Some ideas for itemization changes / updates that I feel the game could really use.

Hey all, I just wanted to post some item reworks / changes I thought up of while I had some free times since I thought the items in League of Legends have been pretty stale lately. The main idea was to try to diversify item choices overall. It's not a complete list, but just a couple of things I thought of. Numbers (cost/stats) are experimental, and could be changed if they were to be added into the game (that'd be nice, huh). I also posted this on Reddit, but wanted some exposure to be on these forums as well, since they are the official Riot forums.

Wit's End item 3091

  • Pickaxe (875g) + Recurve Bow (900g) + Null-Magic Mantle (500g) + 525g = (2800g)

  • 30 Attack Damage

  • 40% Attack Speed

  • 30 Magic Resistance

  • UNIQUE Passive: Basic attacks deal 42 bonus magic damage on-hit.

  • UNIQUE Passive: Basic attacks increase your Magic Resistance by 5 for 5 seconds and reduce the target's Magic Resistance by 5 on hit (stacks up to 5 times).

  • Context: I wanted to rework Wit's End into a viable AD item that allowed hybrid damage and strengthened the viability of on-hit builds as well as be a check to magic damage in the mid-game. This way, the build-up isn't as weak as before, and it still has a pretty strong value until way late into the game where other choices are generally better.

Blade of the Ruined King item 3153

  • Bilgewater Cutlass (1400g) + 2x Dagger (900g) + 900g (3200g)

  • 30 Attack Damage

  • 40% Attack Speed

  • 12% Lifesteal (660g)

  • UNIQUE Passive: Basic attacks deal 10 + (3% of the target's maximum health) + (6% of the target's bonus health) in physical damage (60 max vs minions and monsters).

  • UNIQUE Active: Drains target champion, dealing 12% of the target's maximum health in physical damage (min. 100) and healing you for the damage dealt. Additionally, you steal 30% of their movement speed for 3 seconds - 90 second cooldown. (450 range)

  • Context: I wanted to rework Blade of the Ruined King to be more effective at shredding tanks since currently people don't even buy it over The Bloodthirster except on Vayne and Kog'Maw. On live, the lifesteal being low is a part of the reason, and it doesn't offer enough damage since it's current health and has weak AD. With this change, the damage should be more consistent.

Essence Reaver item 3508

  • B.F. Sword (1550g) + Vampiric Scepter (800g) + Faerie Charm (180g) + 670g = 3200g

  • 80 Attack Damage

  • 50% Base Mana Regen

  • 12% Lifesteal

  • 10% Cooldown Reduction

  • UNIQUE Passive: Your basic attacks restore mana equal to between 2% and 8% of the physical damage dealt, based on your missing mana.

  • Context: Small adjustment to Essence Reaver to make it a more attractive choice over The Bloodthirster. Even with these changes, it's hard to say if it will be picked up more often, but the changes will help in siege situations, and the boost in lifesteal should help it out.

Executioner's Calling

  • The Brutalizer (1337g) + Avarice Blade (800g) + 663g (2800g)

  • 40 Attack Damage

  • 20% Critical Strike Chance

  • 10% Cooldown Reduction

  • UNIQUE Passive: +10 Armor Penetration

  • UNIQUE Passive: Dealing physical damage to an enemy champion below 50% health inflicts Grievous Wounds to them for 2 seconds.

  • Context: Currently, AD champions lack a reliable Grievous Wounds option since Ignite can't always be taken. This retools Executioner's Calling to be a useful item at most stages of the game. I priced it relatively high due to the fact that it should be a bit of a niche item and not always purchased, but can be a good item on its own for awhile.

Sunfire Cape item 3068

  • Chain Vest (750g) + Bami's Cinder (1000g) + 850g = 2600g

  • 500 Health

  • 50 Armor

  • UNIQUE Passive - Immolate: Deals 15 + (1.5% of your maximum Health) magic damage per second to nearby enemies (400 range).

  • Context: Sunfire Cape is already currently being slightly adjusted, but it still seems like it would not contend with Randuin's Omen even with the changes. These changes slightly adjust its stats to be more tanky, but also to make its Immolate aura stronger as the game goes on. It also makes the aura feel stronger to the player since it scales with your maximum Health, as well as balances it out for those that rush it early game because it is based on maximum Health. These changes could also be transferred to the new Enchantment: Cinderhulk item.

Youmuu's Ghostblade item 3142

  • The Brutalizer (1337g) + Zeal (1100g) + 563g = 3000g

  • 30 Attack Damage

  • 30% Attack Speed

  • 20% Critical Strike Chance

  • 6% Movement Speed

  • 10% Cooldown Reduction

  • UNIQUE Passive: +20 Armor Penetration

  • UNIQUE Active: Your champion ignores unit collision and gains +20% attack speed and movement speed for 6 seconds. - 60 second cooldown.

  • Context: Since Executioner's Calling got Youmuu's Ghostblade's build path, some adjustments were needed. The item has been reworked into an item for AD Carry-Casters since it provides a decent amount of all the stats they would want, but not an overwhelming amount. The active was changed slightly to fit the theme of being a "ghostblade" more, as well as the stat adjustment. The cost had to be increased since it was loaded with stats, but it could need further tuning.

The Black Cleaver item 3071

  • The Brutalizer (1337g) + Phage (1325g) + 338g = 3000g

  • 300 Health

  • 50 Attack Damage

  • UNIQUE Passive: +10 Armor Penetration

  • UNIQUE Passive - Rage: Basic attacks grant 20 movement speed for 2 seconds on hit. Minion, monster, and champion kills grant 60 movement speed for 2 seconds. The movement speed bonus is halved for ranged champions.

  • UNIQUE Passive - Crush: Dealing physical damage to an enemy champion reduces their armor by 6% for 4 seconds. This effect stacks up to 5 times.

  • Context: I don't know why this wasn't considered as another Phage upgrade choice in the past, but it seems to make sense on paper. The Black Cleaver fell off as an item choice ever since it got nerfed hard after the "League of Black Cleavers," so I wanted to make it more of a viable item choice to buy. Phage goes nicely with the theme as well. Stats and may need to be adjusted in the long run.

Trinity Force / Statikk Shiv / Phantom Dancer

  • item 3078 (Trinity Force) 10% Critical Strike Chance -> 15% Critical Strike Chance

  • item 3087 (Statikk Shiv) 20% Critical Strike Chance -> 25% Critical Strike Chance

  • item 3046 (Phantom Dancer) 50% Attack Speed -> 55% Attack Speed

  • item 3046 (Phantom Dancer) 5% Movement Speed -> 6% Movement Speed

  • Context: Just a small change I feel that should have happened when 5% crit was removed from Infinity Edge; I basically felt that the 5% crit should be moved to all of the second items (Shiv/Triforce/PD/etc.) to balance out I.E. rather than just having it on Phantom Dancer.
