Need more bans for Season 5

MeteoKun··28 votes·2,587 views

Anyone else believe this to be true? I thought we were supposed to get +1 ban per season, as it did from S2 to S3, but apparently not. I see literally so many benefits to adding more bans, and not only adds more diverse team comps, it promotes it. As it stats, adding 1 more ban to each side would not be hurtful either, as such potential bans: Vi, J4, Lissandra, Irelia, Azir, Riven, Caitlyn, Ahri, Thresh, Janna, Kassadin, Kalistra, Vlad, Gnar, Graves, etc. Just by having +1 ban, reduces the amount of people needing to play by the exact champion meta currently, and can expand people's choices in what champ they want to play, instead of always being reduced to "Oh they have Lissandra , I should playVladimir " or something, or "They got Graves , should pick Caitlyn into it" "Oh they got JarvanIV , We should get Janna ". Anyone else see a pattern? Its just everyone picking the trinity/meta champs consistently.

JUST MY 2 CENTS DONT BURN ME ALIVE. :DTeemo And Happy Leaguing guys, 2015.

EDIT: Also please Vote/Comment below! I'm a very social person :D

I think 5 bans per team would be good. With as many champs as there are now it wouldnt cause any real problems unless both sides banned 5 adc's or something dumb like that

blueberrypancake2 votes

Then it leaves Teemo ADC and TF ADC :)

Nucleophilic atk1 votes

But how many viable champs are there lol? I would say that the amount of competitive level champs has probably decreased since s3.

let's see if we ban.... Ashe Caitlyn Corki Draven Ezreal Graves Jinx Kalista KogMaw Lucian

That leaves.. MissFortune Quinn Sivir Tristana Twitch Varus Vayne

Dude even if they ban 10 ADC,there's still quite a few left. This isn't even including any non-traditional ADCs.Plus, there's more champs on the way.So even if 2 teams waste all their bans on one role, there's more than enough champs to compensate, thus no problems.

Also to mention, I'd highly doubt that BOTH TEAMS would oblige to banning out a total of 10 ADC's, and leaving a bunch of other meta/op champs in the open for free. Especially people who are like me, and hate Irelia as a whole because she makes it so that she stunned you at the start of this post, and your still stunned. Irelia

So the chances of this happening (both teams banning champs from on role) is very slim & it's very pointless. I mean if you got 5 bans,at least ban 1 from each role.

So this means that 5 bans each side isn't a broken idea at all.

Jeddy0175 votes

With at least 6 champs added each year & the roster now has 120+ champs,I think it's fair to increase the bans by 1 at least.

It promotes a lack of caring. Why bother learning how to deal with a lane that counters you when you know it'll always be banned. Why bother ever picking up an assassin when most or all will always be banned now? Why bother trying for a meta when the moment it's decided, it will become insta-ban and now you're stuck trying to figure out new picks.

True, but once people figure other champions out, and either have a personal hate against it, they will ban it out, leaving a champ open to pick either way. But I do see what you mean, if ALL ranked games would be the exact same bans, I guess it just works both ways.

Kuroi862 votes

There would need to be guidelines to it. Only allowed to ban certain champions a certain number of times before you have to deal with a certain number of games where you cannot ban them. Essentially prevent perma-ban status while also promoting varying teams more.

"Ban Zed! Ban Zed!" "I can't. I already banned him a bunch" "THEN PICK HIM" "I don't have him" [retard, idiot, GG, etc]

Kobila20001 votes

Just no. That's moronic. Permaban status is not some great conspiracy among players who just pick a random champion so they'd spite its mains. It's when people are sick of playing against an unfair champion who is too strong currently and is being abused because of it. And really, not banning overused broken champions is "promoting variety"? lol really? Why, just look at all the support variety at bot lane because people can't afford to waste bans on them. Let's see: Thresh, Thresh, Leona, Thresh, Leona, Leona, Thresh, Leona...Oh, so pretty much the same it's been since Thresh was released. Wait, there's some Annie and Janna occasionally and...yeah, that's it. 4 supports. The variety is mesmerizing!

Because Alistar Braum Morgana Nami Sona Zilean All don't exist obviously...

Perma ban status is more about people not wanting to deal with a champ that directly counters them, it has little to do with being fair.

Kobila20001 votes

I'm not sure if you're playing dumb or completely missing the point, but yes, these other supports might as well not exist. At least if you play higher than bronze. LOL are you even listening to yourself? Permabanned champions counter everyone? So Zed just happens to counter every champion the enemies want to play? Lee just happens to counter every champion the enemies want to play? We have a word for that: it's called overpowered.

You do realize most "OP" champs are simply champs that excel in current metas?

ChargeItDownMid2 votes

Kuroi861 votes

Nice try, but the pro scene sets the meta, they pick champs that work well or pick champs that counter what is currently popular, that slowly trickles down the ranks as people watch the pro scene and suddenly think "OMG that champ is so op I want to play them!"

I suppose that makes Shen the most op of all, better nerf...

Funny, both Lee Sin and Zed have been nerfed as well. Lee Sin is actually having issues in the new jungle, free week, he struggles to clear to level three and gank with more than half health, despite his lifesteal and spellvamp.

Zed' recent nerf has hit his dueling and split pushing ability pretty well, though I expect he'll get a bit more shaved off soon. His split pushing is still pretty good if you know what you're doing.

Having tried both champs out, I seriously cannot accept anyone calling them op, that just sounds ridiculous. Seriously show me proof, don't just say op.

blueberrypancake2 votes

U'd probably like the DotA pick ban phase

ChargeItDownMid2 votes

[deleted]

Kuroi861 votes

Remember, only the most op champions are ever permabanned and those champions are first in line to get nerfed and dropped out of ban status.

Akali Fizz While not op, both toxic as hell with play style and lack of counter play, both permaban for a full season with no noticable nerfs...

It just prevents players from a using the 10 op champions and completely ignoring the 110 inferior champions because they can win on the strength of their op champions alone.

...please tell me you don't believe that bs. LCS runs with nearly twenty different champs, each more fitting to a players flavor rather than strength. Heck even Taric can dominate in a game if you know what the heck you're doing and don't make mistakes.

ChargeItDownMid1 votes

What?

Bans are to help set you up with a specific comp or deny a specific comp to your enemy, it has nothing to do with how strong a champion is. That is the stupid mind set that people have lumped onto bans in ranked.

Kobila20001 votes

Can we stop with the "everyone can be op" fairy tale for bronzies? Are you people blind when you don't see the same champions dominating over and over again, both in LCS and high elo? Yeah, Taric can totally dominate when the enemy picks Thresh! Yeah! That's why no-one is doing is.

Fuck no, the lobby takes too long as it is in draft games. And then if someone dodges, all I can say is hell no. three is fine.

Riot can't raise the number of bans because then it might be possible to ban out all the mobility creeped bullshit in the LC$.

Angry Monster1 votes

The ban increase happened in season 2 not in 3.

I am not sure where you get your random thoughts from. Riot has stated many times since season 3 that they were not looking to increase bans due to the complete elimination of champ types for lanes.

Example. If each side has 10 bans you could remove almost every legit ADC screwing over a host of players. You could target pick out a particular player in competitive also.

Sorry, I meant S2-S3 as in, it happened in-between that time.

I don't see what "random thoughts" you are refering too, would be more helpful to the topic if you stated to what. Also there already is elimination of champ types for lanes, as stated before, its just meta champ and meta champ, and if you dont follow the meta, you either get face rolled by meta, or get reported for "trolling."

I do see this as a potential issue, as the number of certain roles would be decimated if all bans were focused on them, so maybe a counter-argument would be to have 2 bans MAX on each side for a role, such as marksman, fighter, mage, support, etc.

Angry Monster2 votes

First off it was mid season 2. The is no season 3 period in this time frame. Go look up season 2 worlds video footage you will see 3 bans. Admit you were wrong instead of covering up your mistake. Saying season 2-3 is another way saying after worlds before preseason (3), which is still wrong.

your random thought

I thought we were supposed to get +1 ban per season, as it did from S2 to S3,

you had no context to even have that thought. If you would of follow any posts about the bans in season 3, you would of seen how riot said they would never do 4 bans but could see a time where 5 could happen(theoretical possibility). Again you had a random out of your ass thought with no reason but your personal wish.

does not work for several situations. For the first and obvious problem, you say no more than 2 per class. What is zed? Assassin. Then what is LB? Assassin Mage. Opps. Ok how about ezeral? AD/ mage, damn. What about maokai? Tank/ mage. see the problem?

2nd problem. Your taking out current valid banning in competive play. Every Pro player has to have a deep champion pool or they get banned out and forced into sub optimal options. By lowering ban conditions (through limitations) you are allowing laners to not have as deep pool of champion pools.

I am sure there are more issues. But those are the most obvious in your face issue.

blueberrypancake2 votes

Why do you honestly care if he was wrong? its just a discussion. Your second problem is actually a problem with LoL compared to other Moba's. In DotA 2 you can't main a champion and expect for it to fit in every single game. Pro players being able to change up their strategies is a good thing. With the banning roles thing was something add so breaking the meta is viable. Want to go back to season 1 with bruiser bots, that would be interesting. Please look at the other side of the argument before trying to make some feel crap about their opinion.

you got to be kidding. His whole premise is a joke. With the facts that he is carrying around might as well talking about how GOD should of made clouds GREEN.

Champion Skin2 votes

Well why would both sides ban ADC's if it isn't in their favor? And in what case would it be favorable to do so? Not to mention not like it would hurt to increase the bans to 4 or 5 on each side as there are more then 10 available champions in each role... And if one team uses their 5 bans to try and ban out a player... well then the other side can do so as well?

Angry Monster1 votes

In solo q its never about everyones advantage. A lot of people who do not play bot lane (like me as a jungler main) hate the mobility on ADCs (cause it makes life harder) . If i can force ADCs on non mobile options through bans, why not? The ADC is an easy example, you can say the same thing for assassins or viable tanks. Take your pick on a class.

Champion Skin1 votes

Well I don't really see a problem with banning mobile ADC's or some other subset of champions you or the champions you like to play struggle with... isn't that the point of bans?

Angry Monster1 votes

To ban certain few sure. To ban a whole class no.

Champion Skin1 votes

There are more then 5 or 10 of any class if your team/you use all your bans on ADC's or whatever else

SmokingPuffin1 votes

You are imagining having more bans leads to more variety. It's not likely.

If we go to one ban per player, we will probably add a couple more champs to the permaban list and play with champions 11-30 instead of champions 7-26.

TheRocket221 votes

i think the game should have been 5 bans per team since a while. With the shitload of champs they brough up in the last seasons. But lately its always the same carries that are being played

Sir White Yoshi1 votes

To be completely fair about this, there's just too many champions. Like, when I play I always ban Vi, Kat and Ekko, but then there's other champions that cause problems. We got 125 champions, and I wanted an extra ban at 100 champions but that never happened
