Party Voice Activity Only?

The idea of creating voice chat within League of Legends is brilliant. It is easily manageable and it works. Wonderful. YET; We have to be a in a premade to use it... The issue is that any pre-made group is probably already using a different third party program. Can the players be expecting an update to voice chat not requiring to be in a party?

2 things.

  1. i was never on board with voice chat because honestly. Fuck voice chat in league. Its ALWAYS cancer. Ive joined random Discords before and its ALWAYS been awful. Ive joined probably 10-11 random discords for league matches and Its always been cancer.

  2. They have a hot mic option. that needs to go IMMEDIATELY. Push to talk ONLY. and they need a mute voice chat option next to the mute ping option. This needs to happen before they open it up to everyone.

Why would you want PTT in a game where you are actively trying to accomplish something? I have little time to press a talk button aside from the keys I'm already hitting when in game so I like having Active Voice on.

Ive been playing games with voice chat for years. Its the universally accepted rule in those games that you use PTT. In a discord you are signing up for open mic, but in game VOIP is PTT. if you dont use PTT then you are usually referred to as a scumbag hot mic user and immediately muted.

R6 Siege, CS GO, Overwatch, Planetside 2, Pubg, Fortnite, the list goes on. talk to anyone who has put any serious time into those games and they will tell you the same thing.

Using Open mic for in game VOIP is rude. Its annoying, and no one likes it.

also wanna know why people dont like hot mic users?

  1. people who breathe into their mics. That's annoying af

  2. people with background noise. That's annoying af

  3. people who mumble to themselves when playing. Thats annoying af

  4. people who basically talk play by play of what they are doing. thats annoying af.

Everyone is guilty of at least 1 of these. But Most people have the common decency to use PTT.

VOIP? What?

I've used voice in games for years as well but like I said there's a thing called having to react to the things around you. If I'm trying to talk to a team I'm not gonna have the time to hit an extra key as I'm usually also going to have to be paying close attention to what is going on (especially if it's league, already have enough keys to have memorized). I use skype/discord when playing a lot of them such as League, SMITE, Overwatch and always used an open mic. On top of that, I don't generally play games with coms with RANDOMS, so of course, that side isn't liked. If there is some kind of com in the game I opt-out.

Riot also said if they do extend it to non-premades it would be an Opt in option as in you don't have to use it.

Also there IS a push to talk feature that is under the options.

It just made me curious that they added premade voice. Which i would assume that they could potentially head into the direction of non premade voice. If it were to happen, I feel they would need to have stricter rules about it. The only issue is that by including non premade voice; it would only benefit a small margin of players.

Voip is Voice over IP

Its the technical term for in game voice chat..... its also way easier to say.

and part 2 of this is that you said you opt out of Voice chat with randoms. So you dont run into this issue. If you arent going to use it with randoms then just use discord. And joining a discord is essentially signing an agreement that you are ok with hot mic.

When using an in game voice chat People are not consenting you hearing your background noise. If this system is going to be implemented to be able to used team wide instead of just party wide, then PTT needs to be forced.

also trying to hit other buttons. I was a pilot in Planetside 2. So i would be in the middle of a dogfight using both my hands fully. still could slightly move my thumb to press M4 and start talking.

I have played lots of CSGO, PUBG and i understand your argument completely. If they were to add it in, What do you think a correct approach would be? Enforce Stricter Rules? Maybe, If someone is getting negative reports from teammates and this is happening over " x " number off consecutive games; should that player get penalized? I am curious to hear your opinion

Honestly. Heres what i think.

Remove the Hot mic option. Force PTT. Have an easy Mute voice option.

Voice chat is usually much less toxic than text chat. so it shouldnt be as much of an issue. but if someone is being repeatedly reported for abusive voice chat then yea. They should have they speaking privileges temporarily disabled. And then follow the same route as normal bans for chat reasons.
