Learning a Champ

So I've been playing League casually for nearly the beginning of this season (after a two year hiatus) and I really want to limit myself to a few champs to play during Unranked Rift. I've also been playing a lot of ARAM to learn team fighting even though it doesn't really work b/c the champs I receive are ones I don't know how to play. Should I continue to play ARAM and learn them or stick with Rift and pick a handful to learn? Also, I tend to notice that the items I build are ones that are recommended for me to build in-game. Is this a good thing to do or should I build random items to play around with? I forgot to mention this, but I tend to use mobafire for recommendations for item builds and guides but is this a good thing to do or should I just build randomly (within reason)?

  1. When you first make an account play SR and get your shit kicked in till you get what you supposed to do
  2. After that play ARAM till you get sick of team fighting and generally understand how a good portion of the characters work
  3. Then return to SR with the desire to learn a role, realize you're gonna get the teeth kicked in again
  4. Finally begin narrowing your pool of characters to 4
  5. Once you finally get a good 30 games or so on those four, take it to ranked and try it out.
  6. Now that you got some champs you got a handle on, focus on macro play (how to strong, how to get your allies strong, how to end)

Do that and you'll do fine friend :D (ps i'm teething through it too so ignore my rank lol)

Rikirie's input is pretty good, I'd say. Honestly, I think just playing more and more games on Summoner's Rift is the best way to go. I only play 3v3's and ARAM for fun, not to "learn the game." Although I'm "High Elo" I figure this is still true for someone who is newer to the game.

That being said, I loved the lore for Viktor originally and that's what got me into 1 tricking him. I would say find some champs you really love and get good at those, and after 20 or 30 games, take them into ranked and have a good ol' time.

See ya on the Rift!
