Why I Can Never Rank Up

Lunarosity·3/29/2017, 4:20:08 AM·2 votes·1,758 views

There are loses and wins when playing ranked, but what frustrates me is that I always stay at the same level when I know that's not where I belong. I realized that when i have a win streak, I get more lp, but the win streak immediately follows up with a lose streak (only for ranked but not norms), and sometimes the lose streak causes me to get demoted. Then after the lose streak, I get back to a win streak, but the cycle just keeps continuing. So isn't this meaning that I will always get stuck at the same place or even lower? I played my mains Diana Lux and carried but seems like my team mates are not cooperating and or it is a very tilting game, which causes the loss.

I went through your match history. It is actually pretty rare that you do better than your team mates in your losses. When you are actually better than the rank you are playing at you will be able to do good whether your team wins or loses.

I am not sure why people make these types of posts.

If you are playing a carry champ and building inefficiently and not dishing out damage, you didn't do well. If you went 8-9-10 and you had an ADC go 10-5-16 and a top go 16-6-2, you got the loss you deserved, the ADC deserved 100% to win and the top at least 75% deserved to win. If you go 6-7-13 as a carry and do the same damage as someone that built full tank that went 8-4-12 and had another full tank go 12-9-11 and do 16k more damage than you, you deserved the loss, those 2 didn't. If you go 6-11-11 and have a team mate that went 17-8-12, which team mate made it so the team lost while they carried? Was it you or the guy that did 54k damage while the next highest in the game was only 36k? If you go 7-11-4 on a carry and again barely out damaged the tanks while you had an ADC that went 13-9-6 and did double your damage, was your team mates once again bad and uncarriable? Or were you again that guy that didn't contribute to a win?

I didn't have to pick and choose through your match history, these were your last 4 losses. I could go on and show how you aren't doing the " I played my mains and carried but seems like my team mates are not cooperating and or it is a very tilting game, which causes the loss." that you claim.

You won't get better when you focus on your team mates for your losses. All of your games, all of them, were winnable if you were better than the other team. A lot of your losses it looks like you had team mates that performed pretty damn well. They built right, had good gold income, good damage output, good overall stats while yours were well below average.

Focus on yourself if you want to improve, stop blaming your team mates. If you are better than the rank you are playing at then you will do better than the people you play with, win or lose.

Duo Q.

Find someone 1 sub division above or below who has a small champion pool and shows high mechanical aptitude (either from Norms or Ranked).

Don't do Supp/ADC... I recommend either taking 2 lanes or have a JG/Mid/Top combo.

Its much easier to climb Duo. Too much randomness and tilt in Solo. Also, stop playing whenever you get 3 losses in a row to avoid over-tilt.

Pick 1 or 2 champions and practice the hell out of the champ. Make sure that champion scales well into the late game and doesn't fall off; preferably they should have initiation or AOE damage capability.

You need to change your mindset of how you play league if your team mates really matter. Also, ironically, KDA doesn't really mean jack shit. Its a stat that might hold weight in an FPS but actually doesn't mean anything in a MOBA. It is possible to have an amazing KDA and be the SOLE REASON your team lost simply because you played in a way that was more about protecting your KDA than contributing.

Constantly running away from fights is easy. Constantly running away from fights will ensure your KDA is high. Constantly running away from fights will ensure your teams play 4v5 and lose more often than not. So having a good KDA is EASY, which is why it is not an important stat.

Focus more on stats such as Gold per Minute (GPM), damage dealt (If playing a carry), damage taken per death (if playing a tank), and if you improve THOSE stats you'll grow as a player. Worrying about your KDA will never make you improve, it will just make you a liability.

Someone that 1 for 1 trades to take out the enemy team's only carry contributed more to a fight than someone that did bare minimal damage because they played as safe as they possibly could to ensure they didn't die. The person that dove the carry, killed him and died in the process not even getting another assist won the fight while the person that landed 1 ability and not a single auto attack because they played so far back got backpacked in the fight.

The above example shows why having good GPM is important. If you are maintaing a high GPM and build efficiently on a carry champion you can pretty much always do a 1 for 1 trade on an enemy carry which puts your team in a position to win the team fight. If your GPM is REALLY good then you can kill the carry and do a significant amount of damage to more of the enemy team, which improves the second most important stat, damage dealt.

I see a lot of people that are newish to League make the same mistake and they all have the same problem of being stuck in an elo that they feel is beneath them; they think KDA is the most important stat in the game. This is also why I hate posts about people saying "Lets ban people that have 15 deaths in a game," because I've seen many games that were won because someone was willing to sacrifice their 'KDA' in order to consistently delete an enemy hyper carry that got fed off another team mate's mistakes in early game.

I always stay at the same level when I know that's not where I belong

There's a difference between feeling you should be ranked higher, and knowing you should. What actual, factual, proof do you have to support your claim?

So isn't this meaning that I will always get stuck at the same place or even lower?

Yes. Because that is exactly where you belong. By definition, if you can't advance past a certain elo, that is the elo you belong in.

How do you know where you belong?

It's easy to delude oneself regarding your abilities (in every aspect of life, not just league), and at the end of the day the only real way to really know is to put your abilities to the test and have some measurement that says how good you are. Often times, it won't line up with what you thought. Sometimes people feel like they're in way over their heads and they're actually boosted, but they really are quite good and just lack confidence. Other times, people really are bronze (or whatever rank<they feel they 'deserve') no matter how hard they try to explain away their failures (usually via blaming teammates, overlooking the fact theres 5 potential idiots on the enemy team compared to 4 on your own so statististicly speaking you'll always trend up unless you're at the same level).

People aren't going to hard carry every game no matter how good they are and some teammates are just destined to force the lose, so people will point to those games at be all 'gg elo hell is real', but everyone has those at every elo, and it's the 1/10 games where you are the deciding factor that add up. Remember that for climbing you don't need a 100% win rate, or even a 60% win rate, you just need to manage a >50% win rate and you'll slowly climb. If you don't let the losses tilt you and just kinda keep at it, after 100 games or so you should have a pretty clear idea of where you belong (or at least, you'll see that you are climbing/falling even if you don't know where you'll end up). If you're not seeing a winrate significantly different from 50% after 100+ games, then it almost certainly means you belong at that elo.

(I didn't look you up to see how many games you do have played. It may be that you do deserve a higher rank and you just haven't had enough games played, but usually these sorts of threads tend to be people venting about their frustration in their teammates, instead of focusing on improving themselves.)

nope it's not the system. it's you. but it's not your fault. elo is genetic. just like most people in life are mediocre and working class, most people in league are bronze/silver.

Thanks for the tips guys:) I really appreciate it. Maybe I belong where I am now... I guess I'll just use you guys' methods and try to improve myself. item 3070 item 2050
