Does Riot Place Bad Players On Your Team in Most Series Games?

alexob··8 votes·11,446 views

Since Season 3 I've been slowly climbing from the bottom of Bronze 5 and I am now in Silver 2 trying to get Gold before the season ends. I got into the series for Silver 1 a couple days ago and I ended up getting a player who other players in the same lobby were saying "Oh my god I had this guy last game he is such a feeder." The player never talked once, he fed, didn't ban Tristana, etc... I tried to help him and give him advice but he wouldn't talk. We lose the game. Then, I tell myself, "Oh well, I'll win the next two games." Low and behold, the same exact guy is on my team and picks Tristana (I think this is the first time he's ever played Tristana as well) and feeds like hell again going mid lane. Is this fair? How many people are playing at 5PM PST in Silver? Do I really have to be paired with the same guy who refuses to communicate and feeds the whole time? The same exact thing happened in the series last night. In the lobby again, someone says, "I played with this Ryze last game, he was support and kept feeding to the other team ADC and we lost." We lost of course because he was something like 2/10 or 1/9 at the end of the game and Rumble (OP) was walking all over everyone at that point. Game 2 of my series was lost because of an intentionally feeding Lulu who was mad because she was "stuck with support" in a ranked game. That's for another thread but I think you should learn every role before playing ranked and deal with it if you're last pick.

Anyway, does Riot pair you with players who are known to be reported or players who are known to feed? I look at the way these players play and they make the kind of mistakes that I haven't made since I started playing. I ping and ping all I can and try to stay positive but people who don't even talk or ping mia or listen to anything are almost useless. We'd more likely be in a better position with an AFK than someone going 2/10.

I am done. I made the series to Silver 1 by carrying the team with Warwick (even though his Q bug is still something that Riot won't fix). Then, it seemed that every single game I was paired with people who were trying to lose. First a "first time" Sion that didn't land any of his shots. Then, a "first time" Vi who kept on dying in her own jungle to Wukong. There are people who play champions for the first time in Ranked but two games in a row is ridiculous. I can't take trying to be nice to everyone and let them know what they are doing wrong while all of them are just terrible. I can't even fathom how they made it to Silver in the first place. Some of these people are even Gold 5/Gold 4 and they are terrible. They make the kind of mistakes that people who first start playing make. I don't belong in Silver but I am not patient enough to try to deal with all this stressful bullshit to get to Gold. Either the matchmaking system is flawed or I just have really bad luck, but I'm not dealing with it anymore.

Uninstalled the game.

Dude I had an 11-game win streak the other day and climbed b2 to s2 in a few days. Started a new day S2 with 86LP. Been paired with afk'ers and feeders ever since. Currently 28 LP S3 and falling. Matchmaking is rigged. There's no way it's all coincidence that I get great teams for so long then terrible ones. Heck I went 22-5 a few games ago and still lost.

Riot should ban intentionary afk and trollers!Ban forever!! This riot never know to solve the problem with the trollers and afkers

I'm not sure, I seem to get these types of players in every game. Series or no, I'm constantly given anywhere between 1 to 3 feeders/afkers per game.

Amusingly enough, pretty sure it's the only way around. For most people, playing 10 games a day won't be faster than playing a handful.

Lolking for the guy who played Lee and then Tristana. His W/L this season is 257-251. Just before those two games, he went 13/4/11 as Kat. He went on to win 3 out of his next 4 games after the two losses with you. He was 9/9/2 as Lee, and though he did go 4/15/2 on Trist, you were also 0/2/3 in that game (and 5/8/5 in the Lee game). He is not a noticeably bad player by any means.

Lolking for the Lulu. He has an impressive 95W-67L history and sports good KDAs with low deaths in all his other visible games, including losses. Was he intentionally feeding in that game, or just doing really poorly in trying to carry from the support role and failing? It's not clear. He was 2/15/4 but your whole team was doing impressively bad. 16 kills to 48 deaths in all, with you contributing quite a bit with your 3/10/4 record. Perhaps it was a situation where everyone was doing poorly, and then he raged and fed to speed up the end of the game. That's not acceptable, and it should be punished, but it's a far far cry from "Riot put a bad player on my team, knowing that they would probably make me lose my promos." He is not a noticeably bad player by any means.

I think you're imagining this trend. As people are very fond of saying, "the common factor in your bad teams is you." And it looks like you didn't have a very impressive performance in any of those games.

People will talk about their bad games, the ones they "can't win".

But as soon as they get a winning streak they'll take the credit even when they get carried. When's the last time you've heard someone talk about games they "couldn't lose". You know, those games where as long as they don't actively get in the way of your fed carries, they'll collect free LP at the end of the game.

I've actually had a few of those, quite nice to have them once in a while.

Thanks for the reply. I admit I didn't do well during the end of that game; however, I try to help my team. By the time I was 2/1 and Lulu had already given away 8 deaths along with the other players giving away deaths, it's kind of hard to not die when their whole team is fed. And yes, she was intentionally feeding, everyone on the team including her ADC was like, "Lulu I don't know why you're walking into the enemy not attacking but I am reporting you after the game."

Again I admit I'm not the best, but I still feel as if I am paired with too many afks and feeders when I have worked my way up. I know I will get to Gold but it's kind of shitty dealing with being placed on the same team of someone who just did horribly in my second series game with them. Now I have to wait about 5 minutes before starting another game so it doesn't happen.

I've had a theory that a quirk of the MMR system causes players whose MMR is rising to be placed on teams with player's whose MMRs are falling/stagnated to generate an average MMR more in line with the opposing team. It's based on anecdotal evidence from before the randomization of pick order, and I'd love to be able to actually test this hypothesis, but the tools aren't really available.

Statistically speaking a got extremely many afklers / diconnecters during my last for 5 promo matches until I succeded... It might have been very bad luck though.. (Gold II to Gold I )

They don't intentionally give you griefers.

They DO intentionally make it harder for you during promotion matches by giving you weaker teammates and better enemies. They said that this is because they want you to prove yourself. (Weaker teammates are more likely to be trolls, but Riot isn't cherry picking trolls on purpose)

You are mistaken. The matchmaking system does not do this.

Explain why I didn't need to do more than show act of presence in 7 of my last 10 games? Explain how when I got into my series, crashed on load and joined 8 min late the game was 7-0 and I cruised to a free win? Second game was even more stompy. Heck, for the second season in a row, I get a disconnect on the enemy team for my 3rd win.

The game hates you and is stacked against you! I call that selective memory.

Do you buy a lot of stuff from riot? Skins and such, I am developing a firm belief that they pair people who put money into the game with better partners.

I dont think they do i have played the game since beta and bought tons of skins, i think Riot just wants a unfair game thats all so people keep play it when they rage from losing. Or eaither they are making good players get bad players to carry the bad players in that case is impossible.

Thanks for the reply. I have noticed that from winning most my games until my series or going on a complete win streak until my series then getting paired with people like that. It's a bummer but I've climbed through those series before so only time will tell. I think luck has a lot to do with it since they pair you with weaker players and a lot of those players are trolling or feeding intentionally or unintentionally. I will just try to carry as jungle and keep my team positive.

Yeah, no, they don't. Raptamei just invented that. Riot don't do that, and never said they do that.

So, basically they are giving one team an advantage over the other? Rito logic

That's not true. I'm gonna have to ask for a source/quote, because otherwise it just sounds like bullsh*t.

I find it hard to believe that the match maker will do this. The reason is, this kind of match making behavior causes the 4 'weaker' players to have a bad game. in essence, they are put into a game where their ability to influence it in their team's favor is weak. why would riot intentionally provide 4 players with a bad game?

I just had a game where me and my duo friend did alright (he went 21/8, I went 8/7) and the rest of our teams combined score was 9/40.

Of course Riot will pairs you in a bad team in order to make you lose most of the game. It makes you frustrated however this strategy keeps you to play again and again. This makes sense from a business perspective because that's what they are trying to achieve. To have lots of players! Well as a human being we alway want to climb up the ladder and achieve things. When you have bad teammates in a series of games you believe the next one will improve. Riot clearly exploits this advantage.

Morturii1 votes

Wouldn't that be, I don't know, illegal? Kind of a like a psychology test against people that are unaware of their test? If you could make a case then you could shut down their management and start over.

My opinion is the same, they try to give bad players a good player. The problem is, the bad player is usually a support, which can't have an effect on the game like a mid or top laner. So in theory, they could be doing a mind test on everyone that is Gold and under, keeping them where they are with the players having no clue what that they are being tested.

DeathBurst1 votes

The best way to keep people interested in the game in order to have a lot of players is not to make them lose games... No, it's to provide fair matches that are balanced and interesting.

I went into silver 1 series 3 different times with a free win each time. I assumed it was in the bag. Nope, I was wrong ,3 different times 6 games I lost. I didn't believe it but yes.

I would also like to point out that I know I get reported for telling people how to play their champ. Not being rude. Just telling them what they should be doing.

I received a message as soon as a game ended for "offensive language" which is a joke because it has no been proven in the tribunal. It's like our current justice system and no better.

Riot is a joke. They intentionally find it necessary to keep good players from reaching the top. Most of these "pros" would be out of a job if most of the actual good players got a chance to be there.

Also suggested, the more you play the higher the "chance" is that you will move forward. Which I only play when I wanna feel horrible about myself. Lol

I also believe that I get thrown with bad players because I try to keep a high KDA. Yes, if my team is full of Retards and they decide to team fight a Fed team, I sit at nexus and sip on a pot.

Fuck you riot and your "Government actions" to keep good "players/ Americans" held at bay.

And fuck you Obama.

Won first 2 out of 5 for gold series

3rd game I get an adc with massive lag who afks, free loss

4th game I get a Yasuo on my team who racks up 19 kills and 5 assists before 20 mins, free win

RNG is RNG

However, the first 2 games I won were mostly fair and those were what ultimately led to my successful series.

Seriously, this kind of thread makes me sad.

As I'm writing this, there are 221 people who voted "Yes". Like, for realz? If I don't debunk this myth about match-making every two days, I didn't debunk it once...

No, Riot doesn't force you to lose after a series of wins, they don't purposefully tank your series, they don't prevent you from climbing in any way. They honestly do their best to provide fair, balanced matches to everyone and anyone, because that's the best way to have fun matches and it's in their best interest for you to have fun. The issue is just that it's fucking hard to do, so sometimes they fail, and it's unfair and unfun, but they don't do it on purpose...

Chronos Deep1 votes

You are just wrong! Why the moment I step into my series, I get a jungler who has a 1/9 winrate last 10 games and does so poorly with an op champion? My midlane is premade with him and has a 3 games lose streak prior to this game.

DeathBurst1 votes

And you want me to believe it never happens outside of your series? Of course it does...

And be as cynical as you want, imagine Riot is a Big Bad Company that only cares about money, and tell me: WHY? Why would they purposefully tank your series? Why would they provide un-fair matches? It makes NO FUCKING SENSE AT ALL. It is against THEIR interest.

Why?
