New player curiosity: I don't understand the hype of this game, early experience is awful so far

  • WTF is this early game "experience?" Where are the tutorials going in depth on each class of character and playstyles? Where are the tutorials on item sets and effects? Where are the missions based around getting you to try out new character types or playstyles and rewarding you with basic XP, in-game currency, and even starter characters? So far the only rewards I've received while playing are granted on level up, in which I've gotten my only source of in-game currency plus two characters for free that I just chose at random out of a line-up of three, like who the fuck is Ezreal and Illaoi? There was no "test this character out" option, I was just forced into a screen I cant close where I have no choice but to pick one of three characters listed, where the only information I'm given is their "difficulty level." FFS I've gotten through 8 levels over the course of two days of testing and figuring out what the fuck any of these people do, even resorting to fucking going to outside WIKIs and youtube tutorials on the characters because the actual game doesn't give me any god damn information or direction on what I'm supposed to do next once I get them. 8 whole levels of just switching between Co-op AI matches and this blind pick mode and the only thing that has been inside my "Mission log" that entire fucking time is this 300 blue essence mission that wants me to OPEN UP MY BROWSER AND WATCH OTHER PEOPLE PLAYING THE GAME 3 TIMES.

  • WTF is up with this progression system if you can even call it that? Why do you have to grind to unlock basic loadout options? Literally any other game out there will give you some kind of starting set that will let you at least function and understand what it is you're doing through the beginning of the game until you reach higher levels and pick up better versions of that same thing, but in this game you have no choice but to GRIND FOR YOUR BASIC LOADOUT SETS BY DEFAULT and that grind for whatever fucking reason is slowed by cutting down how much XP you get from games when you lose to players that are higher level than you and have access to the full loadout... WTF is that horseshit?

  • WTF is this game's PvP? So far my experience is that of a lottery where you're either SOMEHOW stuck with straight up AIs on your side that just run right into the middle of two enemies and die over and over, or people that didn't even pay a single bit of attention to the tutorials and do the exact same thing while not buying a single item, and don't even get me started on these RIDICULOUS fucking level arrangements in matchmaking. Like wtf is this five level 1-5 against five level 10 or higher bullshit? How is it that there aren't enough people the same level as me in a game that claims to have millions of players on their servers? I'm looking through loading screens all the time seeing that these guys have much better Spells and Runes than me or my teammates do and it makes the games completely sided in the favor of the higher level players with more options.

  • WTF is with these party match-up games? Who's horrible idea was it to allow an entire team of people to queue up together and go up against entire solo player teams? How the hell is that in anyway fair? Other games will at least limit this kind of unfair garbage to two players, or have another game-mode where if you group up with players the game will at least have the decency to put you up against an equally sized team with similar stats.

You shouldn't ever be forced to grind just to unlock basic shit you NEED in order to play the game how it's supposed to be played, that's just a horrible system that seems like it's focused more on keeping existing from making new accounts and just starting over fresh rather than making a healthy environment for legit new players.

Nicely spoken like a smurf pretending to be a "new player"

Care to explain?

What he means is that legit new players are few and far between due to this game being 'old' now. A 'smurf' is a widely-used term in the competitive gaming scene for an experienced player starting a new account to stomp on newbies for fun.

For example, I started playing about a month ago and I'm level 40+ already. If I started a new account to use my knowledge of the game that comes from playing it really often for a month, it'd be low-grade smurfing since I am still technically new to the game, but I also know a LOT more about the basics than someone who legitimately just started playing yesterday.

He's a smurf, don't bother lol

Don't focus on the troll, focus on the person he replied to.

Anything?

Well yes, Smurfs will get matched with Smurfs. You're a smurf, stop.

Headshot335724 votes

What makes me a smurf? You and this other guy have said that but you don't go into it at all, please explain yourself.

Fine, we can play this game.

Mordekaiser, Veigar, Illaoi, lux, missfortune, and ezreal werent on free rotation last patch, so therefore you own these champions. mordekaiser isnt available as an option early on, so you have 1 1350 champion that you suspiscously your very first game on him, managed 159 CS in a 20 minuete game, which is an average CS of 7.9 per minuete. mind you, YOUR VERY FIRST GAME ON HIM. and practice tool isnt open to you to practice this just yet.

in every single match you have, bots or pvp, you've got an average CS of no less then 7/min, barring the one game you played veigar support.

whats absolutely striking is that you played 3 pvp games:

two of which, you dealt 30k+ damage on veigar, your second time playing him, and 44k damage with karthus, again your very first time.

your build orders for these games are suspiciously OK, which is a problem for a new player who supposedly has no experience playing mobas. all of these games you dont have any sort of duo.

my guess is youre anywhere between high iron - mid silver and are just using this account as an excuse to complain about matchmaking and the level up system.

So basically because I tried out the pvp a whopping 3 times so far, which still had AIs in it btw since you don't seem to read, and because I killed these bots that kept running into me over and over again I'm a player that has already reached a high enough level to play Ranked, which I couldn't give any less care about? And instead of continuing to play Ranked at that higher level where I could have everything I need to comfortably play this game... I'm instead here, at level 8 with nothing unlocked.

I found League on youtube and was curious about it, I don't know anyone personally that plays it, so I don't have anyone to party up with and duo.

Plus I'm just following the items on the recommended pages most of the time, what are you even talking about there?

And also what do the characters I've bought matter? I was browsing the shop and these one looked interesting and cheap, I like big tank characters and Mages so why not?

all champions should be unlocked on the practice tool (hire me i do this shit in my sleep) guides on how this game works are largely ignored because if you explain the thing well here someone else reckons they can explain it better or that you didn't explain the thing despite them not grasping that you are being very specific and pedantic about a thing. like experience, which allegedly master tier players don't know about anymore so what good is the ranked ladder really. excuse me i went off a bit. new player experience yes hmmm yes just play, it'll come to you, hypergamy is your friend.

You dont have to grind for loadouts the game just lets you focus on the game itself before experimenting. The issue with ai and smurfs are horrible yes. The screen thst makes you pick vhamps also has an option to read about them if you desired.

You can't choose Runes until you reach level 10 though? And I still haven't unlocked all of the spells like summoner 14summoner 11 and reading about these characters doesn't really do anything does it? "These characters do this..." ok can I actually see it though please?

They have videos of the abilities if you took a proper look. Yes you dont unlock all the summoner spells straight away, but thats so you can have plenty of time to try the other ones. This shouldn't be an issue for a new player, sounds more like someone higher level wanting everything early to abuse straight away for their climb.

And i was referring before to runes not being customization until level 10. It was decided new players shouldn't be overwhelmed with every option right out of the gate, they should be more concerned about learning fundamental mechanics of the game like how to play the lane safely. Level 10 is not a grind at all, I leveled up a new account just last week from 1 to 17 in just a few days of none serious casual game play.

Headshot335724 votes

How is that possible? Did you buy an XP booster? Every game that isn't 30+ minutes long so far has given me under 150 xp, and the required xp for level up just keeps getting bigger each level.

How many hours per day is casual play for you? Because when I get home from work I usually only have about 4-5 most days, and I'd rather not spend an entire day grinding the same thing over and over just to get 10 levels.

And for the spell thing, why does having more time with the other spells mean anything? They're each completely different effects, like summoner 7 summoner 6 dont have anything in common with summoner 12 summoner 4 or summoner 11 summoner 14 so why are some of them locked behind levels with no progression at all with similar effects?

No exp boost I just played 5 hours a day. I guess it also depends on if you're winning every game. How well you perform also dictates how much xp you get which i think is ok so new players can get more practice before unlocking ranked mode.

As for summoner spells, TP/Flash/Smite/Ignite, are all considered to be higher skill cap spells. Heal and ghost are good for new players so they can learn the value of the other spells and their strengths. If everyone started with ignite then new players would just be randomly getting killed everytime ignite was up and not actually learning anything about how to lane and trade damage properly. Heal allows you to stay in lane longer (and) with the issue of not having smite early it means people will have to share a lane, heal is better when sharing a lane. Ghost allows some counter play rather than just getting flashed on and killed or having people constantly flash away from you when you've never experienced getting a kill before. Going back to the topic of smite, jungling is definitely something i dont reccomend to new players at all and it makes sense for it to be the last spell since there are 4 other roles apart from jungle to try out before you get to it. With smite unlocked it means you will have 2 solo lanes, which now means that with ignite and tp available you don't have to worry about sharing a lane, which makes heal no longer needed (except for adc which shares a lane with supports).

So there you go. It makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

Oh no the game is trash. It WAS good years ago. The rest of us are addicted and have sunk too much $$ to say I wont play it again.

If you are a new player I say RUN AWAY.

TFT could be something but Riot would have to balance it and they are BAD at that.
