I hate the report button so fucking much.

K so here's the scenario.

I just played a ranked game.. we had a kat mid and a shyvana jungle.. k cool w/e.

now of course we get a shaco top lane , teleport/ignite, some pink ward wanna be.. and I get a pantheon support who went 1-12 .

k w/e we have all had these games, it happens.. people don't try to win or just don't care (EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE PLAYING RANKED.) This post isn't about the useless pink ward wanna be who pretty much let the Quinn 1 trick free farm all game, or the pantheon support who admitted in chat that he has never played pantheon support, and as I said proceeded to go 1-12.

No, this post is because dealing with all this crap, I am bound to get a bit annoyed. Do I care if people have bad games? No. Do I care if I lose because I deserved to lose? No. Do I care when people are literally just not trying at all from champion select in a ranked game? Um yes that does bother me because what is the point of doing that when you can just play the NORMAL queue??

So, the entire game I am trying to keep my cool and not say anything toxic (Which I believe I didn't), but I did chat with them and I did show frustration in what they were doing to my game for absolutely no reason except probably pure boredom. So as we are getting massacred, the troll shaco top constantly says " we can win this guys, we got this " , and the pantheon support is pretty much just trying to make me look like some crazed lunatic because I am annoyed at him and showing my frustration.

Of course the game is about to end and what happens? I bet you can guess! Yep, the troll shaco and the pretty much inting pantheon support are on the same page now against me, the 8-4 jhin.. and out comes the famous all chat, "Report Jhin, blah blah blah." (sidenote: I didn't say one word in all chat until they said that and all I said was "trolls") Whether the enemy team reported me based on their words, I still got 2 reports at the end of the game for some bullshit.

So now I sit here, worried that I am going to get punished for this crap, and even if I don't get punished for it, the game is probably on my record for the tribunal and I probably only have 1-2 more chances before I get punished. How pathetic is this report system?? Two people intentionally troll a ranked game and I'm over here worried just because they had a number advantage on me and decided to report me cause I was angry.

Riot: start being stricter on intentional feeders or start reading these chats with actual context between what the player is doing and why the person is angry.. you like to talk about how we are responsible for ourselves and shouldn't be negative just because someone else is, well maybe you need to be a little more strict in the ranked queues, because a lot of us come there to play our best and we don't want to deal with these people when there is a normal queue for such nonsense.

/rantover

TLDR: It is bullshit that people can intentionally troll a game, or pick some off meta crap and play horrible in a ranked game, and make someone who is actually trying to win angry... then the trolls can report the angry person and get HIM punished while they get off scot free. Riot needs to either start being stricter with intentional feeders or start reading context between the 2 players and see why the person is angry, it might actually be justified?!

RANKED- play serious NORMALS- do w/e the hell you want.

Nah. We shouldn’t report that. That’s just a person who doesn’t know how to play the game. Lmao.

My question is more, how did he manage to get so many expansive as fuck items? Must have been CS'ing like a god and split-push all game long, and in that case, the 41 deaths are not as significant as they look.

I like how you didn't link directly to the post to avoid name and shame, but by not linking to the post nobody can check this since nobody is going to hand check every thread on PB (unless I'm missing something).

I think Krol just made a mistake. To my knowledge, there's nothing against linking others' posts.

Yea, they should start punishing trolls and inters a lot harder, instead of focusing on "flame" that can be muted.

they should keep focusing on flame but they should start focus more on intentionally feeding players,

No bad he listed the correct solution to take the heat off flamers a bit and handle trolls more.

wowlukas14 votes

its not always a troll that makes people flame, sometimes they flame when someone looses their lane

DeathBurst1 votes

Both are punished. As it should be.

Quinzley1 votes

Lies. I've fed 20 games in a row and nothing happened.

DeathBurst1 votes

You've fed on purpose, 20 games in a row? I don't believe it, but hey, you can just show me your match history, can't you?

Quinzley1 votes

Yep, except I didn't run it down on. I just played really bad on purpose. Its pretty easy to intentionally ruin a game and then report whoever says anything to you.

DeathBurst1 votes

I'm still waiting for that link...

Quinzley1 votes

I'm not going to literally give away the account and risk Riots personal intervention. I'll wait until the system does something. You'll get the account if it gets banned.

IcyPepper5 votes

No, they should still keep punishing flame (why the quotations?). A mute button does not mean you should be allowed to be a poor sport.

If you can't be the bare minimum of respectful, why should you be allowed to play?

You shouldn't pretend like flame isn't real or a bad thing.

I Concur. Should be punishments for false reports, that would make people much less willing to report for no reason.

Blessed By RNG14 votes

The more reports you get doesn't matter at all, the system only needs and it only takes 1 report , getting 2 reports from the same game wont increase the chance of you getting punished

Xayah ReMiiXeD10 votes

I Don't think you have anything to worry about as long as you didn't blatently insult them, but I understand that the point is that there is even a chance that it could happen, which is unacceptable in my opinion. +1 because I see this too often and I usually feel bad for the guy trying to win.

Demented Gag8 votes

If you weren't toxic, you shouldn't worry about those false reports.

remakoro1 votes

trying to win is toxic

HalcyonDweller7 votes

No its not. If you trying to win gets labeled (by Riot) as you being toxic then you're doing it wrong. Pissing off teammates is a fast-track to losing. Learn how to try to win in a way that isn't counterproductive.

Edit: I stand corrected, they are referring to tilting opponents in order to win. I still stand against this, but it's important to acknowledge that I was wrong to assume they meant they were talking to teammates.

remakoro1 votes

I know you like projections, but why you have to assume such dumb shit? I never said anything about pissing off your own teammates. -_- But if i try to provoke and shittalk enemy team i would get reported and punished all the same.

HalcyonDweller4 votes

Oh so you decided to psychologically manipulate your enemies with chat?

Technically speaking that is a strategy that can be used, but it's extremely scummy. You should beat opponents with skill, not reduce them down to children to make them easier to beat.

remakoro1 votes

No technique is forbidden Zed

But some might get your banned... Rito pls...

HalcyonDweller5 votes

I'm okay with Riot banning people for trying to 'play' their opponents psychologically. That's not what this game is for, and doing so ruins the game for those individuals.

Find a technique that doesn't ruin the game for others. You shouldn't need that in the first place.

remakoro1 votes

Isnt that straight restriction on individuals skill? If i can play this way, why i should not be able to?

People keep crying about game being hard to carry solo but for some reason they are okay with this?

HalcyonDweller4 votes

Because it actively ruins the game for other people. You're making a conscious choice to use chat to make opponents feel worse, because you know it will make them play worse.

They're people for fucks sake. Just like you. They have favorite foods and music, and they have dreams and aspirations and loved ones just the same as you. Show a little humanity.

People keep crying about game being hard to carry solo but for some reason they are okay with this?

Not sure what you're talking about there, so I'm not going to respond to it.

Rebirthing7 votes

yea people will say 'report" to anything.

if u have a bad game, insult a teammate, criticize a teammate, don't group for a teamfight, miss a mia ping, take a buff by accident ...... Report.

it is stupid tbh.

Trias0007 votes

PS. You're not doing yourself any favors by expressing your anger in the chat. And I know because I've been down that road. I had a chat restriction for flaming back. And I regret it not because of the punishment, but because I let flamers provoke me and ruin my mood, when I should have just muted them and let their tiny brains boil from even more anger while they can do nothing to me when they're muted.

I know people say that it's easier to ignore flamers than trolls, but for me that's not true. I'm a poker player so I understand variance and donwswings and I guess that's the reason I'm not so bothered by short-term results that occur due to bad luck. I just lost a ranked flex game where we were 4v5. During the game I was somewhat upset, but that was because of my teammates' stupid decisions and some toxicity. But as far as the dc is concerned, that's just tough luck, it's bound to happen from time to time. All I can do is focus on making the best decisions and thus improving my winrate in the long run.

ModAcademy Kayn6 votes

I think you're missing one thing though. Remember that old controversy with Dunkey, where people were wondering why the heck the Malphite who trolled him into flaming (which got Dunk subsequently temp banned) wasn't banned for inting?

The thing is, if you checked that Malphite's match history, dude wasn't a troll in almost all his matches. It was only really with Dunkey that he did something stupid. So do we ban for single time offenses? Now, I don't know your Panth or Shaco, nor do I have their match histories. But that question remains, do we ban for single time offenses? It's not like there's a lesser version of chat restrictions, unless we wanted to implement smaller versions of bans.

If you say yes, once is all you need, than IMO, that might also increase false positives with those who are honestly having a bad day, because the system is designed to look at a lot of matches. If it sees you're getting mass deaths over many matches, without any sign of improvement, than that's a viable way to spot that versus a bad day. But only one match? It's not taking anything into consideration.

Chill Vibez5 votes

i hear u man. i always wondered why ranked games don't receive stricter punishments because there is actually a normal queue to be goofy or try new things or whatever.... like if there wasn't i could see why but you can go to normals, customs, aram, fun game modes. there really is no reason at all to be trolling off meta picks in ranked and then feeding hard with them :/

rtbf2256182415 votes

the game is probably on my record for the tribunal

What Tribunal? Did i miss something?

Centralize3 votes

the tribunal and report system is flawed af and only looks at chat logs. it's a broken system and needs to be completely reworked or deleted.

Starcraft243ver10 votes

That's straight up false.

  1. there's no tribunal anymore
  2. the IFS looks at patterns of play as well (walking in the base without csing or actually playing is well recognized as afking, selling items to buy crap is recognized as inting ...)
  3. There are manual reviews triggered for players having an odd amount of reports.
HalcyonDweller3 votes

Being outnumbered won't affect your likelihood of being punished. People like to act like ganging up on you has impact, but that's just because they want to threaten you and get under your skin. They're either mistaken or making shit up, or both.

Riot's report system can flag your game for review, but after that the reports don't count for anything (unless there is a manual review in which chase the feedback written in the reports might be taken into consideration). Here's how it works, if # of reports is greater than 0, flag game for review by the IFS. Then the IFS picks up the game and reviews your behavior in-game, completely ignoring how many or what kinds of reports you received. If it finds your behavior in that game punishable it marks that on your record and then if you have too many marks (or too severe of marks) on your record then the system actually gives you a punishment.

tldr; # of reports doesn't matter. It only takes one to trigger a review, more than that won't do anything. And whether you are punished or not is dependent on your behavior in-game, not the reports you get from that game.

Pika Fox3 votes

If youve literally done nothing all game and said nothing, the reports wont do anything, and even if they did riot would overturn any suspension/chat restriction that shouldnt have been applied.

Kyunsei2 votes

That's one of my biggest concern right now, I had a guy who recently said KYS to me on the end-game lobby, and guess what, no pop-up about any sort of punishment.

Most inter are auto-filled though.

Child of the Pit2 votes

Punishment popups are not always guaranteed to pop up after game, if he literally said KYS and you reported him you can be sure he got a hard punishment by now.

I have on numerous occasions reported very toxic players, and have never gotten an instant feedback report. I have also personally spoken harshly to flamers, telling them to Teemo off and whatnot, and had them threaten to report me for it. No results.

Either 90% of reports are simply disappearing into the ether or most of Riot's staff isn't following their idiotically oversimplified discipline rules and are instead exercising common sense like we all wish they would. I'm pretty sure it's just that one guy that actually believes in the policy that "context doesn't matter" and "negativity = toxicity".

La Belle Sauvage2 votes

100% agree "well maybe you need to be a little more strict in the ranked queues, because a lot of us come there to play our best and we don't want to deal with these people when there is a normal queue for such nonsense."

I've been lucky so far that I haven't had anything as bad yet. Well written post.

Velasan2 votes

I've played since season 4 and I've never had a punishment for anything. I don't say anything toxic, but believe me I've been in this same boat where I get 2-3 people saying to report me because they didn't agree with something I did in game. Whether that's I didn't build the way they wanted me to, or they wanted to rush the inhibitor and I wanted to baron, or they just got annoyed it happens.

I would imagine the majority of those people never actually report anything and are just venting from having bad games. Morale of my story here is if you really didn't do anything wrong you're not going to be punished. Just don't say anything toxic in chat and don't troll and you'll be fine.

The obvious solution is to not allow Ranked to give out BE, level ups, or chests. The more people resist this obvious solution, the longer and more painful this is going to be.
