A small problem with ranked

Ranked is only loosely based on skill.

Now before all these posts about how streamers or challenger players climb from bronze to challenger in a couple weeks just let me explain.

The "Evidence" Basically the "if you are good you will climb" rule comes from there being 10 players, 1 is you. If you are good, your team has 4 possible baddies and the enemy team has 5 possible baddies. Cool, that's great. But let's say for instance you're not challenger level, but you are (I dunno, how people consider themselves in skill. I've seen crap diamonds and good silvers) 2 leagues above your opponents in terms of skill/gameplay. While it is a marginal difference, you can still only do so much as one person. As such, you are bound to lose. So lets say your bronze/silver win rate is 75% (which is rather high considering the amount of inting, afks and trolls down there.). It will still take around 5 games per rank to climb assuming 100% winrate, given a the losses (and their timing aka in promos could set you back much more than 2 losses at 0 LP) it could take from UP TO 10 games per rank (at this high win rate). So lets say you belong in plat 1 and you're slumming down in silver because you wanted a challenge or made a new smurf or something I dunno. You still have to play around 25-33 games in silver (assuming you skip silver 4 and 2). Then you get to gold, your win rate goes down because the enemies are slightly less bad and your skill doesn't surpass them AS MUCH. So let's just add a random 8 games, and still say you somehow skip gold 4 and 2 (which honestly I'm not even sure is possible here but my point isn't exact specifics so that's okay). So now we're at ~58-74 games. Just to get to plat. Now you're in your general area and so the enemies aren't as bad so your winrate drops to just over 50%. 1 rank would take ~30 games because you're getting average 8 LP per 2 games (say +25 and -17) and then that 1 or 2 extra wins that make your rate over 50% for ONE rank. Now we're at 88-104 games.

The Point So let me just get to my point because I do admit I rant and like to insert extra non-essential detail. Ranked is simply based on the amount of time you have to play. In most multiplayer games, time gets you farther because you have time to farm up items/gold or time to get your skill up beyond that of your opponents. In league, time is just essential to climbing because the games are ridiculously long for low LP gains. You could be amazing, but if you don't have hours a day to commit every day, it doesn't matter. You can only climb so much due to how long games take on top of the fact that. Riot seems to be addressing this by adding tools to take over the game faster (snowballing, the new rift herald) etc. But you can still only do so much as 1 person. Team's losing lane and you're winning yours (not dominating) its not like you can just kill your laner, TP bot 1v2, solo drag and then walk up top and solo rift. Hell, depending on what champion you are, you can't do a lot of objective based stuff solo during certain times depending on what the enemy team is doing.

The Question SO, what are you supposed to do if you belong higher but don't have time to get there? Considering Riot refuses to make LP gain/loss based on actual participation in the game (despite having systems in place that grade each persons performance individually???). The sheer amount of trolling/tilting/inting/etc that goes on in the game. Why are LP gains and losses so close. Even on a streak your LP gain jumps to +33 and you lose 12, you can't streak forever unless you're literally god-like in a low rank for some stupid reason.

The Request Please, remove these safety nets that are losses at 0 LP. Make trolling, inting, and etc more punishable (it's really not hard to tell but I don't know how much information is actually looked at). Hell sometimes you can troll just by split pushing or farming minions and not helping your team intentionally. Like "hey having a team fight right next to me, sorry gotta get this minion" and then they suicide in after everyone's dead. It makes it look like you're not trolling because you're not completely inting, but its still basically a 4v5. As 1 player, you can only control yourself, so before you say "well then don't team fight if you know you have a troll" uhhh now it's a 3v5 if team wants to so there's no winning either way lol. And make wins feel like WINS. You win a game and instead of being like "YEAH WE JUST CRUSHED IT" or "WOOO NICE COMEBACK" you're like "Great... +26 LP.... too bad those 2 games i just lost before this took more than that away."

Anyway, I know the forum is full of trolls (and yasuo haters for some reason lol). So let me also say:

  1. I'm not saying this correlates to me being plat 1 level or anything like that.
  2. I'm not a yasuo main.
  3. I'm genuinely wondering why it is based on such a time-intense system just to move up 1 rank which as we all know, socially (or whatever you'd call it) means nothing. No one's like "SILVER V? PFFT IM SILVER IV NOOB" (ok some do but you know what I mean).
  4. TL;DR - Please make it viable to be get to your "actual" skill level within a reasonable time. Even if you're past your skill level, you can't even fall fast! The games are still long and dodge timers are as well. You can't even fall to the rank you deserve to be if you somehow get past it by a decent amount.
  5. Also about the Challenger people can carry out of bronze thing. Yeah. They play ranked all day.... on streams (otherwise why are they trying from bronze?). They play league 24/7. Which just further proves my point that time is basically the main controller of your rank. (not the only, no one that is actually super bad is going to somehow get challenger just because they play 24/7, assuming they stay bad.)
  6. My main point isn't "Hey make it so I can get plat in 3 games" it's simply, given how long the game takes, the amount of uncontrollable variables in each game that can cause you to lose (meaning you WILL lose sometimes). The amount of time to climb is a lot of your life. Assuming you're not a 12 year old kid with no bills or a person streaming league for revenue, we have jobs, we have spouses, we have other priorities of life that are above playing league everyday for hours, but that doesn't mean we belong at a lower rank when rank is basically supposed to represent your skill level.
  7. I'm sorry for long post, I really wish I could sum it up faster as now I'm sure people will complain about the length as well xD.

I agree with everything you said but they won't change it til next season so for now let's just improve ourselfs and hopefully get out of Bronze/Silver.

I guess. My main problem is with this season for instance we were purposely placed lower than we should have been. Which for people with limited time to play is actually a major thing. So now if I don't have time to no-life the game this season and climb, next season I'll be placed even further down.

Yeah they placed me bronze 3 when they place newer players silver.
