Remember the reset effectively smushes all the divisions together. There's no Diamond, Master, or Challenger until people climb out of plat. As that happens, the divisions shrink back down in size, people occupy the newly created space, and people shake out into their proper ELO. This makes things like a tournament, where everyone has a fresh start, but the results are seeded in a way that benefits previous good performance.

At least you didn't drop all the way from Challenger to Plat, those guys must be pissed each season.
