The things in league that need to change.
So, its season 6 and everyone is unhappy with where the game is, and after much thought and deliberation I think I have come up with why that is.
Mobility creep.
This is the cause of all of the strife in the game right now.
Mobility is the darndest thing, it is both one of the best defensive tools, as well as one of the best offensive tools, and it is never the wrong option, heck, nearly everyone uses flash, and when they don't it's because of something very synergistic with a specific champions kit, and even then flash can be the right option.
well clearly something as powerful as that should have some sort of damage limiter on it then right? yes, and it did for a long time. zed was considered balanced because his damage is behind a wall that you can avoid through an item, and it gives you time to mash the button before he starts his combo. assassins in general were considered a weak class, something that you could bully and destroy without too much effort, so where did it go wrong? when people realized that they didn't need a whole bunch of damage to be effective when you could just avoid the damage of your enemies. this was the tipping point, and from this point all riot did was try to fix the mobility issue in the only way they could, not actually addressing the problem and beating around the bush until it ate them.
the next thing to take not of is the relationship with mobility and cc, most people seem to have the notion that cc is a good counter to mobility, but it's not, mobility is actually a soft counter to cc. if you get stunned for one second and you have a short dash, you will get to be slightly ahead of the person behind you and can now escape, if you don't have a dash and are stunned for one second, escaping is far more difficult, not to mention that if the cc is dodgeable the mobile target will have an easier time escaping it than the immobile one, and this is something that should be evident even without much research.
but a lot of champions released after nami, which happened right after ren kha zed and diana were all released, had a significant amount of easy to use and direct cc in their kits, notable examples being thresh and liss, both superior cc champions. clearly though, if you remember, this did not end the age of the highly mobile assassin.
this small surge of cc increase and general balance did not pan out, and then riot gave in for a time. the next period included a lot of the most mobile champions in the game, like lucian, kalista, yasuo, rek'sai, and bard.
in fact, it has only been somewhat recently that riot would try again to curb mobility, in the form of the juggernauts. slow champion designed to outperform mobile champions. it failed drastically. and yet, the idea continues in the form of jhin and illinois, as well as the marksmen changes, yet nothing has been done so far that hasn't hurt immobile champions more than mobile ones.
also, a lot of champions have had damage increases that help cc become effective, as once you get pinned you get damaged enough for it to matter, but that just means that if you aren't mobile and you get pinned it's a death sentence.
My proposed change is to use the experimental cc shown in casses possible reworked kit, and add it to a whole shitload of currently underwhelming champions, something specifically geared towards hurting mobility, and then also lowering overall champion damage output.
