Support Mains... How Was Your Climb?

I'll start by saying I'm a support main. Even in other games like mmo's, I played support classes. Its just my playstyle. Anyway, I've been an on-and-off casual LoL player for 4-5 years. I've finally started to get into Ranked SoloQ. Finished my placements last night 4-6 and got placed into Bronze 1. All 10 games I played support. Hoping to get out and stay out of Bronze while maining support by end of season.

I'm interested in hearing how other support mains are doing and your stories. Where did you place for the first time? What is your rank now? How was the journey to get there? Who is your main?

I'm also open to advice. Still learning to improve.

Mainly use: Janna Karma Leona Also have: Thresh Soraka Morgana Nami Sona

I've been finding it incredibly frustrating this season because I feel like I have so little control over the game outcome because it seems like the quality of my teammates is much more inconsistent than past seasons. About 1/3 of the ADC I get are unable to last hit consistently even when there is no enemy pressure and many don't understand that when they are already behind they need to stop fighting because i can't save them from themselves. Even when i do get a capable ADC and we did well in lane I feel like a lot of games are unwinnable because of how badly other lanes have failed.

In past seasons I've felt like it was possible to come back in most games but this one seems to snowball so heavily that one lane failing hard can't be countered by two that win moderately. In the past I've ranked high gold to low plat but this season I'm struggling to get out of silver after a disastrous 3-7 set of placements put me in silver 4 and while I've climbed a couple divisions I have also, for the first time ever in 7 seasons, fallen back down a division after I got out. I'm feeling like I need to find a duo partner to at least get to gold where, hopefully, player skill will be a little more consistent.

It's a coin toss. Literally.

I've won lane hard with my ADC and gotten steamrolled because every other lane lost. I've lost lane hard and gotten carried by a monster. Every form of joy and heartbreak in-between has also shown itself.

I'm merely a plat player, and I main support. (leo, blitz, morg are my favs)

Support after early game just relies on the rest of the team to win, can't carry the game, and in lower levels I really don't recommend trying to climb with support only.

If I get into lower levels of play and im playing support, i tend to build less supporty and more dmg oriented. (think abyssal scepter and sunfire cape on leona with some offensive masteries, more ap oriented morgana or even triforce blitz.) be more roam oriented especially if you see your adc is weak at their role. Roam and gank around with the jungler or mid laner. Try to ward very religiously and ping / call mias objectives and that way you can carry a team more from a support position.

When you get a kill in your lane, and your adc pushes up and recalls, just leave the adc to do that solo and go roam. You can ward enemy jg, possibly mess around with the enemy jg, gank mid lane, ward for mid lane.. etc. You have to be more impactful overall.

I do feel its one of the best positions to learn the overall game.

Too be honest I switched because I found it boring fast. Atleast for Alistar and blitz I found I really didn't have as much relevance to the team late game which is something I was really hoping to have, I got into jungling and I've stuck with it ever since.

As a long time support main, I find that with autofill adc and bot lane being extremely weak in the meta in general, it is very frustrating to play support. The strength of top half of the map overpowers the bot side too much to the point where your performance has basically no impact once the enemy top side moves bot. Like for example if you guys are destroyong 2v2, your jinx adc has 3 kills and 20 cs lead, leblanc walks down and onehits her, rengar ult down and onehit her, maokai tp down and slowly rekt her. I didn't play this role for the "hope my top mid jungle have pressure so we 5 man dive them"game, I played support for the "dont u dare touch my adc waifu" and 2v2 outplay. MYMU is also a huge failure, watching these mage "support" onehit my BF Zeal ADC with a frost fang in 1v1 just hurst my soul.
