So, I've never been a competitive player but I used to do well with Ashe when I played her last year (I stopped playing just before Braum's release). Now I hear that she's no longer viable and it feels like she's weaker than before (mainly, it feels like her attack or defense is relatively weaker).

I'm aware I'm not very good with her, but I just had to ask if there's been anything that's made her no longer viable, or whether there have been changes to her game/the meta that I should be conscious of when playing her?

Her attack is the lower (if not the lowest) than most of the marksman pool. This means her farm is terrible. Also, her passive sort of needs a rework, if not changed. The only thing going for her is her ult and attack speed.

That'd explain why I feel so much pressure early-game. Is this new though? I can't really show a history from before I stopped playing, but I used to do fine against others bot lane, mostly having trouble with Vayne, Jax and Jynx. Is she still viable?

The first rushed item should be infinity edge. This gives you 2x the damage off the passive. Her W does not reset the passive or slow it down, so spam it away.

There are multiple attack speed items she can use depending on the situation. One is Statikk Shiv because her passive makes it crit as well (from what I heard). I don't really pay attention to it though. The other two are Zyphir (For kiting and reliable damage) and Blade of the Rune King (For the 8% passive and reliable damage). I suggest you use one of these items.

Her two magic resistant items are Maw of Malmortius and Mercurial Scimitar. Mercurial Scimitar gives more attack damage while Maw of Malmortius is more magic resistant oriented.

The only 'defensive' item I can think of without sarcrificing damage is Frozen Mallet. This will give 700HP, 30 attack, and a larger kite ability because her Q and the Icy passive stack. Also, The Bloodthirster is another 'defensive item' since it blocks damage. Ninja Tabi can be used as a defensive item because not only does it give speed, but it gives block damage and 25 defense.

Essense Reaver can be used for mana problems and the 80 damage it gives.

There are also item penetration items like Last Whisper and Youmuu's ghostblade.

The boots for me are usually Boots of Swiftness or Berserker's Greaves.

I used Ashe for awhile so these are the items I usually go for.

She's not unviable level bad, but she could use some love. Most of her "relative weakness" you were describing has to do with changes in the "adc line" of items. IE and Shiv both got their crit chance lowered while PD got its increased (iirc it might just have been IE that got it lowered). I don't know if the changes on BT and Botrk were before or after you stopped playing though.

Hm, alright. Thanks for the reply, guess I'll have to just keep working on playing with her (I love her, but I hate making my team lose).

The issue with her is also her lack of escape.(She also has a low base movespeed) I usually attack until I am dead or the other person dies if I see no way to run. (Unless I have specific boots)
