Dodgeing

So, I've been playing league of legends for awhile and we all know that you get punished for dodging a game with a 5 minute timer for your next queue(or 30 min). I don't know if it's only me or other people as well get this a lot. There are some players that straight up start a game by saying something, "Ban this champ, I don't wanna lose to another Riven or some sorta champ that they lost last game." As a first pick it's up to you to decide what's best for your team. However, if you don't comply with the inquiry the player starts to threaten with trolling and feeding on purpose, which a lot of the time ends up the case. Why should I deal with someone complaining the whole game or feeding if I simply want to enjoy the game. I personally don't care what champ you play, just be respectful to other players and their choices. Is that to much to ask? Dodge timers are annoying that's all I have to say.

The dodge timer is there for very important reasons. Without it, people could and would dodge for any inconvenience, real or perceived. This would drastically increase queue times across the board because people would dodge to increase their win chances (you'd probably go through 15 lobbies before getting into a game). The people who did not ruin the queue by doing this would suffer in the form of lower win rates because they accept more of the less advantageous matches.

As for bans, the leader is chosen at random; just because he got first pick doesn't mean he knows better than everyone else. He is expected to work with his team and not just make bans without consulting them. Plus, in the new champ select the last 3 picks will do 1 ban each rather than the first pick doing them.

^ This.

Also, without dodge penalties you'd pretty much be forced to only play the FOTM champions... people already complain if you pick anyone that was not played in the last pro championship, imagine what would happen if they could leave when they please.

Changing dodge timers wouldn't really do anything for the problem you're describing. It would most likely just make things worse.

Consider each game consists of 10 people total. If each player has a 10% chance to dodge any given game for whatever reason (such as reasons you described above), then it works out that there's only a ~35% chance for a game to actually start (as 90%^10 = 34.86784401).

Allowing rampant dodging also wouldn't make needy players less needy, as they could easily dodge a game if they don't like what they see and send 9 other players in a perpetual loop of dodged games. Such players could also still leverage power through the increased rarity of a game actually starting, bullying allies onto other rolls with the threat of leaving.

Making dodging less punishing to the dodger also expands the situations in which dodging feels like a solid trade-off. Rather than begrudingly allowing that Urgot top-lane pick and being pleasantly surprised they did well, players would likely reinforce a very ridgid and dull meta by flat out preventing off picks from even being played - to the point half the roster that saw play at worlds would essentially be unplayable in solo queue.

TLDR: lessened dodge penalties wouldn't fix problems with needy players.
