Riot, if you want to buff Mage supports, please buff this instead.
During patch 7.18, Riot decided to buff
by adding 10% CDR on it instead of it having 5%. Was this buff even useful? No, not really. Champions like
etc suffer a common thing. They don't have access to the full 40% CDR build that would be provided by
. A mage support build tends to look like this:
which will give 10% CDR. A normal mage build tends to look like this:
which gives 30% CDR. A mage will also take CDR/lvl runes. So that would round out the support build to 20% CDR and the Mid Mage build to 40% CDR.
So the buffs to
in my opinion were not successful. The original plan was to add an extra 10% CDR to
and
but on the PBE the trend became quite clear. Mages were building
in Mid lane which was not what Riot had envisioned and because of that they gutted the change. Was this change going to do a lot? Yes, it was going to make Mage supports viable again because they would have access to a perfect 40% CDR build.
So how do we fix this? By killing two birds with one stone; By buffing the item known as
. How do we buff this item? Add 10% CDR to it. By giving this item 10% CDR - support mages will have access to a perfect 40% CDR by building this instead:
(Gives 10% CDR now) and the 10% from CDR/lvl runes. This doesn't just help supports but gives a lackluster item like
a much-needed buff for mid lane mages. In a meta revolving tanks and control, it is surprising that
isn't buffed yet.
