Supports not earning deserved S Rank?

I main support. I may not be diamond or challenger as I don't play often enough (I do believe I can get there if I had the time). I have noticed earning S rank as support is ridiculously difficult. Other players can be doing half the work and earn an S, possibly because they had a high kill count? I'm not sure. Recently, I had a 1/0/11 Nami game with 3cs and got an A. I got a lot of compliments after the game and a lot of "Wow Nami didn't earn an S and I did? Lol." I had a 66k healing Soraka game a few days ago, 2/4/52 and got an A-. Once again in the after game lobby a lot of "You deserved an S it's surprising you didn't get one. Helped carry the game!" I did get a lot of +Teamworks and +Friendly but still... Now that boxes are a reward, and team mates that pull half the work are getting them, it is bothering me. Now I'm not saying my team does nothing, it takes 5 to make a team... but the people I've played with are just as surprised that I don't get an S as I am. Any one else feeling the same way?

Edit: I see a lot of working on warding/sweeping suggestions. I already do sweeping off cooldown, I could work on keeping up more pink wards so I will try that and see if my ranking improves. But.. what about the supports I'm seeing getting S with little to no warding / sweeping? That still gets me.

I think the rating system is amazing, but imperfect. Luckily, to get those nice chests, all you need is anyone on your team to get that S, so if you support your ADC and they get an S, that's all you need. I know that's not a perfect system either, but coupled together with a few people possibly also getting an S when they don't deserve it, I think it all evens out in the end to a pretty fair system - especially considering how complicated it is!

If it's a pre-made I'll get a chest if someone in the pre-made gets an S, but these are random players I'm being queued with :(

I feel it's pretty easy. Maybe you're not showing up for enough teamfights and ganks to get a high kill participation, or aren't warding enough?

Oh no, I hug my team. I follow my ADC around endlessly I'm never off on my own. Like the guy who got carried early in my recent game started doing better because I was keeping him alive, he ended up with the S I guess because of his high kill count that I even got tons of assists off of.

since the system compares you as a support player to other support players with that champion, you probably didn't get an S because of poor warding (how many pinks did you buy?) or maybe low assist count. then again i don't know your games so i'm just guessing.

I ward constantly always finishing item 2045 early and buying item 2043. I could be more consistent with those item 2043 but a friend of mine didn't ward at all and had a high kill count as support and got an S! :(

You have to remember to pink at least 1-2 times, ward alot, sweeping enemy wards counts towards your CS somewhat, so it helps.

And aparently the game expects you to have tons of assists, around 12-20 by end game.

Basicaly, they WANT you to play so try hard that you have to be equal to how a Diamond player acts.

Only reason I got S as Soraka, Morgana and Tahm Kench was because of that.

After buying item 2049 I always switch out item 3361 with item 3341 and use it off cooldown.

That's the normal silver behaviour, you're expected to do even better than that in the Rift sadly.

Even I had to step up my game to earn more S.

If you could compare what you mean that would be helpful. Buying sightstone and switching trinkets at first back is bad? I mean when I begin the game I pick up one vision ward, a pot, and a starting item as well as trinket.

Sightstone and switching trinkets is what you should be doing at any rank on your first back, unless you think money is more important or you can't get there due to a bad start.

Then you're expected to heal, shield, kill participation, vision ward once or twice and much more.

I once did a video as jungle Teemo and got an S- if you think it helps you know what to do?

It's almost definitely poor warding.

In the majority of my games where more than 1 player gets an S rank, the support is one of those players. I think I've seen supports get them MORE than anyone else to be honest. Most likely because low elo supports don't ward nearly enough and it's insanely important for them, so people who ward and do well get it pretty easily.

In any other role, good scores will contribute significantly to getting that S rank. In support though, it's not about the score. It's about everything else you're doing to indirectly help your team. Where are your wards? Where is your map presence? Are you roaming enough, are you invading the enemy jungle, are you saving your allies, etc..

It's so strange, I ward whenever 3/3 falls to 2/3 and so forth. I guess I could work on my pinks, but what about the ones who aren't warding at all and are coming out with S just because they ks'd a few kills? Gah, complicated. And yes my map presence is really up there, never off on my own. Why would I be when I'm a support, no point in supporting myself :P

The map presence point is more as in "are you sitting bot lane babysitting your ADC all game or are you making plays mid and top as well?"

Warding is tough to measure. Maybe you're warding a lot but they're all defensive wards as opposed to gaining good vision in the enemy jungle.

It's hard to know what constitutes an S grade as Riot hasn't released information on it. I'm just saying that I typically see supports get S grades. Maybe damage to champions is overvalued and you're being penalized by playing healing supports.

I've been doing a few games practicing more aggressive warding. I'm floating around an A but I'll keep working on my wards. Thanks for your feedback!

I have over 5 S- or higher on Morg supp alone, a few on bard, and 1 on blitz. I just pink a lot, wipe out a good amount of wards, put out 2-3x as many wards as any team member, and my damage is just shy of whomever had the 4th lowest damage. I don't struggle to get S at all. o.o Support is easy boxes.

Thanks for your input! I need to get back into Morg supp.
