What happened to spectating Diamond games on the home page?

I use to always pull up league games while eating dinner or working out, to learn and see different play styles at the highest lvl. When are you going to bring those back?

+1, I remember watching a champion I wanted to learn more about or even watching someone on my main to get an idea of the "current" right builds and play style

As a multi season member of Diamond Pride, I was often added/contacted by people that saw me playing during those matches. It "Felt" like a nice reward for being a member of Diamond Pride, to be acknowledged by the community as a spectacularly sexy player. Like "After so long I'm finally good enough where I am being featured on the front page" kind of thing.

Anyway I agree, bring back spectator matches of Diamond Pride members. Did I mention Diamond Pride yet? it is so much more lovely than Bronze Chaos.

Riot would rather have viewers go to platforms like Twitch and YouTube that provide free advertisement for the game.

First off, I agree with the OP, it was a nice feature.

Second, as an alternative, I think you can still look at the challenger ladder and spectate games those players are in from the ladder screen.

Yep! Still works. But only in legacy client right now. In the beta client, the eyeball symbols to say "you can spectate this game" aren't there, and even if you right click someone you know is in a game, the Spectate Game option is greyed out. It's the sole reason I still launch Legacy every time.

Of course, it's nowhere near as good as the old featured games section was. You have no idea what champions are being played, and you're just as likely to get in 30 seconds before the game ends as you are to get in at 1:30.

I gave up on crossing my fingers a while ago... It started out as like 3/4 of the main splash screen, then went down to 1/8, then disappeared for a while, and then reappeared as 1/8th but hidden behind a toggle advertisement. It felt like Riot was trying to get rid of it in favor of YouTube/Twitch as others have mentioned. And my heart isn't strong enough to keep hoping.

The reason was waste of resources. Pretty much not enough people cared about it so they removed it, same reason they removed dominion outside of RGMs.

why would i do that when i can spectate a match in progress and have FULL control of the camera? also what if i don't have any diamond friends? or if my diamond friends aren't playing at the moment? [slayer-jinx-unamused]

did you know that you can go through third party services to just watch league games of diamond players or whatever? You can watch without even having league open sortof. Or you used to be able to.

Just gotta put a really long link into the windows "run" box.

Shouldn't have to use a third party. Should just be as easy as clicking spectate on the in-game client.

Well not all diamond players want random people filling up their friendlist, this includes myself. Other diamonds already have full friendslists... this also includes myself.

Well i got diamond 1 on my own and i still have a full friendlist and i get added by a lot of people. I think i currently have 7 pending requests that i havnt bothered to check out yet. The 2 things you mentioned arent necessarily connected, but i get what you mean.

same, when your youtube subscription box is empty and you have a bowl of ramen in your hands. it was nice to watch high lvl spectates to learn the game more. i actually felt like i was learning stuff as i watched like lane pressure and warding spots. but now i have to go watch some clickbait stream highlight where all you see is them doing something derpy like full attack speed chogath support or something. i know theres memes saying that diamond players are trash, but for us low/average elo players. it helps us improve.

I miss this too!!!! I love twitch and all and am subbed to a few people but the high elo spectating allowed me to look for a specific champ being played, or team comps that looked bizarre.

Riot has stated that they want the new client launched (not just in beta) with its core before adding more features (and yes, i get that spectating used to be available easily before they reskinned the old client)

Remember when they did random diamond highlight plays? I can only remember a Leblanc outplaying a WW from some diamond korean player and a Renenkton 1v5 Pentakill at dragon... Diamond isn't the highest level. In fact I would say from my experience Diamond is the true lowest level of play. Basically everything below D5 is a shitfest and shouldn't be considered. If you want to actually learn the game you should be spectating D1 or above.
