A solution for AFKs in rankeds.

If there are 1 or more afks by more of 15 minutes and you lose the match, this guy should lose more LP, and the rest should lose less LP. I think like this the game will be less unfair.

Biggest problem there is: Player #1 is having a hard/off game/isn't doing too well as the jungler. Player #2 is 10lp away from promos Player #3 is at 0lp and afraid this game will drop him a rank Player #4 auto-mutes everyone cause he plays better without distractions and isn't great at following team 'orders' anyway. Player #5 insisted on being mid despite Player #1 saying it's his best role.

-#5 gives up 1st blood. Enemy mid uses the advantage to roam with their jungler to shut down Player #1 hard. #5 gives no MIA's -#2 and #3 both realize this game is likely lost, they think 'mah LPsSssS!!!summoner 3' so they start harassing #1 who clearly isn't trolling, and was even nice enough to give up mid to #5 even though he was 1st pick/pref mid, and isn't even doing horrible considering enemy mid and jungler are both continually camping his jungle with no backup from #5

-#2 and #3 are really laying the guilt trip on thick to #1. #1 eventually rages and quits. Loss. -#1 gets reported by all 4 allies/2 enemies, #2 only loses 5lp and wins his next game and gains 15lp/gets to his promos. -#3 doesn't get demoted for the same reason #2 only lost 5lp. -#4 had no idea the harassment was going on and just sees 2/5/3 leaver jungler. -#5 was probably the one who cost the game, but ended 2/3/4, mostly because enemy mid left lane a lot to camp jungle, he gets honored by #'s 2,3&4 for 'dealing with leaver jungler who fed mid'

TL;DR: It gives too much reason to harass someone undeserving of it in an attempt to stave off lp losses.

Why can't Player #1 mute, continue playing, report, and move on? Are people really so masochistic that they absolutely must take all this harassment instead of ignoring it completely?

He could, but before it started going downhill, #2 and #3 were saying useful things in chat- 'dragon up in 15', 'enemy ashe no flash' 'enemy pink in tri-brush' Because they were trying super hard to win, before it hit the point of no return. At what point do you cut off useful information in exchange for less distraction/harassment?

It's a slightly unrealistic scenario. Because generally if people are playing nice/doin' teamwork, etc, they will continue to even if it starts to turn south. But the stress of possibly losing out on an important rank/game, if given a motivation to force someone to ragequit, might turn a fairly nice player into a mean one to get what they want out of it.

Doesn't work that well. Then the assholes will just 'forget' to ping and say "Hey, I called mia, its your fault you died."

I completely agree with you. I think that, while your situation seems a bit extreme, adding any sort of "compensation" for an AFK just leads itself to loopholes and exploitations.

For example, someone in their promos could duo with a friends smurf, and, if the game wasn't going well, the smurf could simply disconnect.

Still, if #1 quits, ragequitting is one of the worst things you can do in LoL.

Even if #5 flamed, ragequitting is never an option

Yeh, not saying the ragequitter shouldn't be reported in the scenario. Just pointing out a flaw in the system to prevent afkers/make afking not hurt other players as much that could possibly end up causing more afkers, or people who would not normally afk to afk. In my scenario, #1, 2, and 3 should be reported. 4 and 5 didn't really do anything 'wrong' (not against the ToS/Summoner code to forget to call mia's/not react properly to counterjungling, or to /mute all....it just generally lowers your chances of winning and increases the chances of allies raging) The idea was showing a fairly common group of random solo queue'ers, and having Murphy's Law take effect with Alonday's afk/lp system in place.

Not saying to trash the whole idea, but just pointing out it's not that simple to fix.

Your situation is extremely specific and highly unlikely. My counter argument to people saying that it allows for loopholes and exploits is that:

  1. You can pretty much exploit any system in any game. Dota 2 has the same system you are suggesting and I personally thinks it works well. It forgives the players who are unfortunate enough to get an AFK on their team, while punishing the ones who AFK. What more can you ask for if you are a player of good intent?

  2. The person who AFKs still gets his penalty. So for everyone saying someone will just purposely AFK to save their friend a loss kinda bugs me unless then person will want to have a 20 minute queue just to save their friend from one loss

  3. The person who leaves the game still loses regular LP on top of the normal penalties. It will take some other player to AFK, which is still unlikely they will want a low priority queue or will even bother to take one for the team.

  4. This cannot be exploited more than once or twice maximum. If you queue with the same friend who already saved your ass from a loss twice, they will face a low priority queue the next time they do it, ultimately stopping them from doing it ever again in fear of the low priority, or even a ban.

  5. Having a system be exploitable by the minority of players is much better then having the face a loss for the sole reason of your mid lane or whatever being AFK. It's better to think about the players who actually play the game how it's supposed to played and not the .1% that decide to create smurfs every two weeks to safe themself a loss.

Exactly! Im constantly getting knocked down because someone else decided to afk. Constantly people who start games then say "i have to go in 10 minutes" or rage and afk. Then im losing games left and right and can never progress because someone else left the game?

Ok, more likely situation- Team #1 is winning, Team #2 is not. Someone on #2 attempts to get someone to afk so they won't lose LP. Negativity ensues.

Even if no one actually ragequits over it, it still has a lot of potential for ripping a team apart once one side or the other gain an advantage. ("YOU DC, You gave 1st blood." "NO U UR 1/4! stfu" "jungler dc cause he nvr gank")

There's already a good bit of salt in a lot of games once a it starts to go downhill, and that's when there's no reason/or advantage in getting anyone to ragequit.

And #1 mutes them and then reports them after #2 and #3 spammed the chat with incriminating evidence. #2 and #3 get chat restricted. PROBLEM SOLVED.

The solution is simple. AFK champs are replaced with AI scripts.

I hope you're kidding ;P

Even the newer/better AI are more or less perma feeder bots for anyone who knows how to manipulate them. I don't need a 30/0 kat in my 4v5, thank you very much! Nunu YETI KNOW THE WAY! Noo Nunu nooooo!!! It's a TRAP!

OhOkYeah1 votes

Why would they stick beginner level bots in? Riot is perfectly capable of writing a script for this. They did just fine with the doom bots.

I did say "the newer/better AI" not beginner bots. They're still not good enough for ranked.

Doom bots had stats that scaled up with game time, even if they didn't have the items/gold to account for them having the stats. They also had ridiculous multi-directional skillshots. And they were still fairly easy to manipulate and win against, even at the final level.

Gati1 votes

Like the idea, but rito should put them in as a level higher than intermediate bots (the hardest atm) hell bots? Would be cool to play 5vAI as well

OhOkYeah1 votes

Yes I agree. They did some creative stuff with the doom bots. I'm sure they are more than capable of putting something together. I just don't know why it hasn't already been done. Having a defensive bot that will need a bit of baby sitting is better than having the enemy team taking an entire lane to do whatever they want with (in my opinion anyways). On that note, how many non-bot human players have you played with that you had to babysit?

I agree. I proposed a change that would take this into account as well. Check it out and let me know your thoughts:

The solution to AFKs is stopping abusing your teammates you are the reason why people are AFKing if you keep getting them - Disconnects- welp guess what nothing to do here, do not punish people for real life circumstances --- so the AFK problem is either you being toxic or uncontrollable circumstances - it makes more logic to punish the people who did not intentionally AFK because they are toxic to make the guy quit in the first place because you are no longer making the game fun to play since punishing someone for uncontrollable circumstances through a disconnect is not fair and shit happens
