Post from reddit, Should be here too. Regarding someone botting player usernames so nobody can getem

There is a league rule where if a name is not used within a time span, it is set to be available. I contacted Riot support regarding a few usernames and they linked me a website to use that gave me the timer for remaining names ( which mostly everyone knows about lolnames.gg incase you don't )

I checked a few usernames and saw two that were pretty crazy coming up within the week. ''Sonic'' was one and ''Rule''.

I checked the op gg of these two usernames, they don't have a single game for like 2+ years.

So everyday I checked back and even sent in a ticket so I can snatch one of these usernames. I kept spamming ''switch name'' and even when the timer went into the negatives, it said the name is not available. I kept spamming it for a very very very long time maybe almost two hours I kept checking. I couldn't get the name it was gone..

I felt as if something was odd because when I checked the op gg of BOTH Sonic AND Rule and the people who NOW own these two names, have only one bot game that lasted 1 second.

Ok something is wrong here. So the two people who snagged the name Sonic and Rule only have one bot game? That lasted one second? You know when you put 2 and 2 together and you get 10? This is one of those times. One of the games wasen't even recent, the new person with the name ''Rule'' had a bot game that was a month ago.

So now i'm like ok this is obvious name selling. I search ''league of legends name seller'' and after NOT EVEN 2 MINUTES, I see the names SONIC AND RULE for sale under ( i will not list the persons discord here )

I have more pictures but you can see in this last one that they posted a bunch of names for sale, you can see the name Rule is for sale.

So this one person snatched both names and is selling them USD. I joined the discord on a fake account very recently and asked a few members. They said the person who is in charge of the name selling macros/uses an app to secure the name for them self and nobody else.

The person who took these names, has at least 100 names for sale on their website and discord, and is selling spots in all these clubs.

Name selling is against TOS, and I thought it was extremely extremely unfair that someone is able to make a profit while cheating everyone else out of the usernames they want. I do not care that I lost the names. I care that I lost the names in an unfair manner to where I had no chance despite staying at my computer for hours trying to get the name.

I'm really annoyed because now there is a name that will be free'd in some months that I really want but can't even fight for since I know i'm going to lose it to this person.

I have much much much more proof that i'm willing to share if need be but I tried to make this short and sweet.

File a support ticket with this evidence, this isn't the place to accuse or report players of rule breaking.

On a side note, if it were as easy as googling "League of Legends name seller" and banning the first person they see in a Discord or on a website, Riot probably would have done it.

Considering how unbelievably easy it is to find accounts for sale and boosting services, you really think it's that hard to find people selling names? Riot hasn't done anything about it because it would be pointless, services get put up as fast as riot takes them down, they would spend too much time on it and it would take their focus away from things that are more important.

Do you think someone that deep into a black-market style business would be so foolish as to have their League account or personal information so readily available through a few minutes of searching?

I'm aware it's not at the top of Riot's priority list but my point is if were that easy to link a name and rule breaker together, they would crack down on the very easy cases when possible. From the looks of the post, the person in question has probably been doing it for a while.
