I don't see him get that much play and he's often disregarded by players as not bad but not exceptional. Why is this? I play him lots and just recently had a game where I went 15/0/3. In another game I went something like 9/6/13. These aren't bad scores so why is he disregarded and if so, what are some better champions with similar play styles?
Every champion is this game is viable until around diamond 3. Then about 20 champions get left behind. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
However, you may have to work harder with some champions.
Volibear has become quite strong this patch, due to Cinderhulk.
Similar playstyle, as far as tankiness are concerned, are things like Mundo, Cho, Sejuani or Sion. And the in-your-face playstyle of Voli is similar to the one of Udyr, Xin Zhao, Jarvan or Vi.
