I'm not saying full Teambuilder the way it's implemented for normals. But at least joined ranked as your selected position and be locked into it. Once everyone is grouped, then the draft starts but you are still locked into your selected position. Makes light years more sense to do it this way. Guess that's why it isn't implemented.
Your rank is to show your overall skill not just a single lane.
Personally, I think it's too limiting. You will only see 100% meta comps 90% of the time.
Because team leaders can bully people into making hardline meta picks, even though I have seen success with so many non-meta picks in draft (one ranked game my teammate went AD Malzahar jg, we all agreed to report him until he ended the game 21/3)
Also, mirror picks are a flaw in the system and should be avoid at all costs, especially in ranked.
They already talked about implementing this the same way you suggested in the future

I can't wait for this to be made. Its absurd that you have to play so much to get ip for champions, then you don't even get to play that champion in a 40 freaking minute match. There is nothing that takes you out of playing a game then to be pigeon holed into a position you don't want to play.
As to the criticisms for this, they make me lolz and get even more excited for it. "Oh noes! no more non meta picks!" Oh how I will miss the hipsters playing urgot top lane and getting smashed 0-8. Won't we all miss that? Then theres the "get gud at everyfing!" point which is ridiculous because most people can't spend 50 hours at every single champ and position.
The meta is good and if Riot wants to make this game more of a sport they will allow people to specialize in positions.
Riot is looking into a ranked team builder.
Queue by role has a significant problem with number of players queued for support and, to a lesser extent, jungle. Team builder for normals tries to mitigate this by generating really terrible matchups; it's common in team builder games for diamonds and silvers to be playing in the same game. For ranked, that won't fly, you're looking for a maximum of 2 divisions delta of MMR.
This could easily result in 30 minute queues for popular roles, especially at the high and low ends of the player pool.
