Ranked Champ Pool = Mastery

delete if someone's brought this up, but I was just wondering:

how would the community be affected if they changed the champ pool for ranked games to only being able to play champs that you have a (selected minimum) amount of mastery on?

Let's say you can't play a champ in ranked unless you have mastery 4 or higher on them.

That would be horrible, because A: what if someone just picked up a champ, but are really really good at them.

B: don't have mastery on many of their champs they use for that role. Ex. I Mai support but only have mastery 4+ on Malzahar Zilean Shen Veigar Ekko Fiddlesticks Bard TF Evelynn and Lux, this would limit me to only picking Zilean Shen Bard and Lux as support( I don't feel confident enough on fiddle or veigar support, because I used them in the jungle and mid lane. What if I'm autofilled to top? I'm limited to Shen and Ekko, but what if one is banned and the other is picked?

C: all the people would complain because they cant easily rank up smurfs anymore

I would not be a fan of it.

I've played for years before the Champion Mastery system was released. While I may not have played certain champions much recently (due to preferring others at the time or changing my roles), I have enough experience with them that I would still consider them comfort picks.

I would very much prefer not having to get every champion I enjoy playing to Mastery 4 before I can play them in ranked. That would involved hundreds of games simply to have all of them as available options when picking.

It would be especially inconvenient for situational picks.

This has been brought up a lot lately. It would be a bad idea. Some people go to work and come home and play maybe 1-2 ranked games then go to bed to start the cycle all over again. Why force them to get 16 champions (minimum requirement as 10 picks 6 bans) to level 4+? Getting to level 4 with 1-2 games a day takes a while, now think about having to do that 16 times.

Do you realize how long that would take?

How is that any kind of fair at all that you go into champ select and you might be like "Hey I feel like playing hecarim today" or "Hey, hecarim would fit in this team comp really well" but oh wait, you don't have level 4 so you can't play him.

Also having a certain mastery level with a champion DOESN'T necessarily mean that you're suddenly a god with them. All it shows that you have played and are familiar with the champ.

How would you feel if you were mastery 7 with a champ and you went into a ranked game and got dumpstered and fed to someone that was mastery 4? What sense does placing mastery restrictions have when everyone plays the game and champs differently and the mastery level is not exactly an indication of player skill level with said champ.
