Should Yasuo's Wind Wall block Taliyah's rock wall

Bravoth··6 votes·3,446 views

According to leagues description of yasuo's wind wall it "Creates a moving wall that blocks enemy projectiles" with the keyword being projectiles the definition of a projectile is an object propelled through the air. According to Taliyah's ult description it "creates a wall" and from the animation it just elevates part of the ground like with her seismic shove(w) at no point is the rock/ground that taliyah uses for either ability disconnected from the earth along with that since seismic shove is not blocked by the wind wall neither should Taliyah's rock wall since it follows the same principle but just on a larger scale. So I would prefer if you do one of three things listed from easiest to hardest 1) change the description of weaver's wall or wind wall, 2) make yasuo's wall block seismic shove or 3) do not let wind wall stop weaver's wall. Now if I am wrong someone please tell me but I think it's reasonable to ask for riot to either be consistent in its description, treatment or animation of abilities and what I mean by that last one is when the animation for one ability that is not blocked is part of the ground erupts forward and the animation for an ability on the same champ that is blocked though is part of the ground erupts forward then the next part closest to it erupts forward rinse and repeat then since one is just the other on a larger scale it shouldn't be blocked since fundamentally it is still the same animation.

Wait...DOES it? Her wiki page doesn't mention the interaction and I find it hard to believe that it does. If it IS blocked then its bullshit and should definitely not be a thing. EDIT just watched a video of it. That's disgusting, especially given her E (unraveled earth) ISNT blocked by it.

SettDownShutUp1 votes

Holy hell that looks weird. It's HER riding into the wall, that... She's not a projectile!

Bravoth1 votes

I am fine with her being thrown off since anything hitting her knocks her off I just don't like the fact that his wall blocks her wall even though it's only supposed to block projectiles.

RookPusher5 votes

His wind wall shouldn't block half the crap it does already. Why that thing isn't someone's ult I'll never understand.

"Hi, yeah...uh...so like half of your cc, nukes, and ults are rendered useless every 16 seconds. Sorry"

Bravoth4 votes

I think you forgot to account for 40-45% CDR which should make it closer to like 10 seconds

Ruin Lance2 votes

yeah man, because people DEFINITELY build cdr on yasuo. (hint: he doesn't build any)

also he maxes wind wall last so his wind wall is on a 26 second cooldown for most of the game lol

Bravoth1 votes

Essence reaver gives 20% cooldown reduction with critical chance along with 70 atk damage and 20% critical strike chance throw in that mastery for 5% cooldown reduction and those ionian boots and you easily have 35% cdr still focusing on building critical strike making it were if he want's he can easily get some cdr and while yes he maxes it last so it is 26 seconds for most of the game league claims it doesn't balance champs based on there average use but on how strong they are in their best case scenario. So while your point is valid that it is unlikely to happen the fact of the matter is that wind wall has the capability to block a large amount of ranged abilities and ultimates for 4 seconds while only being on a 10-12 second cooldown thanks to cdr. Now while that might rarely happen can you really say it is fair/healthy to be able to instantly block that many things for 4 seconds while having a measily 10-12 second cooldown but don't mistake me I am not saying it's unbalanced since it is a fair ability in the normal situation because it has counterplay just that considering that wind wall's only description is "creates a wall that blocks projectiles" but it still blocks a spell who's only description is "creates impassible terrain" means that riot should make it clear what it does and does not consider a projectile because right now the only way to tell with some abilities is by using them.

Ruin Lance2 votes

essence reaver is a garbage item on him, intelligence is also unrealistic because yasuo always takes fervor/warlord's. ionian boots also sucks. your point is invalid.

if a yasuo is fucking up his build path that much then yes i do think it's fair to have a low cooldown wind wall.

yes he can block abilities, but what he can't block is a melee diver or tank cc'ing him and having the enemy team one shot him.

to me it sounds like you just want something to complain about for literally no good reason. yasuo is a perfectly healthy and balanced champion whether you like it or not.

Bravoth1 votes

First why is essence reaver a garbage item on him it gives him AD and critical strike chance last time I checked he builds both of those. Next I clearly stated "I am not saying that it's unbalanced since it is a fair ability in the normal situation" and also are you saying that even though yasuo's wall doesn't block a trundle pillar or seismic shove that it is unreasonable to wonder why does it block "impassible terrain" coming out of the ground.

Ruin Lance1 votes

because PD and IE are all he needs to get 100% crit and cdr doesn't even affect his q or e. he also doesn't use mana so the passive from essence reaver is useless and wasted gold. he also needs the extra damage from IE's passive. there's a very good reason why people build 0% cdr on yasuo, because it's wasted gold.

also wtf does impassable terrain have to do with it being blocked by wind wall? seismic shove isn't coded as a projectile and neither is trundle pillar. however the line that determines taliyah's wall IS a projectile and therefore is blocked by wind wall. it makes perfect sense to me.

Bravoth1 votes

I see you are right about essence reaver then my mistake but here is the thing/problem with taliyah's wall., its a spell that creates impassible terrain the stuff that makes up the map and in the description of it all it tells you is that it creates a wall but because of what she uses to aim it and warn people before hand is a projectile the thing that follows it is stopped that seems wrong to me since illaoi is in a similar situation but shorter path but her tentacle is not stopped. You see with illaoi when she aims her tentacle it's path is marked out like with taliyah's ult and in both of their situations the path is basically a projectile and when yasuo put's up a wall it doesn't interrupt the actual marked out path of either spell but when the end results follows up illaoi's tentacles goes through but taliyah's wall doesn't and that seems strange since taliyah's wall is just impassible terrain popping out of the ground like with her seismic shove. Now maybe my way of thinking is wrong but partially because of my experience with illaoi I am used to the fact that if the thing that follows a path is not a projectile and the path isn't stopped or disconnected by yasuo's wall why wouldn't the terrain that is following it like an earthquake be stopped and not just knock yasuo aside.

Alex h87211 votes

Yeah i don't even really play him but even I know IE is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better for yas than ER since he will make far better use of the bonus crit damage since he can get to 100% crit off of IE and a zeal item for a huge 2 item spike.

Bravoth1 votes

Here is the thing though just because one item is way better doesn't mean the other item is garbage the reason IE is better is because of it's passive not the stats. Stat's wise ER has the exact same stats as but because IE increases critical strike damage it is the better item but that doesn't mean that ER is trash since that is literally the only difference between them.

actually they do, and his ult shud be exempt from benefiting from cdr, IMHO, cus despite other ppls ults, u do not want HIS to go off 2 times in a long team fight

so like half of your cc, nukes, and ults are rendered useless

so like half

half

Yasuo mains. Proving the point that he's not a thinking man's champ every. single. post.

Yaśuo Main2 votes

"rendered useless"

lets play the quote game

here you say "rendered useless" when its actually

"thinking where and when you need to use it"

"every 16 seconds"

24 seconds CD at level 1, lowest possible without CDR is 18 seconds (not to mention that if u build CDR on yas u must be delusional on how to play the game with certain champs)

"half of your cc, nukes"

CC is almost always melee and not to mention that mage champs projectile CC isnt even their damage unless ur 1000 range chain LB

you fail to bash yasuo at all points because you cant seem to have common sense to say anything on how most mid laners are gimped by one ability, not to mention the huge amount of dashing capabilties. so its not even usually half of the kits blocked, its almost always more

the only "nukes" i can think of that are actually meant to be nukes and not Veigar Q's or something is Veigar's R, Ziggs R, and Lux R I might be missing some due to the fact that i dont fight champions with built in nukes at mid usually.

honestly i ignored "half of your cc" because every other point in your "argument" was actually stupidly wrong and band wagon, not to mention i get the feeling you just edited the original for your own sake to make me look dumb

Bravoth1 votes

I agree that yasuo's wind wall takes skill since it is an instant cast in the direction he is facing but I wouldn't say someone is delusional for building cdr on yas just because of essence reaver since it makes it possible to easily build 20%CDR and get 20% critical strike and get 70 attack damage making it were he is only losing out on the mana regen passive but still seems like a reasonable item to build. Also I have no problem with yasuo's ability to block most of the things it does because instantly putting up a wall in time to block that is not easy my problem is the fact that weaver wall an ability who's only description is basically "creates a wall" is blocked by an ability who's only description is "blocks projectiles". So my question is do you think that is fair or should riot change the description of weaver wall Yasuo main?

Yaśuo Main1 votes

wind wall should not be blocking weavers wall ( i dont even know how its a "projectile" ) and i dont think it should block poppy's ult either, infact there are a lot of things that are questionable to whether it should be blocked or not like velkoz E, and im not sure if its actually nullified or not but Lux E should be stopped at the wall and not be poofed out of existence

Andrew the Fox3 votes

NO pls.... Taliyah is weak as it is, dont make another counter for her.

Bravoth3 votes

counter is already there and if siesmic shove is blocked by wind wall that would only help yas if he is standing directly on the wind wall since it would then be treated similar to ori's ball.

Kallian3 votes

The fact that yasuo can block ultimates in general is just horrible :^)

Bravoth1 votes

I am fine with that since things like cc can interrupt the casting of ultimates also

Quepha2 votes

It's a video game, there is no such thing as "through the air."

The definition of projectile in this game is a non-unit object with position and direction that isn't classified as not being a projectile.

Bravoth3 votes

Because it's a video game it sets it's own rules but since it using the english language to do so that means that unless stated otherwise a words default english meaning can be taken at face value and my question was is riot A) breaking it's own rules B) is this just a glitch/oversight or C) do they just need to change it's description because according to weaver walls description it " summons a massive wall "/" creating impassable terrain"/"creates a very long wall " in that description there is nothing about position/direction/momentum just that it creates terrain and since wind wall is only supposed to stop projectiles it shouldn't stop the creation of impassible terrain according to the current description so either the description needs to be changed or an interaction does.

Quepha2 votes

{quoted}

since it using the english language to do so

Games aren't written in English, they're written in code. C++, Java, Python, there are a lot of options but English isn't defined well enough to pull it off.

Bravoth3 votes

I didn't say the source code was written in english I said the rules are(not just in english but english is one of the languages) and what I am asking for the rules/descriptions to be changed or to change the interaction with changing the description being the simplest and easiest option. For some reason you are not actually addressing my question/point which is asking riot to have accurate descriptions or to fix this glitch you are only talking about air doesn't exist in this game and not actually discussing the fact that in an interaction in which something is being created at each point in a path and the only thing being moved is a body that the wall is stopping the creation of something instead of stopping something from passing through.

Quepha2 votes

The source code IS the rules. They are the same thing. When people play competitive games they want mechanical consistency over flavor consistency. They want to know an ability will be blocked by wind wall because the ability possesses the properties that make it blocked by the wind wall.

Bravoth1 votes

That is exactly what part of my original post covered which is the actual animation for the w(seismic shove) and the ult(weavers wall). W is not blocked but the ULT is even though the ult's animation is just W on a bigger scale so combine the fact that the description doesn't match up since the animation also doesn't match up that is what the problem is and that is what I stated in this thread.

Why would seismic shove be blocked by wind wall under any interpretation of the ability? It is clearly a delayed AoE in an area which causes a knockback on targets, that's not a projectile. I don't even understand where you would get the idea that her ult is the same as her W but on a bigger scale.

Bravoth2 votes

w makes one rock pop up and knock someone in a direction while ult makes a bunch of rocks pop up in a straight line knocking people in a direction but it just sticks around for a little bit unlike w .

I agree with that, under the condition that mechanical consistency has to match flavor consistency.

When we play games, we don't look at the code. We aren't programmers (yes I know it doesn't take that much knowledge to understand how code works but that's not the point), we're just ppl playing the game. We understand what the skill does by looking and analyzing the description, not digging into the interaction of the coding. Saying that's not how the code works does not justify the misleading descriptions.

If you're competitive or serious enough, yes you'd look into those, but I'd like to bring our attention to the fact that this game being competitive is nothing but a personal opinion, and competitive players are a small minority of the player base.

I agree with that, under the condition that mechanical consistency has to match flavor consistency.

So you don't agree in the slightest.

Not everyone is professional but everyone who plays ranked is playing competitively. Everyone seriously playing ranked understands that the graphic of stone rising out of the ground is just a graphic to look pretty and show what the hitbox is. People who play chess do not complain about a horse somehow possessing the strength to destroy a castle tower.

Bravoth3 votes

So you are saying we can't rely on graphics for anything but hitbox fine lets go with that then that makes it were the only way find out information about the ability you are dealing with is by looking at the description for champion abilities and using that to figure out/guess how they interact with other abilities because there is no way you are quickly pulling up the source code for league and quickly reviewing all the info on a champs ability in under 30 seconds thereby making it necessary to have accurate descriptions.

Quepha1 votes

I knew instantly by looking at Taliyah's W and R that her W would not be affected by Yasuo's wind wall and her ult would. I have never seen LoL's source code yet I understood how wind wall should interact with it.

Bravoth2 votes

So if I am understanding you correctly you are basically saying that my idea of just adding a few words to clearly state the properties of an ability in the description (which you can see by hovering over abilities in game) won't work. That instead players should do like you and rely on instantly knowing all the properties of an ability when they see it used during a match and/or outside of a match if they want to know it's properties they should just look at the source code of the game (which you stated you have never seen) and go through who knows how many lines of code to find out what properties this one ability for this one champ has and if your two methods don't work for them then they are just out of luck?

Quepha1 votes

{quoted}

So if I am understanding you correctly you are basically saying that my idea of just adding a few words to clearly state the properties of an ability in the description (which you can see by hovering over abilities in game) won't work.

It seems like unnecessary effort towards a non-problem.

Bravoth1 votes

Are you saying that it is not a problem if the only legitimate source of information 67 million people have is inaccurate even if it's just about one ability and that adding a few words to an abilities description is too much work to fix that problem(probably 1-2 hours of work if things are disorganized but if they already have a well prepared system in place will only take 15 minutes) .

Quepha1 votes

It's a problem if a lot of people are confused. Not a lot of people are confused.

Bravoth1 votes

So instead of implementing a simple fix before something escalates into a problem they should wait until it is a serious problem even if they have enough free time to browse these boards for a bit of busy work that will have a positive effect.

Tal ult is a series of trundle pillars. There is nothing moving that would indicate it is a projectile, it is fixed terrain creation. Windwall doesn't block trundle pillars so why does it block Tal wall?

AMYS GRAVE2 votes

They want to know an ability will be blocked by wind wall because the ability possesses the properties that make it blocked by the wind wall.

Circular definitions are true by definition.

Circular definitions are true by definition.

I may have used the phrase "wind wall" twice but that was not circular reasoning. Wind wall blocks abilities with certain properties: position and direction. it's very consistent and people watch it happen every time Yasuo is in a game. There is a new ability. It has position and direction. Given previous observations of how Yasuo's wind wall works, one should come to the conclusion that it is likely this new ability will be blocked by Yasuo's wind wall. Lo and behold, knowledge of the scientific process is rewarded yet again with the ability to predict the future.

AMYS GRAVE2 votes

Wind wall blocks abilities with certain properties: position and direction

No, braum's shield blocks projectiles. Yasuo's ult destroys non-unit projectiles. How braum interacts with Ashe arrow (for instance) is very different from how yasuo interacts with it. There is a difference between blocked and destroyed.

Also your definition fails to account for syndra toss, ekko parallel convergence, xerath ult, to name a few.

Your definition also fails to account for unit behaviour such as jinx chompers, olaf axe, zed shadow, etc... which are blocked by windwall but not destroyed.

Your definition also fails to account for champions who are always allowed through windwall.

And to the topic of this thread tal ult has a position, with each piece coming straight up from the ground, but no direction as each element of the wall goes nowhere. It behaves like a series of trundle pillars.

Quepha1 votes

You list a bunch of delayed AoEs and act like they are projectiles, stop being silly.

AMYS GRAVE2 votes

At least try to address my post, or at the very least acknowledge the difference between blocked and destroyed.

All of the abilities i listed have both a position and direction, and I've pointed out why that definition is silly.

It also doesn't explain why Lee Sin's cripple (an instant AOE around him that goes nowhere) is destroyed by windwall.

Also you want delayed AOEs then look at Ziggs ult which is conditionally destroyed by windwall.

Quepha1 votes

{quoted}

At least try to address my post, or at the very least acknowledge the difference between blocked and destroyed.

No, you were being pedantic by complaining about that irrelevant distinction.

All of the abilities i listed have both a position and direction

syndra toss, ekko parallel convergence, xerath ult all do not have a direction associated with them. They are all delayed AoEs on a fixed timer that never changes, mechanically each cast of those abilities is identical to a cast of Karthus Q.

AMYS GRAVE3 votes

To start with you didn't even try to adress half my post. What makes Ziggs ult different from Xerath ult? Why is Lee Sin's cripple blocked?

No, you were being pedantic by pointing out that distinction.

It is impossible to acuratly define projectile without that distinction.

syndra toss, ekko parallel convergence, xerath ult all do not have a direction associated with them. They are all delayed AoEs on a fixed timer that never changes, mechanically each cast of those abilities is identical to a cast of Karthus Q.

Syndra picks up a ball from that units location and throws it to a target location. It has both position and direction. Same for my other examples and they all fit your definition.

Your definition is faulty.

Ulquiorra9953 votes

Then what does an ability need to have to be considered a projectile? Nami and Gragas, for example, both have abilities which always land after a set amount of time, same as Syndra's W or Ekko's W. Those abilities have a visible projectile which travels in an arc from where they were cast... same as Syndra's W or Ekko's W. And those abilities are blocked by Wind Wall. So what is it that makes them different? Why is one considered a projectile and other isn't?
