Vi's ultimate poses too much of a threat when people don't know how to play her.

It seems pretty stupid to me how an ultimate like vi's has to be played around in ways like "you have to buy a specific item to or else it's going to hit" that means that even before she uses it her ult has made someone buy an item specifically because of this ability and if your champion doesn't benefit even nearly as much from that item as another one that means her ult is being useful just by existing, why would anyone go that far just to minimize the effect of 1 single ability you ask? well it can't miss...IT CAN'T MISS! it provides great cc and medium damage setting you up for a kill for every champion in the game that can burst someone even if all she does is press r without following up in any way. I know it's possible to play around but why is it so much harder to play around than most ultimates?. If she couldn't just press r when you were at your tower at lvl 6 and kill you then at least you could save up for these counter items before she ganked using her ultimate but unless you're an ad champion that's 3k gold you have to save up for .

Wait, are you seriously complaining that you had to buy Zhonya's Hourglass on Katarina and just didn't? It's a great item on her for durability and stalling to get her resets in any situation; the fact that it can stop Vi ultimate is just a bonus.

Not sure why you rushed Void Staff instead, considering the enemy team had little MR.

Warwick Nautilus Lissandra Malzahar Annie Skarner

Does this argument extend to other champs with ults that force comparable situations?

Only Nautilus is legitimately comparable because he has two CCs that ignores tenacity and whatnot, but even his has more counterplay because his hook won't go over walls, is slower and can be intercepted. I'll address all of them individually, though, and then explain why the Nautilus argument is a bad one.

Warwick Interrupted by allies' CC, Vi's ignores everything except death. Shorter range, and Vi's can be extended by her other skills.

Nautilus Is the CC specialist and sacrifices clear times, damage output and has worse mobility in exchange for that. Vi and Naut ultimates are like the "True Damage," of CC, because it ignores tenacity and pretty much everything else. It makes sense for the CC specialist of LoL to have it, given that he sacrifices for it, and CC is all that he has. Vi has a lot more going for her than just her two "True hard CC," skills.

Lissandra I don't play mid lane, but judging from what I've seen playing as her ally and her enemy, she has clear sacrifices that other mages do not. Her mobility is also much more telegraphed, and she doesn't have two gapclosers on top of it. With Vi, keeping your distance doesn't seem like a viable option often times. With Liss, it seems like it is. Slower mobility and less mobility. Can react much faster is my point here.

Malzahar Can be CCed while ulting to disable it, much like WW, and has no mobility to be spoken for. On top of this, he's squishy as all Hell.

Annie Affected by tenacity because it is a stun, and has no mobility. She's also a one-trick pony. You aren't going to be surprised when she stuns you, she's going to do what every Annie has ever done. Before it's said, Flash is on a very long cooldown and any champion with hard CC could use this. At this rate, you may as well throw Pantheon in the mix for having damage, mobility and CC. Once again, his attack is telegraphed.

Skarner Once again, his attacks are telegraphed. He only has a movespeed boost and can be peeled off. Vi can't be peeled because her approach (Ult) will ignore CC. Skarner cannot do this. Even after he closes the gap and ults you he can be CCed to prevent displacement, making it only a suppress.

Vi is unique in that she has a very fast engage, an engage that ignores CC entirely, the engage has hard CC itself, has massive range, ignores tenacity, has tankiness to make it an actually useful engage and still has damage. Of these, only Nautilus is comparable and his damage is awful. He's the CC specialist. Of course he's good at it. The "If it works for one, it works for all," stance is just illogical.

The fact you're comparing a bruiser to a tank's level of CC proves my point about how stupidly designed it is.

Well, OP's argument was largely about her ult being OP, not her whole kit together (which I would agree is still probably too strong), so I put forth ults not considering kits that comparably force specific purchases. QSS for WW and Malz, tenacity for Annie or Liss, etc.

In laning situations where you're isolated, all the ults I mentioned ARE as deadly as a Vi ult. In late game groups, where you have teammates close by and core items they fall off as you said, but Vi's also becomes more counterable. if you use any mobility move away from Vi's team when she tries to engage you can separate her from her team by a lot, making it really easy to burst her down after she's done, and/or if you have QSS or Zhonias to also cancel the ult when she's up against your team so she does nothing for putting herself in danger.

It could probably use having tenacity apply, as ALL knock ups probably should, but if it lost it's range or CC immunity the ult becomes like, F- shit tier.

Abilities don't exist in a vacuum. It works in some kits and not others because the rest of her kit is what makes it abusive. Imagine Poppy's passive on about any other champion.

Yeah you could buy QSS for the rest, but there are other ways to counterplay it. Vi's is basically stay a distance of 800 (+900) away (And if you get ulted it doesn't matter how far away you move), go invulnerable or kill her.

In a laning situation, any hard CC engage applies. Engaging in lane is very different from teamfighting, and Vi doesn't lane regardless. She has retardedly powerful ganks instead.

That's the problem is using your escape when dealing with Vi. I think people forget how huge 1,700 range is, and how quickly she covers that distance. I know it's a simplified way of looking at it, seeming as she can't just dive in that far away from her team but my point is that if a fight starts, your options are either A. get zoned or B. get ulted. That's a lose-lose. Even with just a range of 800, that's still a pretty large range in the grand scheme.

I don't know how to fix Vi to be honest with you. I can provide a strong case for her being a problem, but identifying a solution is pretty tough business. If I could actually do that, I'd be on a design team, and I'm not. I'd need a tremendous ego to assume I know best. This is just my opinion, not fact. I genuinely believe Vi violates fundamental design philosophies and needs to be reined in, but in reality, I could very well be proven wrong.

but at the same time this is the only thing that this ult is actualy good at, it has no counterplay, besides that it isnt special
