Rift Herald Buff on AP Top Lane Champions

I was in a game last night and I was playing Graves jungle and we had a Malzahar top lane. after we killed the Rift Herald we paused for a second because i thought he would take the buff. however, He declined and told me to take it, this was the first time i had ever had a top laner not want this buff. is it because he is an AP champ and doesn't Auto attack very often so he wont utilize the buff to its full capabilities. or is the buff just that much better on ad champs that its worth it for the jungler to have over an AP top. because if that's the case why not give it a secondary passive that adds damage onto the next ability, maybe 50% of the damage, just like how it works for ranged auto attacks. For example someone like Vladimir whose abilities are on such a low CD that he rarely fits an Auto into every trade, would the buff be better on you jungler then as well? I feel that this is an issue that should be addressed for AP top laners because it puts a very low priority on taking the rift herald buff. In fact, it almost seems like the only reason AP top lane would want to kill the rift herald is so that the enemy top laner doesn't get it. to me that seems like a bad reason to take an objective. Now obviously this doesnt apply for every ap top laner. The buff is very good on champs like Akali Ekko Diana Adding that small amount of extra damage onto your next ability would really help for this buff to be contested by every champion. Because as it is now this buff is just not worth the time and effort for an AP top laner to help take it if he can't even use it to gain an advantage in his lane. Let me know what you guys think.

As a jungle main I take the buff myself in almost all circumstances!

See with the old Buff thats what i did also. The new buff though seems better on top laners especially ones with trinity force. But i take it from time to time if i am fed and or can do more with the buff.

see for me i think this buff it best on someone like Jax or Irelia . it makes them unbeatable in a 1v1 and they take turrets even faster.

It's actually stronger on ap, since it's magic damage and ap usually goes for some magic pen, and for most ap's it's not that hard to get that AA in every now and then, especially since they are less prone to wasteing the proc on a minion as they usually cs with their skills. It mostly was because he didn't need it to win his lane, and in teamfights going for the AA is not always the best idea, especially since the one AA as ranged doesn't do much. It often is much better to give it to the jungler if you are already winning your lane, as it will allow him to impact other lanes with more scarrie ganks, or to shut down the opposing jungler. I often give the buff to my jungler or sometimes midlaner, though if have to admit that i do so more often as ranged than as melee, the 50% reduced damage deters me quite a bit from takeing it if there is anyone else that might have better use of it.

If you are already dominateing your lane, you only want it if you plan on alot splitpushing or if you have the potential to just snowball really hard and kinda dive the opponent 1v1 with that aditional advantage.

I think the damage penalty for ranged should get lowered a bit, but else the buff is fine. It's actually a good sign when giving the buff to the jungler is sometimes the better idea, means you have to put some thought into it.
