Why I Love the Upcoming Quinn Changes
Hey boards, with the upcoming changes on Quinn having been recently revealed, and me being quite a big Quinn player myself (I almost only use Quinn when I'm put into a solo lane in ranked) thought I should hop in and give some of my thoughts.
Looking at much of the feedback given on Quinn's changes, a good amount of it seems to be very negative, as it appears that much of Quinn's "niche" as a champion is gone with the blind removal, the loss of the instant assassination burst, and less dueling potential against certain champions such as Vayne or Master Yi. However, with what RiotRepertoir and the team has given Quinn, I honestly feel like they have enhanced what I felt like were Quinn's strongest and most unique points in gameplay for me.
These are completely from a solo lane perspective, as I feel like pre- and post- Quinn changes are still lacking as adcs compared to other adcs.
First I'll say how I felt in game after using Quinn numerous times. When I'm in a match, yes the blind was definitely convenient to have in many matchups, such as Tryndamere, or Vayne, but in contrast to how oppressive it was in those matchups, it was useless in many other matchups. It definitely felt convenient to have, but I honestly never thought of it as being 'core' to her kit, or even being fun to have for me, or for the enemy. What I have felt were Quinn's major points in every game I played, however, were when I had my ultimate up, and made huge impact plays across the map due to Valor's sheer speed, when I'm able to roam mid as a top laner, or bottom as a mid laner, were when I truly felt unique and impactful in the game. Riot has identified what I felt was Quinn's best point to me, which was the roaming.
For those that say that they loved her instant burst as Valor, yes that is what attracted me to play her in the first place, and I still love doing that, but from a gameplay perspective, it didn't feel 'healthy'. There was extremely limited counterplay from the enemy, and it's use felt very limiting after bursting someone down. With Riot's changes, people need to remember that she can still assassinate! With her old ultimate, remember that Valor still used Quinn's basic ability rotation and damage (without passive procs) but it was simply condensed in a short time with faster autos and an execute at the end. With her new kit, imagine how your rotation is when you ult and jump on a lone enemy now (which you can do a lot more frequently), you're able to get skystrike damage proc your passive, get off your point and click disrupt, proc passive again, throw autos, and EXECUTE with new q damage, and if that's now enough, they added that sweet extra proc on the passive with q. You're holding more damage in the past but over a longer period of time. As Quinn, it's now less of panic situation if you don't instagib the enemy, as you're now deep in melee range with only autos,. You are now safer at a range, and have a ticket out as you ult to leave an area after killing if no one's close enough. As an enemy, this makes playing against her much more interesting, as you're still able to retaliate, instead of being instagibbed. This is like Zed vs Talon, Zed is much more fun, healthy, and less frustrating to play against when he's attempting to assassinate you than let's say when Talon is attempting to assassinate you.
There's definitely much more I can say about these changes, such as her different ult uses, and how her new Q improved many hard matchups and gave a much needed waveclear tool, but that's not the point of this post. The point is that I feel that these changes are an overall improvement to her strength, what I felt made her unique and impactful as a champion, help shore up her weak points, and is much less frustrating to play against. I understand that much of how people feel what makes Quinn 'Quinn' seems to be disappearing, but don't let emotion blind you from the points where Riot is enhancing her, she can still assassinate, and she still has her great matchups (hello Darius).
While I can't exactly predict how strong Quinn will be after the changes hit (I personally feel she will be very strong, and still best as a solo laner), I can certainly say I'm very excited and can't wait to try her out, if only I had a PBE account ahah.
This is my first ever post on the boards so I apologize if I did anything wrong, and if my thoughts seem too jumbled and don't make sense, please ask if you need me to clarify my points.
