League of Legends Must Expand Its Banning Phase
It's the sixth season with more than 120 champs to choose from, so I think it's about time the banning phase has expanded. Thoughts?

Why is the topic about bans kept so low-key?
Agreed! This would be a great new thing to see. Since there is such a wider variety. Of champs nowadays.
Yes, with even more variety than ever before, the banning phase should thus broaden so it can better deal with the extra variety.
I think it's fair enough to say the client itself, not just banning phase, should be altered to better fit it's diverse and expanded amount of champions (filters on champion classes like in the shop, ie: assass, mage, fighting, marksman, etc, would be a good start during champ select)
hehe you said ass ass
whoops :3
I still don't get why people can't just ban one champ apiece at the start, at the very least...
Well, a good reason why not everyone gets a ban is because Riot is encouraging players to learn how to play against champions. Nobody would improve if they could ban whatever champion they hate the most
That's not really much of an argument. What about the base six bans? If that were the case, why should bans exist in the first place? And I'll tell you why. It's supposed to be about strategy. Banning strategically should be meaningful.
And thus, the ban total should be increased, especially because of the current roster size. Six bans = not enough.
Definitely! While its not good to copycat, but Dota only has like 112 I believe yet each team gets 5 bans
Yes, it's 10 bans total, and the banning sequence is split up so teams can get hints of the other side's strategy.
I'm against 'more bans' in general as it doesn't solve anything (just slightly shifts the currently op but not banned champ list around).
A more dota like banning experience miiiiight add something to high level competitive play, but would probably also add even more complications to draft mode for the majority of players than they would want to deal with.
But you are implying that the banning phase just bans out the (supposedly) strong champs instead of being used for strategic purposes. If that were the case, Riot might as well just automatically ban the six current champs with the highest popularity and skip the banning phase altogether.
What I am saying is, especially as the roster of LoL has grown so big these days, is to add more bans so you actually have the possibility of banning outside of the default six all of the time.
Now that I think about it, isn't there some Riot sponsored tournament where the teams go through two selection phases cause the 3 ban thing isn't enough?
Is there? o_O
But yeah, more bans are long overdue.
This is another matter altogether, but I believe the banning sequence should be changed as well.
To ban first and then pick, especially with a champion pool this large, it's next to impossible to figure out what the other team is going to pick.
This is how Dota 2's Captains Mode does it:
Captain A Bans
Captain B Bans
Captain A Bans
Captain A Picks
Captain B Picks
Captain B Picks
Captain B Bans
Captain A Bans
Captain B Bans
Captain B Picks
Captain A Picks
Captain B Picks
Captain B Bans
Captain B Picks
Captain A Picks
Though this is just a separate matter, because Dota 2 is its own game, so you have to realize that a LoL equivalent wouldn't have to copy this exactly or anything. Something to break up the picks and bans to be more interesting is the key.
I just keep seeing glimpses of people banning the SAME bans over and over again.
for some reason riot just ignores threads like this even though this needs to happen badly
I am surprised it hasn't yet. Quite frankly, I thought the game would at least be at eight bans by now. At six bans for 130, I am legitimately shocked.
How about Blind Pick with Champions bans?
As a separate mode, sure. But if we are talking about ranked play, that's a different story.
I think it'd be better if this game was well enough designed that we never needed bans to begin with.
That's not the point of bans. Or at least, it shouldn't be the point. If that were the case, Riot should just ban the most popular champs every patch and skip the banning phase. And that would be totally lame.
Bans should be strategic. They should not be used solely for banning the FOTM champs, but it's currently been the latter for years and years. When will people realize that banning could be so much more?
