Riot should consider allowing runes to be purchased with RP

I think riot should allow us to buy runes with RP as well as IP. Try and find the RP equivalent to what the runes would cost in IP. We've all run into the scenario where we have just too little RP to do anything with so allowing us to buy some runes would be nice.

Or make the entire Rune system free. It might as well be just like the Mastery system; currently it's only a trap to coerce new players into spending RP on IP Boosts and Champions so they can spend their IP on Runes.

I disagree, it forces you to gain experience in the game rather than derp your way through and go straight to ranked the second you hit 30.

Not only will those who do that be mechanically overwhelmed by more experienced players in their placements alone, but they'll also have an early game disadvantage (particularly in the jungle) where those runes really matter most.

Gaining knowledge of the game through experience is what levels are for...you can still go straight to Ranked at 30, but with Runes you are gimped compared to others whether you're in ranked or not if you don't get them, so are pressured to spend your hard earned IP to gain the same advantage instead of unlocking champions. Dota 2 has neither a Rune system nor sells its heroes, why not LoL? There is no purpose to it beyond making more people buy RP who wouldn't have otherwise.

Gaining knowledge of the game continues far past leveling to 30. Hell, a lot of people buy accounts.

The purpose of it is, unless you want to spend RP on champions, you can't have both 16 champions AND even one full rune page by the time you hit 30 - forcing you to gain more experience on the Rift.

Play more, gain experience, get into ranked, or buy your way in.

I'm not sure you understand that Riot is a business. Champions acquisition is gated...unless you pay cash. Runes which are necessary to compete are gated... even if you pay out, but paying cash helps. It's all part of the business model to make people play longer while also convincing them to spend some money.

Runes are specifically part of their design to generate cash flow. Making players gain more experience before playing ranked has nothing to do with it; especially since you can start without a single Rune.

Idk how you are so blind as to not see this.

Edit: I guess I never stated my actual point. - Selling Runes for RP would make the system even worse, since they are already designed to coerce you into spending RP -

If you actually started selling runes for RP, there's one major problem you seem to be forgetting: You lose the attraction of the game's "play to progress" environment. There would hardly be any point to progress if you simply bought everything right off the bat. People wouldn't play normals, people wouldn't want the first win of the day bonus - which is meant to keep you playing at least once every 24 hours, people wouldn't need any of that.

As a business, you gain money but lose appeal. you lose appeal, you lose money. Maybe you don't understand how business works in general.

"Play to progress"

Ya, just like how Dota 2 flopped because all their heroes were free and no equivalent Rune system.

Oh nope, it's doing fine.

Amount of games Riot supprts and has put out: 1 Amount of games Valve supports and has put out: HUNDREDS. Have you ever played anything on Steam? Yeah, that's Valve.

First, understand a business model, then understand that you can't have a cash cow with no appeal when you have no other plans to fall back on.

Blizzard has WoW - which was founded off of the free to play Warcraft, accrued an amazing playebase and then out came WoW - their cash cow. You can't buy your way through WoW either, you HAVE to progress. Again, play to progress.

Um ya, no matter how much you keep talking, the purpose of Runes is still for money. You keep bringing up things that have nothing to do with disproving that; and as a matter of fact you have only strengthened that point, so I don't know why you're still talking about it.

Maybe you're blind to the fact that runes make them zero money. Zero. You get them with IP. How do you get IP? Gameplay. Make the connection.

It's there to improve your experience in the game, and provide more diversity to what you can do. This has been explicitly stated multiple times by Riot employees - the reason for runes is to give you diversity (the same reason there are 123 champions) and set it further apart from DotA - hence, appeal. Their income is from skins. please think.

I have told you several times already how Runes ceorce players into spending cash on RP... it is not direct, it is indirect by pressuring players with few champions and runes. You are really dense if you didn't get that after that is solely what I've been talking about.

MrPerson101 votes

Runes don't pressure or coerce anyone into spending cash on RP - RP buys boosts, yes. Is it a significant boost? No. If it were more significant, would people buy them? Of course.

You don't understand a simple business model, and you're trying to call me dense. It's past your bed time.

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

So your defense is that RP boosts aren't significant? Yet again you prove my own point; I didn't say they made a ton of money off of it. Calling me a kid doesn't help your case either, only hurts it.

MrPerson101 votes

I dont recall using the word "kid" anywhere. Hmm, you're imagining things. Definitely past your bed time.

IP boosts are insignificant, and therefore in comparison to skins - are not purchased. You don't go out and buy an RP card to come back and spend it on an IP boost. Why would you when IP is earned, free.

Businesses don't make tiny bits of money here and there and end up successful. They have a main income source with a massive profit margin, that's how they make money. You don't understand that concept, so I'm left bewildered and wondering if you've ever actually held a job and understood how things work in the real world.

Appeal = client base. Will your entire client base in this case be paying? No. No, they will not. However a percentage of them will. A percentage that you have to be able to use the profits from to pay your employees, host special events, etc.

"IP boosts...are not purchased"

This is quite the claim. Please cite your source, or it will be obvious you are lying.

You're right, you didn't say the word "kid". You implied it. Twice.

That is all. Give evidence for your claim, and give up on the immature insults.

Edit: Oh and another thing; You left out how people buy champions. The Rune system costing IP also gets some people to straight up buy champions, not just boosts.
