How exactly does the grading system work??

awful game··1 votes·616 views

I just played this game with draven and i went 42/10/25 and i got an A+, this happens to me everyday. I go like 30/6 and its A-?? is it my farm or wards or what? Once you hit full build theres no reason to get cs anymore, so idk why i need more than 221 cs. Im just confused about any serious issues that might be in the grading system, thank you. http://imgur.com/a/pgHn3 - DMG Graphs (120,000 dmg) http://imgur.com/a/zNrpV - After Game Scoreboard

Length of game definitely matters.

But yes, in my experience CS is the most important factor in how Riot grades you.

You get graded against everyone else around your elo playing that champion in that role.

And it is your farm, because you're not on par with the other dravens you're getting graded against

http://imgur.com/a/d6jdh what about this game? this is a snip of this 42/10 game i was talking about below, and the game above it is an S- game. I had the same farm, same deaths, same assists, but the 42 game had 15 more kills and the lower kill 27 game got S-? The top game was ranked, does that matter? also the 27 kill was 35 mins instead of 50 ish, which matters right?

Yes, CS/Game length is probably the most important factor

The general baseline for good CSing is 10/minute, though it's not quite achievable for most people you generally want to aim for about 7-8/minute

221 farm in a 30+ minute game isn't good no matter how many kills you have

Not just around your elo, everyone in your region playing that champion in that role, from level 1 first time league players to top tier challengers.

Both of those groups are relatively small though, so don't actually impact the requirements much, and since everyone is generally playing against people of comparable elo, low elo players can still manage good grades sometimes. Riot mentioned how they expected they'd need to sort it by elo, but in the end they found it wasn't necessary, and so MMR is not a factor.

I have heard a good mix of both so I wasn't exactly sure.

Do you still happen to have a link to that talk with Riot? I'd like to see it.

Various other tidbits in that thread. There was also a podcast they did around that time with a few more nuggets of info surrounding the grading system (e.g. S+ requires top 2% of performances), but I don't know how to easily find a link for that.

Awe man, not what I was hoping for, but thank you anyway.

Riot's Mastery Grading system works like this: Your rating gets compared to other people of your Region who play the same Champion in the same Role. The higher you score compared to those other players the better your Grade will be.

Everything else about the system is hidden so we have no further information on it. So nobody really knows how to get a high rating. Although there is one fact we do know, winning a game is not required to get a high rating, you can still get S ranks when you lose.

It is also very unlikely (pretty much certain) that kda and cs do not affect the rating in any direct way. That's not to say that getting good kda and cs isn't helpful, but only indirectly so. Not getting an S isn't because your cs is too low, or because you didn't ward enough, or any other such nonsense. You should still focus on getting them, but only because that makes you better at the game, not for your score.

There's a lot of guesswork and ideas on the boards about this system and how it works so never just believe people (myself included) when they tell you what to do to get a higher grade. I've seen a good player with great scores get no higher then a A+, I've seen a poor player get a lucky S, I've seen a good player with really poor kda get a S when losing, I've seen a player get a S because his enemies where dumb. I've yet to find any true pattern that I can prove.

The best you can do is just not worry about the system. We simply don't know how it works yet. Just improve yourself, get better at the game, the better you are the easier it will be to getting a higher grade. Plus, its always possible there's an element of luck to it.

So, good luck.

exactly

Riot has not told us the exact workings of the system and have even said they don't want players to know exactly how the system works as players are supposed to play to win and not just to increase their grade.

Yes, their system is quite retarded: As a jungler, I like to give as much cs as possible to laners, and the system consider that this is a lack of skill, which does not make sense. Another example is as you said: you're full build, you give cs to other players, the system consider it is a lack of skill.

But, who cares? Personally, I just want to win. You want an S, play Draven support, you will get it (you don't need CS then, and you're graded compared to other Draven sup, and they aren't many) OR, focus on heavy farm, even if it means taking the farm of your teammates.

Same in ARAM: you give the CS to the ADC's so they can regen? The system consider it is a lack of skill.
