO MUCH and does so much damage that if she pops it in a teamfight where its a massive clusterf*ck so no one walks out of it, and BOOM!- instant penta.

I just want to know how you high elo players do it. Is it just what I mentioned, or is it more? Thank you! :D

It's because everything Illaoi does is very, very telegraphed. I personally feel like she's actually one of the most fun and fair champs to fight, just because there's a clear window of opportunity when she's attacking. Sure her hitboxes may be a bit wonky, but a skilled player will know where an attack will actually hit, not where it looks like it will hit.

Tentacle smash (Q) is easily avoidable; her E Test of Spirit can be played around in lane if you always draw a line between you and the Illaoi. There should always be a minion between you and her in that line. After she uses it; you're free for 20 seconds. Even if your soul is grabbed you can also fight her so long as you make sure that you keep dodging her Q since she maxes it last and 25% damage transmission is nothing.

Her Ultimate is just something to keep in mind. In teamfights she will never get close enough to use it on multiple people and there's enough hard CC flying around that she's just not a problem.

Actually, illaoi will typically max E first.

Main thing is dodging her Tenticle Smash and dodging her E. Hell if youre playing someone durable like Darius or a high damage champ like Riven or Fiora you dont have to worry about her damage so long as you dodge her E. Her E applifies her damage to one shot territory so dodge that and youre fine.

Walk away from her tentacle zone and she is useless.

So literally 0 kill potential in lane? Only using ranged attacks when CSing? That's some interactive gameplay! :D

I mean. When any champion gets fed as hard as the Illaoi did in the game that inspired this post it's bad.

She was 0/2 and me and the jg were ganking top and she ulted and like 50-0'd me (Talon) and Warwick with one smack with her ult. Got a 2 for 1 trade in a 3v2.

Walk away. Come back 20 seconds later. Claim gold.

She was 0/2... I shouldn't need to stay away from her for 20 seconds when i'm at half health and I have 2 teammates with me. Makes no sense

Illaoi is easy to play against, because she has virtually no cc, meaning that the answer is always- don't fight her. She can't force you to fight her, and you can sit behind minions to avoid her e. She's arguably the best DEFENSIVE champion in the game, but severely lacks offensive ability.

Everything in her kit that does damage is dodgeable and fairly slow. Her W's nothing but an auto reset with a slight gap close, that mainly does damage by causing her tentacles to attack the target, which is dodgeable. She can do alot of damage with her ultie, but its the only thing in her kit thats good for teamfights, and rely's on that the enemy team cant just disengage or move when she does it.
