Adaptive Items

Just a musing -- and I understand that its a somewhat new concept in league still -- but why is it that we have no adaptive itemization. The games hybrid items have long been built with just separate build paths but with the introduction of adaptive bonuses I feel there is an opportunity to redesign some items with adaptive in mind. A prime candidate could be item 3070 which has had identity issues between its two upgrades of late, so why not make the upgrade itself adaptive and convert into item 3003 for ap builders and item 3004 for ad builders rather than have this hackneyed "YOU CAN'T HAVE BOTH, CUZ!"

Taking that idea further, why not consider something like adaptive ranges for perhaps item 3071 which could have a melee and a ranged version. This is probably too out there for most folks but I think it's at least a good exercise for getting outside the box. I understand there could be some issue if we made everything adaptive because it would be too volatile but I think that if it were used for some full items (tier 4?) it could be fine. On someone like Jayce or Nidalee it could certainly be interesting. Just imagine a Nidalee that was drastically different between forms. She could potentially be an ad cougar and an ap human.

PS. Buff tanks, ad/assassin meta is dumb and I'm maining Rammus for freelo for chirst sake

the issue is would changing those items to be "adaptive" break them?

and it possibly could, honestly I think we are better off leaving adaptive to the runes

and let the items be as they are (with minor tweaks that may be needed from time to time)

Adaptive items would be great honestly. Making literally everything adaptive would be kinda an awesome experiment to see play out.

That way ability power can be ability power again, and then void staff would do something along the lines of "abilities pierce x% of their respective resistance"

Lethality could be a universal stat for physical and magic damage alike. Etc.

I have to say I disagree 100%.

I wish they made NOTHING adaptive.

Let me give an example : Electrocute-> magic damage, sorry ad assassins no more 100-0 at level 3

Secondary tree should determine if you get AP or AD. You wanna have customisation? It comes with a price. No more sorcery secondary with flat ad/att speed bonuses, it's fucked up, they have proven they can't balance it.

Anyway, that's how I see it. Ever since adaptives appeared damage has been too fucking high. You want fleet footwork on viktor, well you get no scaling, sorry but that's how all problems begun.

Oh I forgot, Riot only want game time to be shorter because the attention span of the viewer is 25mins max or they bored. Or that's what they think.

They did address this question when the adaptive stat was introduced. Adding adaptive items would degrade some of the uniqueness in the item pools that AD and AP champions have.

The issue of champions that switch damage types is much more easily solved with scaling – there are examples of champions that have magic damage that scales with AD, and vice versa (Katarina and Akali come to mind). So it doesn't really add anything new on that front; if Riot wanted to do something with that, the tools are already there.
