The failure of matchmaking, balance and in essence. Riot
Matchmaking is broken, and let us be clear. It is broken for most ranks. Platinum characters are playing silvers and vice versa. No one enjoys the game and Riots push for quicker load times is, from what i believe the heart of the issue. Ranked games should be matched against opponents about the same rank. Yes, yes... one team may be a little better but not stomps matched from the beginning. Coming from a game like Starcraft II where ranked games, even in team games were much better matches compared to here where clear rank differentials are not being taken into account.
The only way to counter these poorly matched teams is to choose an "OP" character. We all know them, Udyr, Yasuo, Fizz and so on. Thus, this leads to the over powered champions being over played and champions that are long neglected will continue to be because there is no incentive to use them for their uniqueness.
Then begin the questions of... Why are there a group of champions that are over powered for extended periods of seasons? Why are there champions that seem to be so well balanced season in and season out? Why are there those champions that are clearly neglected.
Clearly the number of champions makes this a beautiful game. At the same time, the lack of balance whittles down the playable characters considerably. So why is this an ongoing issue? Why does Riot fail to implement balance when it is possible? Why does riot match players who have no reason playing against each other in a ranked game?
The problem is that these questions will probably never be answered. We all hope for a better game, with a better balance and yet a vast selection of heroes.... May the search begin.
P.S. (I would hope that we all wish inside, that Riot will work toward a balanced game, a better game at that.)
