Vote to Kick System *END TROLLING IN CHAMP SELECT*

Okoon··90 votes·4,290 views

Allow me to draw out a scenario I am sure everyone here experiences at least once every 15 games or so:

In champion selection a player on your team does not get the role he/she wants, instead of playing a different role like a mature player, he/she decides to "troll" and auto-lock their desired role anyways, thus wasting 20+ minutes of everyones lives while your team inevitably loses. Or, if you don't want to lose you can choose to dodge which results in the troll getting off without punishment and you being punished instead.

I can recall multiple occasions where either someone auto-locks a champion and does not respect the pick order or where they just flat out say something like "top or feed" when they are last pick either forcing you to dodge, give them top, or lose a game.

This is something that has plagued this game for long enough and it really puts a sour taste in my mouth. I feel that this can be dealt with by implementing a "Vote to Kick System" where in champion selection if a team is suspicious of a troll they can vote to close the lobby and Riot gives the player a warning. The vote should require at least 3 teammates to agree. If a player is an offender 2+ times within a few hours they should be temporarily suspended or something along those lines. The details can be thought out more but the gist of what I'm getting at is that Riot should implement a system where players can have a vote of confidence to close the lobby so they don't need to dodge or have a horrible match.

but then the top 3 dicks have more reasons to kick the 5th cuz "reasons" and "ma elo". but why not 4?!!?! then it'll just be the rest of the team kicking off the 5th to save their elo.

TL;DR lyfe of the 5th/

i believe 3 is good doesnt have to be top 3, its not only 5th pick trolls. one good reason is duo's.

Juggernaut N14 votes

Horrible idea and easily abused. If someone doesn't like the team comp then they can easily kick out a random person.

The Lexer8 votes

Your choice. Innocent person gets punished 5% of the time while trolls are punished 95% of the time, or innocent person is punished 100% of the time.

The Queen Viper9 votes

Personally I would always start a "vote kick" when in unfavorable situation, being it my team comp or the enemies... since essentially it's a free dodge, so why not use it and abuse it.

Stupid idea is stupid.

Juggernaut N1 votes

5%? More like 95%.

All it's going to do is make them silent. Trolls will troll. They'll take a reasonable support lane and feed. Or watch you die. Or roam. There are only 3 ways to beat a troll.

  1. Ignore them (always mute)
  2. Be positive and compliment your team when they do well
  3. Play your ass off an win.

If only it were that simple...

Recently I had a game like this: I'd like to go top, but when I entered the lobby (I don't know the name of that screen :p), someone else asked it first... Ok then, I asked ADC. But then another player goes like 'Me and JohnDoe top'... The discussion begins and eventually someone dodged...

Good! I won't have to have a sh*t game... Or I thought I wouldn't...

When I got to the lobby again: same players, same scenario! The same 3 guys asked top...

So, we went to a game with 3 tops, no jg, and no support.

Even if I had ignored then (which I did), being positive, and played my ass off (which I believe I did since I had no support and I died fewer times than top), I don't think we had any chance of winning that match because it was just wrong since the beginning...

My point is, if I think that a player will not collaborate to the team, why would I want they to play with me? In the same way, people might not want to play with me if I instalock or start a discussion even before the game starts, so I should be punished as well.

You might argue that I should go for TeamBuilder games only. Have you seen how hard it is to get a game there if you don't fell like playing support? Sometimes I find a game and go run errands while we wait for one to show up.

I do understand that Rito might not want to have a prisoner's island, but it would be nice if they ask the players what is their opinion on the matter. I rather lose a game and have a good time with honorable players than win a really difficult game with a scumbag player trolling all the time.

Pro tip: If your game is dodged by someone else, exit the queue and do something else for 2 minutes, then requeue. That way you won't get matched with the same people, who could be upset from having to pick again.

hey. Pro Tip: Just because YOU managed to avoid the assholes, it now means some other poor bastard has to deal with them.

sweeping it under the rug doesnt make it go away and acting like your suggestion fixes anything just makes you look like as much as an ass as these trolls.

pro tips are pro. take it to heart or stay bronze.

I gave this exact same idea several weeks ago and I got downvoted to oblivion. Hate it when that happens. "you're silver 5 so you must be noob DOWNVOTED!"

Fatalitý5 votes

What if your in a normal with a 4 man premade squad and they all auto lock so you can't kick them but they vote to kick you because you're not in there group and they can abuse the system that way.

Sinlaire2 votes

this is intended for ranked where people have LP on the line for wins and loses.

if you dodge you lose LP for free just for dodging just to avoid a troll. dodging costs 5, loses ~20.

so lose 20+ minute and 20 LP or lose 5 LP immediatly because some asshole has 16 champions to play in ranked and refuses to use more than 1.

no one gives a shit, to be frank, about a kick system in normals and you can only duo at best in ranked unless its 5v5/3v3 team fights.

so trolls can be avoided that way. once again. this is a proposed ranked only defense mechanism.

CJ FTW5 votes

In a normal, I typically just finish the game and challenge myself to play as well as possible. Get into ranked, and I'll get pissed if I get a troll telling me they're going "AP LEE SONG" support.

Is it possible to have "Kick Tokens" much like rerolls in ARAM? The idea would be that you have an extremely limited amount of tokens, perhaps only 2-3 per MONTH; so you must choose wisely when to ban. If a particular person gets kicked repeatedly for trolling after 3-4 people use their kick tokens, then Riot would know that person is intentionally abusing teammates.

Just a thought. What do you guys think?

Or.... how about people who are verbally abusive and offensive in champ select before the game even starts, why should you be forced to play with someone like that, and punished for leaving a game you know will be horrible.

Why? Because he's still part of you team... and for people who are verbally abusive and offensive, there's mute. And ofc you report them after the game also.

{quoted} Other games have used the vote to kick system, if the majority of the team wants something/someone kicked how is that abused?

You are kidding right? Or are you seriously asking? ... bro like wtf, there are so many ways to abuse that thing. For example, just because majority doesn't like Shaco or Teemo or <insert X not-so-popular champ here> in their team, doesn't mean they are allowed to kick someone because of it.

{quoted}

Regardless something needs to be done with the champ select screen because the current system is B.S.

Well if you haven't payed any attention, RITO is already doing something... they are in the process of making a Team Builder system for ranked games.

To me, a ranked team builder isn't a fair representation of your ELO. You could be a platinum ADC, but have silver plays in the jungle because, well, you got to Plat spamming Kalista or something in TB Ranked Queue.

3TWarrior3 votes

this would be nice, but it would probably mean we'd get a match once in never XD

I think a way that would balance this is if players could choose a role that they prefer playing (or roles) and have matchmaking pair teams together by that standard, so the pick/ban still occurs without harming the player's aptitude

After a while people start trolling as soon as champions spawn, instead of when they're selected. The Vote to Kick system is now nothing more than an attempt to remove bad players/champions from your team. 11/10 doesn't work, would try again.

I've given it a try in games as far back as 1998.

Vote to Kick systems, whether done in pre-game lobbies or in-game are always, always abused. If it's not for someone "doing too good" then it's for someone picking something that is off the wall, if it's not for picking off the wall, then it's because they're a group of friends and they just can.

I've found that every single person who has ever asked for this idea has never actually been in a gaming community of a game that actually had this feature.

Commander Simmon2 votes

I like it it but it should only be done in ranked another problem is what happens when a player picks and out of the meta champion like Poppy

MeleeNuke2 votes

This will not work because trolls will triple queue and endlessly kick people for shits and giggles.

Sinlaire2 votes

you know that unless they're roughly the same MMR even if the enter at the same time they might not get the same match right?

unlike normals which balances entire team BR on average against the other, Ranked does the same but with tight "acceptable" ranges for the balance.

they realize Lp is at stake and take measures to the prevent high "skill disparity" based on mmr in teams to keep the one low guy from feeding and throwing games.

ZzRadio2 votes

Listen, it won't work, there's plenty of backlash that would come from a vote kick system if the votes failed in champion select.

It's extremely abuse-able to close a lobby by checking peoples rankings on a profile site, making you not have to play with someone if they're a ranking that isn't towards your liking.

People would resent each other throughout the entire game due to being voted against if the vote failed.

This is not a solution no matter how many times you suggest it. There are other ways that in time Riot will develop, Riot knows this is a problem and they're most likely looking into ways to help prevent these issues.

i agree we need a system for this, but i have issues with it as well. STORY TIME back in season 3, i mained ap sona mid. had 500 games with her in ranked, and an 80% win rate. the problem was getting this accross to my teammates is a pain. "troll mid pick" "i thought you were support cuz your sona" "mid sona is garbage". its going to happen where because some people dont like a champ they will kick someone. remember eve in season 2?

DeynaTaggerung2 votes

People have expressed some concerns about groups ganging up on poor innocents. Maybe a better idea is rather than voting to kick, voting to disband queue. Like a surrender vote 4 out of 5 people need to agree. This wouldn't hit the person causing issues directly, but it would also ensure we don't have false/positives. It'd just be a "this team can't get along and we don't want to go through with it"

Occams Raiser1 votes

fake reason to be concerned.

DeynaTaggerung1 votes

Not really. False positives really hurt Riot (take for example the AFK I agree that I did wrong issues) and it can really ruin someone's day. Better to remove the blame and focus on the thing that people really want out of this, a way to escape a queue that's going horribly wrong

Occams Raiser2 votes

I am for a vote disband as well. I just think that you can't bully a non troll into dropping and hurting themselves for the sake of others. I would need to see numbers. I don't like experiments shot down over psychological preconceptions. Try an Idea and take it out if it doesn't work. They nerf everything else, but THIS has to be perfect on roll out in theory and execution or its a non starter? BS

Tomate Cru1 votes

I thought that was the idea. Being able to kick a match, not a player directly (though it would be nice too do if someone is clearly a troll).

Regarding the abuse problem, what if you had only a certain amount of 'kicks/dodges' per week. It would make you spend it consciously.

So lets say, you have only one (to make it simple) kick per week. You went to a sh*tty team, someone is clearly a troll. You then start a kick vote, spending your only chance to do so (on that week). If the majority agree on dodging the match, then Riot could ask the reason. If everybody says that player A was trolling and the chat shows it, than player A should be punished. But if you start a kick vote and nobody agrees, you also become susceptible to punishment, and also lose your kick for that week.

I hope I made myself clear, English is not my native language.

DeynaTaggerung1 votes

The OP seemed to focus on a situation where there's a troll in champ select and nobody wants to play with that person. I think that's looking at it too narrowly and opening up the possibility of false/positives and people chosing one person to pick on because the team can't get along (or say nobody wants to play against katarina). So rather than a vote to kick one person out of the matchmaking why not just a vote to disband the team and re-queue. No one person is singled out in that case, there is no unfair punishments, and it would allow people to have more fun by only going into games with teams that more or less get along.

So for example I go into a ranked queue (BTW I think this feature only really makes sense in ranked, not normals) and three people want mid, there's arguing and last pick looks like they're going to get shoved onto jungle even though they can't play it. At this point I could start a vote for re-queue and everyone agrees because our teamcomp is turning out horribly.

Many times it's only 1 person causing problems but sometimes it's 2 or all 5 and people just can't get along with each other. I think it would help to reduce the amount of toxic games by letting everyone get out of that frustrating queue without having to shove all the blame on one person.

Can we please work out a compromise for those who are worried about how this can be abused?

I've already thought of a system.

If we vote kick a troll, that sends a chatlog to Riot, and if there is clear evidence that the suspected troll was indeed trolling , such as flaming, silent-instalocking, or explicitly saying s/he will troll, then that troll will receive appropriate punishments. However, if there is evidence that the suspected troll was merely playing off-meta, then the other four players will be punished with LP/MMR Loss and No Kick for the next game.

So... "silent-instalocking" is trolling now?

And that compromise doesn't kick in until after someone has been kicked. So it solves nothing of someone being kicked by abuse until someone can get around to it being reviewed, which could take X amount of time.

The system you've already thought of is still terrible.

SquishyArchon2 votes

While I agree that trolling in champ select is a major problem....

What safeguards are in place to prevent players from simply kicking someone who plays a "weak" or "troll pick" champ like Teemo? What's to stop your team from kicking you because you take an unconventional role like Karma top or support Lee Sin? Keep in mind there was a time where sending Ashe anywhere but mid was considered "troll" and then the meta shifted to support + adc bot and has been that way for years and years.

The sad fact of the matter is that the same close-mindedness and ignorance that gives birth to trolls also makes this community unable to handle higher levels of self-moderation privileges. I don't see any possible way for this system to not be abused and potentially punish an innocent player because his 4 try-hard tier list fanatic teammates think he's a troll for being a top Teemo main.

Ike Mercenaries2 votes

My ideas are this:

  • This system technically can be abused, and therefore it should probably require all 4 team members to kick the person, for example if you look up how good a player is on a website or whatevs.
  • The person should only get kicked if they have a high report rate. If they are just playing something kinda fun and trolly, that's fine. But if they are actually trolling and feeding, then they will likely have a large report history.
Iron IV dude1 votes

Wont happen as it can abused somewhat hard. DuoQ has instantly better chances, as soon as the enemy picks something that is considered op ,you always kick the last pick and stuff like that. Also it destroys any diversity "Pick Seju or kick!" You have to remember 95% of lol player base are dumb, immature kids, wanting to set the world on fire. Don't give them a tool to do so.

Occams Raiser2 votes

duo queue counts as one vote in these type of things. Abuse is not the reason this doesn't work.

Iron IV dude1 votes

It is maybe not THE REASON but at least A REASON why it wont be implemented.

As a Quinn main I would get kicked out of precisely 100% of champ selects, just for picking Quinn.

So I'm gonna go ahead and vote no to your dumb idea that has been already thought of 500 times before and still nobody has come up with a way to prevent abuse.

Maybe next time just search the boards first before posting this old idea. Better yet, stop acting like your post is going to finally be the post that gets this idea implemented, without making any effort at all to solve the abuse problems this would inevitably cause. Because it WILL be abused and to think it wouldn't is just naive. It would be abused by a vast majority of players because it's simply too convenient to get out of bad team comps or situations where your team doesn't feel like they have an edge. It would make getting into an actual match about 10x longer due to so many vote dodges, and it would breed even more animosity between players as they try to figure out who is the weakest link in their team EVERY champ select so they can decide if the person is weak enough (in their mind) to deserve a vote kick.
