Mastery Ranking System?

How does the mastery ranking system work? I don't get it. Sometimes it seems almost impossible to do so well with a champion. Especially, on certain champions that aren't already "in the meta" - it just makes it a lot more difficult. Example; some of my previous games and games that I have seen.

Aatrox 16/0/2 -** A+** (Me) Velkoz 14/7/(x)** S-** (Me) Velkoz 10/1/(x) A+ (Me) Alistar 5/4/8 S- (Ally)

How is going 16/0/2 not worthy of an S? Like, come on. If I got an A+ for that score, I guess it would be impossible to get an** S+**? I've seen people to tremendously poorly and still get an S or greater. I have even seen a XinZhao go 1 -10 and get an S-.

Someone please enlighten me.

KDA is only a fraction of how your ranking is calculated. For example if you went 16/0/2 but the game had 60 kills, your kill participation is not that high, which would lower your grade. CS is a substantial part of the grade. Warding, objectives, what role you played the champ in, and how other people perform on a champion are also factors. Other things like damage dealt/taken could also influence it for all I know. Nobody knows the exact weighting of these factors so there is no point in asking about that. One method that has worked for some people is playing champs in off-roles and performing well to increase their grades (like Kennen ADC instead of top or something weird like that)

so...is there any reason for Riot to be so mysterious and strange about this scoring system?

Why don't they show you end-of-game your scores in various areas (warding, kills, damage, etc) and explain why you got the score you did.

Also, it feels really bad trying to get S ranks as supports who can't pick up cs without taking it from other lanes. Going 8/2/9 (17 kills out of 29 on the team) on Taliyah support and being a grade short of the S rank I need for level 7 really stinks.
