What players fail to realize is, what you see mostly perception. You may find supports annoying, but...
-They underdamage everyone in the game unless they are a mage out of their cast.
-Heals are unreliable, because to be effective, champions have to take a lot of damage for them to be consistently of use (normally healers are just topping off champs; maybe 5-6k a game actually goes toward a fight that changes an outcome)
-Being a Heal or Shield bot does not make it an effective champ. The scope of independent play around champs who exclusively do this rely on TEAMS to make their kit reliable. (For example, a support who has an adc that misses CS levels slower, weaker, and gets less XP per minion that an adc misses. If your adc gets 4 of 12 cs, you're screwed, because the opponent laners are going to be ahead 1 1/2 levels)
-Gold incomes for a support have dropped about 2-4k Since January. It's rare to even be able to effectively buy items unless your adc is the winner, or if YOU are carrying.
-Most LCS toppers are not Supports.
(Support envy imo comes from adcs who believe they should have a free reign to duel the other adc)
In Truth, all roles are causes of game decisions.
A poor top performance results in entire lanes lost in the blink of an eye or an unleashed fed
killing everyone.
A poor mid performance results in 2v4 bottom lanes, and high pressure lane pushes that box the defending team in a corner where they can't farm or leave their base for objectives like drakes.
A poor jungle performance results in loss of objectives, idling of counterpicked laners, and the oppression of good laners by good junglers.
A poor adc results in an underperforming support, and a potential powerhouse killer for the other team.
