MMR: The Most Stupid Thing Ever

This is ridiculous. I'm leveling a smurf, SH0RYUKEN (0 is zero), and my main is this. I'm silver 2 i think on this account. My smurf is level 25. I was playing with another friend who is level 28.

**WE GOT PAIRED AGAINST A DIAMOND 5 AND A PLAT 5 DUO BOT, AND A PLAT 2 JUNGLER. **

This is ridiculous. I'm not even that good, neither is he. I don't even have the runes to compete against this. I guess why the MMR saw this as "even" was because they had a level 10 on their team.

How on earth is that fair? I can deal with getting my ass raped because sometimes, it happens. Sometimes, I suck. Sometimes I die, sometimes a lot. But how the FCK am i supposed to compete against people who have almost 2k games under their belt and are superiorly ranked? We didnt even have anyone great on our team besides a low gold and silver... So stupid. This MMR is just fcking retarded.

Like how do you even learn from being put in a situation like that?

I understand maybe a couple games I get destroyed but its been pretty consistently stupid.

/sigh

Normal MMR is entirely separate from ranked. You probably skyrocketed early in normal MMR on the smurf, while a lot of plat+ players haven't played normals regularly in a long time, so their normal MMR is in no way indicative of their actual current skill level.

You know what I find not so funny? I know it's not your intention, and this is a problem with any type of smurf account...but take a min and think.

How does that player who is a legit level 15 with maybe 30 games, half against AI bots, feel about facing a player with 300+ games in silver ranked on a smurf account?

By creating a smurf you diliberatly circumvent the MMR system and create for other players the same issue you are complaning about. It's a complicated problem because many of us want to play with friends who are beginners, and smurfing seems like a good idea, but really there is no good system for this yet. Riot is limited by the tools they have in place to match players of drastically different skill levels and experience levels and it's not an easy problem to fix when so many high level players make new accounts all the time and remove their player history from the equation. Now it just sees you winning over and over against newer players and rapidly moves you up to try and find where you start losing. That's how it works. You have to go through these huge swings of up and down each getting tighter and smaller until you sorta balance out. That takes hundreds and thousands of games...which have you at silver in your main. The new account is just trying to collect data to see where you fit. It's not trying to be evil, or broken, you simply break the system when you start a new account with lots of experience and no history to go with it.

Some players do it on purpose to get kicks out if stomping new players. I get the feeling that's not your intent, but it is an unfortunate side effect. I'm sure you have had your moments in the recent history where you have demolished a team of newbies. I'd like to say suck it up and take your lumps, but I see your point too. I recently gave up my smurf account because I have mixed feelings about how it creates unfair environment for players. I'm not sure what the solution is, but I hope it gets some attention at some point.

Right now it's rough being a new player in mobas.

And how would you 'fix' it? What's' your idea? Hmm let's see.

  1. use your RANKED MMR in normals? Ok that's great but then what happens when someone doesn't have a ranked MMR? So everyone must then use the same MMR system. So now what? What happens if you get a MMR of a diamond 1 but only play normals, then play ranked? Do you get put into plat 1 by going 5-5 in provisional? What happens if you are silver 3, so your mmr is silver 3, you play normals and win a bunch so your MMR goes up? A lot? Do you now enter ranked since your MMR went up, and are now playing with diamonds and getting 40 LP a game as a silver 3?

  2. Oh wait, you say, you say "well, don't have your MMR change! Oh cool, so now you can win or lose a normal, keep the same MMR and keep getting the exact same skill opponents every game, because your MMR is now 'fixed' and unmoving?

Sorry but it doesn't work. Riot's system is the only system possible. Ranked MMR being SEPARATE From normal MMR.
And nothing more So, GET GOOD.
