Winning on 97+ LP should give you a free win in promos - Change My Mind

We've all been there. Its extremely tilting especially when you are going around even on gain/loss amount and they already give free wins for promos to a rank you've demoted from. Now I'm not suggesting that free wins should stack if you already have one but if you dont then you are getting shafted for LP. This irks me even more since demoting takes into account your LP loss and starts you there but promoting starts you at 0. And yes ik that zero still gives you a grace game to lose but its not always possible to go 1 for 1 every time you play. Idk what are your thoughts...

Maybe not an extra win, but if you fail promos it could give you more lp so it could be easier to get back into promos after failing.

Yea maybe it could take into account the "stored" lp you never got. I would even be happy if any extra lp you missed on say 98 lp translated to you winning promos. Like say i win on 98 and i gain 20 I should start my new elo at 18 lp.

at least not for division to division aka if you have over 100 lp on g2 you just go to g1

First its that 99 lp is tilting to get so it should auto do promos but now 98 is only 1 away so it should be too now 97 96 95 Where do we stop???

We stop at 1/4 the lowest possible LP gain per win.

Have it work like a college grading system since it's 0-100. In most colleges you've earned a solid A from 95 onwards. If you get 95+ LP, you get into promos. If you've already lost the same promotional series, you get into promos from 95 + and get a free win added.

But if you ask me promos should be taken out all together, that's just my opinion.

Or we can just keep lp from promos - for example, let's say Bob has a 3 game promotion series from Bronze 4 to Bronze 3. Bob came into the series from 97 lp. He gains 19 lp per win and loses 17 per loss. Bob wins 1 loses 2 and fails. Bob now has 97 + 19 - 2(17) = 82 lp.

In an alternate universe, lets say Bob actually won his promotion series. Bob won 2 games and lost 1 - so now Bob has 97 + 2(19) - 17 = 118 lp, or is now at B3 18 lp. He still has a grace period of falling at 0 lp, but now gets to keep the lp he got from winning the games. That way people who get into promos at 97 lp are rewarded more than people who scrape by at 81 lp.

tbh what makes it tilting is how theoretically you're wasting like 15-20 lp every time it happens.

however just note when you're at that amount of lp you can in fact dodge twice and still be like 1 game from promos.

That's exactly the same as "97 LP should be enough to get to promos". But then people would complain about having 96 LP...

I titled it 97 to not trigger people but i think 95 would be a good cutoff. And yeah 94 would suck but at least you have a chance of not wasting lp

Doesn't matter where you cut, the situation will be the same - if you're a few LP short of promos, you'll be disappointed regardless. And ~97 LP is not a terrible situation. If you have decent MMR (meaning you gain more LP for wins than you lose for losses) then you can afford to lose one game and still get to promos if you win the next one. In that sense you could say you have one "loss prevented" game.

You mean winning for only 2-3 lp makes you lose MMR?? If thats true i have never heard of that

Yeah mmr is like elo, if u do +20lp and +20mmr, but u get 97lp with 97 mmr at the end (because u gain a bit less lp after 50lp) u need 3 win so 60 mmr, but u wont get 157lp u will have 0 lp and to catch-up those 60 missing lp u will have a better lp gain. I abused of this when I was doing +12 now I do +18/+19
