Gold MRR Wall?

Hello,

Quick question out of curiosity.

I'm currently Silver 2, on an 11 games winstreak, yet I am at 17LP/WIN and -22LP/loss, and my MMR has been stagnating around 1430 (Silver 1 MMR) for the past 5/6 games.

My understanding was that if you keep winning, your MMR increases and you eventually win more LP than you lose them, which is not the case here.

Is there a wall around Gold MMR? Because right now it makes it a little hard to get there.

Thanks!

Yes, but from my understanding number of games overall played has big impact aswell. For exemple for 300 games u've had bad MMR (around or below 50% win rate) after win streak ur LP win gain increases alot less then for example same win ration on 40-50 games.

Tdrl: The more games u've played the harder its to raise MMR as game places u where u "belong"

I see, that explains it then, thanks!

If you're in silver 2, and gaining 17LP per win losing 22LP per loss, you don't have Silver 1 MMR.

Sites like OP.gg may give you an MMR rating, but it's inaccurate. No one knows your true MMR. However, your MMR is what determines your LP gains and losses - so if your MMR is higher than your rank, you'll gain more per win than you lose per loss (so you'd gain more than 20 and lose less than 20), thus, we know your MMR is actually lower than Silver 2.

An 11 game win streak is definitely impressive and your MMR should increase with that (even though you've played over 250 games, so it's not going to affect your MMR as much as if it were in your first 50 or 100 games, but still...). Did you notice your LP gains increasing throughout the streak? e.g. did you start at getting only 15 LP per win?

I have to assume that 11 wins in a row made you climb a division or two. So while your MMR is rising, so is your rank. You may have started with bronze 1 MMR in silver 4, and are now silver 3 MMR in silver 2. You've closed the gap, but your MMR hasn't passed your rank yet.

Just keeping winning more than you lose, and it should get back to around 20-20.

I see, so op.gg fooled me all along.

I used to be even at a 50% WR with roughly 20/20LP, then suffered a loss streak that brought me down to roughly 47/48% WR, and I am now back to a 52% WR.

So based on your explanation, that loss streak is probably what brought down my MMR.

Thanks for the clear explanation! I will stop relying on op.gg's MMR estimation.
