How exactly does LP In ranked work?

I just lost a ranked game because our top ragequit in solo/duo que and lost 14 LP because of it. Is it based on your teams perfomance or yours? Because if it's the teams then that is really stupid.

Also I can lose my rank from this and be demoted right?

Yes, if you play too many games at 0LP you will fall.

It's based on MMR. 14 per loss isn't a bad LP loss it seems you're slightly above the MMR of your division.

Ahh gotcha, yeah It just made me mad because he was our tank and quit after dying before the game even went on for 5 minutes so I was worried about this happening often.

You'll lose some games, but if you deserve to climb you'll climb. It's not about winning every game it's about winning more than you lose.
