Syndra: I never remember her being this powerful

RuGu··3 votes·862 views

What the hell happened?

IMO: Her stun width is hard to predict and way too large, and her point and click ult deals WAY too much damage considering it isn't even a skill shot. At least make it block able if your ally steps in front of the damn thing.

Obviously there are other champs who are more of a priority ban lately.....But she is starting to creep up the ladder for me.

Lol, I remember a while ago I was seeing threads on "most difficult champions in the game" and Syndra was a very common pick. Now suddenly she requires no skill?

I find it hilarious that every champion that people think is OP requires no skill. It's a magical transformation almost.

Oh, a champion is powerful? Must not require skill.

Every champion requires some level of skill. OP or not. I think yasuo is digustingly broken good, but i'll admit it does take some skill to play him.

My problem is there isn't a trade off with her Ult being such high DPS, low cool down, and a point and click ability.

Syndra doesn't need to even land any of her skill shots to be able to Ult and do maximum damage with it.

You can't flash away, you can't have an ally block it, if you are lucky you can pop a heal / barrier and maybe survive it. The only way to counter the ult is to stay out of her range at all times.

For her ultimate to actually deal damage she has to summon 2-3 balls first, and for the 3rd one she will have to reset it with a W and then ult right after. Summoning 3 balls give you way more than enough time to tell you she will ult

my point is it really isn't hard to hit them with at least 4 if not 5 of the balls. being able to remove a carry before a team fight, regardless if that person makes a mistake is a little too good.

She has 3 balls circling her for the minimum damage on her ult, she has no cast animation delay so thats a minimum of 4 assuming you have the brain to press Q first, and if you're casually poking with Q, it's redundant to say thats a precursor to her ult.

Q, Q. E the first Q. E->R takes 3 seconds for 5 orb ult. Any more is pretty much overkill as said earlier. It's not a set up, it's her standard poke routine.

Lord Graves III2 votes

5 orbs will not be enough unless her enemy has been hit by everything else. And everything else in the kit is a skillshot.

Veigar item 3070

Lord Graves III2 votes

to be fair, the base damage on a 6 sphere ult beats the base damage on Veigar's entire combo.

Junkο1 votes

Ehm, nope.

Veigar gains 1 AP everytime he last hits with Q and 5 AP when he kills somebody. His skills also have really high scalings(100% AP on W, which is AOE and impossible to miss with E, 120% AP AND 80% ENEMY AP with his ultimate, and it's targeted spell). Add Deathfire Grasp to that.

Lord Graves III1 votes

You haven't refuted my point. At all.

Syndra ult at level 6 given 6 spheres deals 540 damage alone. Veigar combo at level 6 (assuming you land Dark Matter which is hard with only 1 level in E and assuming you level Q for farming) deals 250+170+120= 540 base damage total.

Syndra ult at level 6 does veigars whole level 6 combo. It also scales 1.2 with AP, just like Veigar's ult.

Yeah veigar might might scale harder in terms of damage, but syndra has higher bases. She has 4 damaging spells and her ult alone equals veigar's whole combo in terms of bases.

Syndra hits harder. Her QWE can be dodged of course, and veigar has the better stun. Syndra just out damages the little guy though.

Junkο1 votes

Mb i missed the base damage part. All you said is true yeah. I still prefer Veigar cause of his WTF burst potential though, especially against an enemy mage :P

Lord Graves III1 votes

Agreed. Veigar was my first main and still one of my favorite champs. I only started playing Syndra more because I got tired of losing every single laning phase ever.

Thats part of veigar's charm though. You literally never win the laning phase, but you still come out ahead like any good supervillain.

Now imagine that damage in an aoe hitting 5 people and you have a fiddlesticks ult

At least you can see it coming and attempt to avoid it, plus it puts fiddle in a dangerous place.

Well aside from the buffs she got very soon after her release, she got a LOT of bug fixes and other mids have been nerfed.

Basically, she's more usable than ever and her power has stayed the same whereas her competition's has been lowered.

Her point and click ult also requires a good deal of set up. To get the full effectiveness it also requires learning to juggle the balls. She can't just ult whenever she wants at least.

Have you ever played Syndra? Poke with Q,W all day. Once opponent is at 50% HP, Q->E->R dead.

The biggest problem is once she gets any AP item advantage, she can basically kill anyone she stuns. There is no "juggle" or technique to her kit, she just constantly hits you with long range poke and ults.

Syndra being powerful now is because of the trail of nerfed mid laners behind her. Every mid laner with high mobility has been nerfed, so now the most practical mage is the one with a long stun and damage.

Yes, but most of the mages with long / safe poke at least require you to land your skill shots.

Look at Ziggs, Lux, Xerath, hell even Orianna requires you to land the damn skill shot. I cannot think of any other champion, maybe Arhi, that can do what Syndra does.

I think Syndra's ult should actually have to penetrate to the target, similar to the Culling. If minions are in the way, it should take 1-2 balls of Q damage to remove them before the ult reachs the target. If Syndras ult could be blocked, it would balance the point click assassination factor, and we'd see less snowballing and more aoe coming out of her.

Press Q.

Setup Complete.

Playing against a Tank?

Press Qx2

Setup Complete

For when you really need to ruins someones day?

Press Q, Wait 3 seconds, Press Q, Press E on first Q, Press E, Press R. You dont even need to land any of those Q's / E as long as you do the order correctly.

The only thing that takes any skill is getting the 7th ball on the ground, which is really just overkill.

Syndra has no mobility and has extremely low defensive stats. She is also gated by mana and needs CDR.

Compare to Zed; Manaless Moderate defensive stats for a mid laner Multiple easy escape mechanisms (ult/shadow/AoE slow) Doesn't need CDR

Yeah I can totally see why Syndra needs nerfs /sarcasm Syndra is one of the only non-mobile mids that is viable right now. (Ori does not count, she has high movement due to Dissonance)

The fact that she is Non-mobile and a mid laner that is viable kind of makes my point. I agree Zed is insanely strong.

Junkο1 votes

So because she is not mobile she shouldn't be allowed to be viable?

RuGu1 votes

So because she is not mobile she shouldn't be allowed to be viable?

Of course not, it just means that other parts of her kit must be insanely strong to make up for a lack of mobility, and there is little reason to select any other immobile Mage because Syndra out damages them. The only exception would be a well fed veigar, however someone already posted that the base damage from syndras ult does more than his base damage entire combo.

Junkο1 votes

Immobile mids that are viable other than Syndra: -Lux, high poke, high damage, low cd ult, zone control -Ziggs, semi-global ult, spammable poke, low cds -Xerath, his range and damage -Malzahar, strong mana sustain, impossible to 1v1, high damage -Viktor, amazing AoE damage and zone control

I don't want to disagree with you, because those champions are 'viable', but they are now where near the strength of syndra.

I also hate to bring LCS / Worlds as a measure of a champions worth, but look at the champions you named vs. syndra.

Syndra: 11 Bans, 14 Picks in 74 Games

Lux: 0 / 0 Ziggs: 0 / 2 Xerath: 0 / 6 (The best one!) Malzahar: 0 / 0 Viktor: 0 /0

all of these champs dont even add up to syndra's picks and bans.

I'm not saying they are not viable, I main Lux, but i'm confident that Syndras lack of mobility is made up for easily with her huge burst Damage, Great Poke, Great CDs, and just how easy it is to land her Ult for massive damage.

Junkο1 votes

LCS /Worlds statistics are useless. Champions are banned because the opposing team is good at them, not because they are too strong. If LCS and World statistics mean anything, that means Alistar is broken with that 100% pick/ban rate, and Zilean almost 100% ban rate

I dont think the stats are useless, just skewed.

You can still gather some useful information from them, like which champions are generally better than others, you don't see them playing Urgot / Olaf do you? They wouldn't play a champion if it wasn't a strong champ to begin with. I'm sure they could probably make one of those champs work, but why not play the obvious stronger one?

Junkο1 votes

Actually one team picked Urgot, they won. Another team picked Poppy, once again they stomped and won.

Not at worlds?

And I'm sure a few odd ball picks can happen, and even win. But if either of those champs was insanely strong they would be picked more right?

Lucian isn't picked because he is black, just like syndra isn't picked because she is immobile. She is picked in spite of the fact that she is immobile and means she must be very strong.

You miss read it what I intended. Lucian isn't picked because he is black, but because he is godly OP. I should have tacked on the second half to make it more clear what I was getting at.

i agree with u, i play tons of Velkoz mid, and a lot people be like NO!! ar u craze, u will lose lane cuz he's inmobile , plot twist, end up fcking the other laner. cuz Velkoz has the longest ranges in spell, out side of Lux and some others mages.

Daishø1 votes

I love zed. He can all in at 6. Usually when i see a syndra picked in draft mode, i just go for an orianna or a zed. Zed can outplay anyone and if you time all you abilities, you can be in transition from one shadow to another and evade a decent amount of her damage because both his W and Ult are technically blinks.

Lord Graves III1 votes

(Ori does not count, she has high movement due to Dissonance)

Syndra is my #1 midlaner but you cant say ori doesn't count really. Besides, syndra can cast spells while moving, which is a criminally underrated trait.

Shes strong. Not OP but strong.

Are you trying to argue that Syndra can deal damage without landing her skillshots? Because that's absurd. She would have to be ridiculously ahead to be able to just walk up to you, press R, and get a kill.

I'm saying for her to get the maximum damage out of her ult, she doesn't have to land a single skillshot, just execute the combo correctly. She could throw the orbs behind her if she wanted.

Xerath at least has to land all 3 of his ult to do maximum damage and it can be avoided. Granted it has awesome range.

Syndra doesn't need to land a single skill shot to still hit a 6-7 Orb ult that cannot be avoided and does massive damage.
