I'm sorry, I don't like her either, but if she's a possible top laner (always) you really should research how to beat or at least how to survive her in lane against for favorable or unfavorable match-ups. Also the second half of your statement is just outright false.
Riven vs Irelia? I've done that. I don't know why, but we both sat and farmed each others' minions till level 5. Sure, we traded combos now and then, but it was the weirdest game I've ever played as Riven. I'm guessing we were both new to our champions.

What's with all the counterpicking remarks? You guys realize counterpicking is not available in every game mode, and might not be an option if you are early in the draft order.
