Should Irelia be buffed

First time posting on a board in general so go easy on me. I just recently picked up Irelia and I was having fun with her for a few games, but recently whenever I pick her I get crushed in top lane (especially by Wukong players and I was told she's supposed to counter him). In team fights I don't feel I can do to much because the only range i have is from my ult and that feels really weak, and if i get picked out I can't really do anything. Since i'm new to her I build her like the game suggests I do, a fighter so I can tank for my team and do damage. For a balanced team I would build a deadman's plate, boots, a spirits visage for healing, a trinity force, a rage blade, and a steraks. I don't know if it's because i'm new to her or what, but i feel she deserves a buff because all her moves feel weak compared to other champions, for example Yi's true damage feels much stronger, and Xin's heal feels better, I know she gets both of these skills but it still feels weak. The skill I find especially weak is her ult I never know when to use it because its damage is to low to kill and its heal isn't that great to survive I fell. It might be because i'm new to her, but let me know what you think in the poll. Also i play mainly fighter/tanks top not fighter/assassins like Irelia top maybe that class difference makes her much more different to play, if so any tips are welcomed.
