Wukong has an identity crisis

Hi all,

I have around 1000 Wukong games under my belt, and am currently floating around low diamond. With the new changes to jungle along with his nerf in Season 4, Wukong is now borderline unplayable at high ELO in either the jungle or top lane. At top, he gets decimated by most champs due to his lower base health and sub-par damage, and in jungle (where I main him) It is a huge challenge to maintain level with the rest of the team and gank due to the removal of 3 health pots at start and his overall squishyness. I have three proposed changes, and am curious to hear feedback.

  1. Make his base stats (namely health) closer to Warwick. Currently, Wu starts out with 578 health and scales at +85 per level. Warwick starts out at 592, and scales at +98 per level.

  2. On W, remove the damage dealt by the clone and instead add a +10% movement speed bonus when W is activated.

  3. The nerf of his Q was a big blow to Wu, but instead of increasing damage, how about increasing the range bonus of crushing blow to 175? (Making the total range 350)

While I acknowledge what you're saying as true. That isn't what an identity crisis is.

Also, his passive doesn't encourage him to build tank, for anyone wondering or saying that. It encourages a little HP to get more out of it, but if you aren't building some kind of HP on a melee champion what the fuck are you doing?

His passive actually lets you be deceptively tanky while building heavy damage. Wukong is not a tank, Wukong is a pseudo-assassin. There isn't an identity crisis as much as there is a meta that gives him a hard time.

First: Why are you telling me this?

Second: then half of the jungling tanks are the same.

Back in the days I played wukong top alot i also thought about buffing him somehow.

like : damaging his W clone will heal wukong for a certain amount- this will discourage people to just attack wukong when he tries to juke them or will reward him if he manages to pull a good timed clone

Or adding a mini stun (0.5) to his q to help him stick to targets and to trade in lane

Honestly wukong is a very powerful champion that can carry games by himself the combination with his Aoe hard cc+ Damage on his ult, this makes him a very dangerous champion to buff. but i wouldn't mind a slight buff to him if its justified.

I like the speed buff idea. Plus, with the damage removal, it might allow even the smalest buff to his other spells damage.

sub-par damage ( ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)

Might I recommend not buying Mobis and spending the extra 200 gold for Swifties? Just because you seem the buy Mobis to get some movespeed out early, but they suck ass as soon as everyone else gets +2 boots if you don't enchant them with Alacrity. People can walk out of your ult.

They seriously can't straight up buff this champion though, he isn't actually bad. The only thing they could do without it being overbearing is revert the Q nerf back to 30% at level 1, which doesn't do THAT much because people don't generally have much armor or AD early on so it's a small buff, and/or revert the R nerf because it's just 10% AD, or buff W to have more outplay potential either through movespeed or another second of stealth.

But Wukong is a pretty good champion, he just isn't very meta, so I very much doubt that they want to do anything to him. A slight buff could backfire and make them knee-jerk gut him.

The only thing i truly think would be acceptable is either making W fear minions/creeps when it spins(to help jungling, which he struggles at early because no pots) or making W give movespeed while stealthed or an extra second of stealth. Any kind of damage stuff I don't think is going to happen.

Wu is a hard case because he is one of the best team fight champions in the game. I agree his laning is bad. Just really bad. He can do fine vs some match-ups like akali, but against bruisers he's terrible. Jungle is slow and he's weak as fuck the first couple rotations. He doesn't need any major changes though, so I would agree with the change to W and adding some base health would help him out in both the lane and jungle.

wukong simply scales too hard into the late game you can't buff him

i can lose lane against darius or renekton badly but simply keep my farm up and then wreck everything in teamfight while darius yells at his team that he won lane but can't do much in teamfights. the trick is quite simple simply don't lose too hard and i think its a smart idea to start of with crystaline flask. i always start of as dorans as the silver player that i am and that nets you a loss you cannot cope with.

It's called "CC". When I played Wukong Top, if I was behind (as I often was due to being a support main with no lane skills) I'd just build a Black Cleaver, then ult as many targets as I could to get BC's passive stacked up, then let the ADC do the serious damage.

I think that Wukong's fallback pattern is actually rather nice. Sure, he may be underfed and deal no damage, but he's still got a nice CC ult and a focus-break cloak for not dying.

Well there you go.

I don't watch his stream or his channel much, the last time I saw he was Master. Good for him.

Removing clone damage would be a giant nerf. Buffing his base stats to Warwick level is not a good thing either.

Please buff decoy a short stun 0.30 second, it would be great.

To be honest I think Wukong is fine the way he is. Sure he's weak early but once you get a couple of items under your belt you're pretty much golden. I main him and I'd say the trick to him is to NOT directly trade. Hit and run tactics are aggravatingly effective against any of his counters. For example people will pick Darius to counter his ass damn near every time, what with the higher base damage, health, and bleed. However, once you hit level 3 and you have all your abilities, clever use of bushes and decoy allow you to wreak havoc on your enemy. Same goes for Riven, Quinn, Jax, Nasus, Renekton, you name it. The only one Wukong really has trouble with up top is Teemo. Teemo's poison decimates you early since you have so little base health, and the blind negates Wukong's Q and autos. Idk, he seems fine to me, then again I don't use him in the jungle, like ever. So maybe having the damge replaced with either a short fear or ms buff would help him out in that role. Besides, who the fuck builds AP on Wukong? The damage on his W has always been kinda worthless.

I do agree that there are some kinks with Wukong's overall design, but I don't comment on the ground that I barely played him (how often have you seen him in free week rotation? And I'm not about to buy a champion I barely have experience with)

But...what is his identity crisis you refer? You mean the fact that he has a Passive that implies he wants to be tanky, but parts of his kit implies he should be a sneaky guerilla fighter?
