10 Thresh Tips From A 500,000 Mastery (Only Silver) Thresh Main

Well, I just hit 500,000 Thresh mastery and I thought I would try and help some other Thresh mains (or people that are considering maining support) that might have less experience. So with that, let's get to it...

http://www.lolking.net/summoner/na/44965543#champ-mastery

  1. (The most important...) Don't Main Support: If you are Bronze/Silver and wondering what role to main, please reconsider becoming a support main. Unless you enjoy pain, abusive relationships and being broke as fuck, find a new main. If you're locked in and dedicated to being a support main, welcome to the club. We'll probably be stuck in the low ELO for a while so I'll see you around.

  2. supportlivesmatterbuttheymatterlessthanadclives: So you and Ezreal are both at 100 hp and all of a sudden Caitlyn decides to ult him. Go ahead and tank the Ace in the Hole. Yes, your KDA will be worse. No, he probably won't say thank you. Your death means less (#justsupportthings) and odds are you're worth less gold.

  3. Know Your Role: Okay, Thresh. You have two jobs. A. Don't let your ADC get killed. B. Make sure the enemy carry does get killed. I have nothing else to say...

  4. Let's Talk Support Items: I swear if I ever see you playing Thresh with one of these things... item 3303 I will find a way to get into your games and post your summoner 4 cooldown in all chat. Don't test me... Our job is to keep certain people alive, and make sure other people die. Get a item 3302 or a item 3301. Both are acceptable... The Coin is easier to use, but Relic makes a larger impact in higher ELO games.

  5. Don't. Freak. Out.: You know that guy that's supposed to carry? The guy that's got carry in his job description? (Attack Damage Carry = ADC) Well he's 0/7/3 right now... Keep your cool and do your best to help the people that aren't feeding more than McDonalds.

  6. Tower Aggro: Take tower aggro for your ADC. If you are getting ready to dive an enemy, (and your ADC understands the concept of a tower dive) ping that shit and get in there. Attack first and then hold aggro while you sit at the edge of tower range. Tank as many shots as you can then get your ass out. If Jinx hasn't killed that weak Vayne yet, then she messed up, not you. "Lata bitch." - Tyler1

  7. WARDS WIN GAMES: You start the game with a support item, a item 3340, and 3 item 2010. After that, the first thing you should be buying is a item 2049. "Knowing is half the battle."

  8. Don't Look When You Hook: This is not advice for one night stands. If you throw the hook exactly where you're looking, you're making things wayyyy too easy for that enemy ADC. A trick called "No Looking" basically means your character is facing a different direction then your hook is traveling. It will throw them off I promise.

  9. The Flash Lantern: There is a brief moment when whoever grabbed your lantern is traveling in your direction. During this time you can flash and bring an ally with you. My favorite is lanterning you jungler and then flashing on top of the enemy ADC. You essentially get two flashes for the cost of one.

  10. Flay and Pray: Well... there are multiple champions that are trying to jump onto your ADC. That Flay you got there can be used to interrupt most gap closing abilities. Jarvan can't get to his flag if you flay him away from it. Zac can't land on your partner if he doesn't make it to his destination... These moments are brief, but highly rewarding if you manage to pull it off.

Oh, the anguish we shall inflict...

Sincerely, That Thresh Tho

See, I'm thinking a support main "can" work if you reconsider what one does a bit. I've had to play it quite a bit in bronze ranked (especially in flex where I've gone fill only), and I want to say that I've won a higher percentage of my games playing that role than others (mostly on sona) using a few tricks.

For starters, I ignore the idea of ks'ing or "stealing things" off teammates. I'll constantly be trying to nab kills/objectives (often taking ignite/tlords and running "mostly" AP builds), with the idea to try and turn myself into a monster and let my team work off of that. Second, I try to use my resources carefully as to get the most value (like using 1 ward to scout bot river+drag, or literally never using my flash unless I'm about to die). While these two things may not work all the time (certain teams just have that "refuse to win" mentality), it does make things way easier and way less monotonous.
