Ranked season 9 (position rank)

What's New in Ranked 2019

After reading the article about ranked season 9, I was at first excited for the changes they were making until I read about the position placements. I have played league since the end of season 3, and there have been some changes that liked, and disliked but, I see more negatives than positives for this change. I main ADC, and if you check my account (The Forever Hunt) you will see that I have sunk a lot of time into Vayne, but when it comes to ranked I don't one trick a single champion or role. I think based off the article (which I linked above) this change doesn't do anything positive to improve the game or the already toxic community. While I believe you should be allowed to one trick I just think it isn't the right thing to do in a team game, and I feel this will just increase the toxicity of the game when people don't get their main roles. I hope Riot reconsiders the choice of this change, as to me it doesn't any sense. I am willing to listen to the other side of the argument, or from Riot, and will be checking back on this post when I get the chance.

I'm going to put a poll on whether this is a good change or not.

This will decrease toxicity for people with offroles. If someone gets offrole adc, they lose less LP in their main role and are playing in a lower rank than they normally would. Less feeding and less flaming consequently.

I personally don't like the change because I play all roles except jungle, and since I can't q fill because i'll get jg too often, and as a result I won't climb very fast.

That is a point I have not considered, and worth mentioning.

Also, if you lose repeatedly on an off role, it'll link more and more to your main dragging it down. If you swap positions with others in game more often than is reasonable, it also links more and more. Basically, excessive intentional abuse of the system will link you more and more to your main (highest) rank, meaning after a while you'll essentially have similar to the single rank you have now, as playing any role will highly impact your main role.

All in all your concerns are understandable, but I actually have the opposite concerns due to my vast gap in skill levels based on positon. I'm worried that I'm so bad with some that it'll think I'm abusing off roles and it'll drag my main role down. For this reason, I don't see a good reason, or any incentive to do anything but 1-2role as I always have. Now that's fine and all I guess, but I genuinely was looking forward to trying other roles before I learned of this.

People don't care as much in their off roles to win, It doesn't affect them as much so its generally worse to have someone playing willy nilly because they will only lose 3 lp as apposed to the full amount on a fill.

It is a strict upgrade as far as getting better games. It doesn't fix toxicity but honestly no matchmaking system will fix that.

The elo model which league uses simply cannot handle expressing a player's skill level on 5 different roles with one numerical value in the long run. Since role queue was adopted, we saw a ton of problems especially with autofill that cannot be fixed without separating matchmaking based off of roles.

I think it's terrible, such a convoluted, and annoying system just to fix one little problem. positive: autofill won't feel as bad (Then again you won't even care if you win Autofill). negative: you don't have a main rank, you have to main a role, you can't play 4 roles, people wll find a way to abuse it. More placements.

"...you won't even care if you win autofill."

You should care because the LP change splashes to your other positions. So in general, I think people will care. Plus, I think that splitting the queue into 5 positions also gives you more ways to increase your overall rank.

"you don't have a main rank"

You do have a main rank, and it's also the best of the 5. If you excel in different positions on the map, it presents the best one as your main rank on your profile page.

Yeah, wow those +/- 3 splashes. Turns out I don't care actually. Do you? That 3 lp? I dodge for as much once a day.

More balanced auto fill matches + being able to see how you perform in different roles = good change
