How to climb out of Bronze?

Krubby··1 votes·1,013 views

Sure there are videos for this on YouTube and all but I wanted to ask the forums page how you guys got out of bronze. Maybe examples of winning lane or playing towards objectives throughout the map. One thing I have a lot of trouble with is communicating with the team, for example; Trying to get the team together for a push but the tank stays top killing minions while we get a nice 3v5 and lose. TLDR; Any tips on how to climb would be nice. :)

Bronze players make too many mistakes in lane, you have to identify them and snowball a lead. Just play the game solo, dont rely on your team at all.

I'm far from being a great player, since I've never gotten any higher than Silver (hopefully I can do it this season!), but I have managed to get out of Bronze twice before. Here's my advice based on having a fairly hard time climbing and then finally making it after trying different things:

• Don't tilt. No matter how far behind you are, how frustrating you find the enemy champions to be, or how many objectives you've failed to get, just do not tell yourself it's lost and give up. Players in low elo, especially Bronze, throw games all the time, and even if they don't throw, things like having the right comp and going for free objectives can get you back into the game. Keep playing and tryharding (no, tryharding in ranked is not bad like some people think, as long as you're not toxic to anyone) and don't let the "gg it's lost" spammer bring you down.

•Ward as much as you possibly can, and buy Control Wards. A lot of people in low elo skip buying Control Wards and underestimate the advantage they can give you. Utilize that and use them to control objectives. Also, try to respectfully ask your teammates to use their trinkets if you notice that they have charges on them but aren't using them to give the team more vision.

• Don't be afraid to play tanks and/or support, at least from time to time. I got out of Bronze last season largely by playing Brand support. This season I got out of Bronze by playing (read: spamming) Nautilus top and mid—yes, mid, which brings me to my next point...

• Don't be afraid to try off-meta picks. If Yorick mid or Brand jungle works for you and you can do well with it, go for it. What matters most is whether you can do well, not whether your pick is meta. Just ignore teammates who flame you before even seeing how well you are going to do on the pick.

• Get a duo you can trust and preferably communicate with via TeamSpeak, Discord, etc. Having a communicative duo makes it much easier to win games and focus the right objectives and right targets in team fights. I can't emphasize the importance of a good duo enough. The duo doesn't have to be a smurf at all; a duo of the same or a similar rank as you but a good mentality (i.e., no tilting or blaming teammates for his or her own mistakes, etc.) should be enough for both of you to eventually climb at least out of Bronze.

• Capitalize on mistakes in lane, but if you manage to kill your lane twice or something like that and you have a huge lead, don't rely on repeatedly killing him or her and not helping other lanes. Use your advantage to roam and "export" your lead to other lanes. You can also try to roam inside the enemy jungle to place deep wards and make the enemy jungler's life hell, giving your team extra laning space and freeing up objectives for your team to take (which you should respectfully ask them to do if they don't get to it on their own).

• If your team has little or no CC and no tanks and you can pick a tank, go for it. A lot of players think that they can carry the game no matter what the team comps are and end up losing even if they have an early lead because of the lack of tanks in team fights. If you're against two assassins, for example, and your team has no tank, don't go for the squishy, no-CC jungler or support unless you're an absolute master at the champion and usually carry with him or her even against very unfavorable comps.

Sorry for the length of this post, but I wanted to go into as much detail as I could because of how much the above tips were useful to me in my own climb out of Bronze. I hope they are helpful to you as well.

Best of luck, summoner!

No problem! Also, one more thing: don't underestimate the importance of farming (without stealing farm from teammates and setting them behind). If you literally have zero kills but good CS, you can still get the items you need to reach your power spike, depending on which champion you're playing. If you find yourself not being very useful in general and are down on kills, try to farm up and look for opportunities to help out within your available means.

Good luck again!

Snowball the early game and then don't let the enemy back.

Learn your fundamentals, farm well. As much as possible try to make plays that have a high reward and a low risk. buy control wards.

Well, what I see from most Bronze players is they often play for kills, not objectives. Focus on getting objectives, focus on farming. Stay calm, don't tilt. All tilting will do is make you perform worse.

Maybe have a friend play with you. Having a friend play with you gives you someone you trust & can easily communicate with, plus for some people (like myself) gives you a sense of security & makes you feel a lot more calm.

Team morale is also pretty important as League is a team game, so maybe try to keep the team positive.

Also, off-meta picks in different roles are okay. If you play a Champion in a role they're "not intended to play" that's better than playing a Champion you don't know how to play.

Sorry if this late, or a little long to read. Hope this helps you!

CS well. This is the big thing. It doesn't matter what lane you are in, if you can't CS, you are hurting yourself. A full wave of CS is almost a kills worth of gold, so missing those minions will hurt you. Obviously, don't put yourself in danger for CS, but be sure to get the CS that you can get uncontested. You play jungle a lot, so I'm not sure what ideal CS for a jungler is, but for a laner, strive to have 70+ CS every 10 minutes.

Look at what is strong in the meta. Last patch, Caitlyn and Lucian were really strong, so playing those champions was an easier way to climb over playing other champions. If you are good with Elise, for example, she's supposed to be a strong jungler, so learning how to play her might help with your climb. Additionally, she's one of the few AP junglers, which helps with those full AD comps we see a lot down here.

Take advantage of the chaos. I play a lot of Brand support to help cover up the weaknesses of my team. Because of that, I tend to do a lot of damage cause people don't really know how to behave around a Brand. The entire enemy team clumps up, time to ult. Someone is running away with their ally, time to ult. I don't play jungle, but there may be a jungler like that where people don't know how to play vs this champ and thus die a lot cause of it.

Look at the mini map and ping. Very few people in low elo understand how important the mini map is. If you can use your map and try to help your team by pinging while they ignore their map. It may not work, but you may be able to get people to listen to you.

Figure out who is strong and help them. If you have a 5/1 top laner, try to keep them safe. If your bot lane is strong, try to help them. The number of times I'll have a 15/2 Draven or a 20/5 Kog'Maw and our Zac jungler is busy building Dead Mans Plate instead of something like Knight's Vow amazes me. If someone on your team is that far ahead, help them carry. They may not need the help, but it never hurts to make sure your win condition stays alive. Additionally, stay around them. If they are stupidly suiciding, then ignore them. but if they are making good decisions, then stay around them and help them.

Take free kills, don't strive for the outplay kills. Had a game where the enemy Draven was solo pushing top lane, so I pinged him two or three times and started running at him, while the rest of my team ran at the enemy team who was mid. A 4v5 is good, but why not get the 1v5 kill that's basically guaranteed unless we royally screw up over hoping we outplay?

Respect global ults. If there is a top lane Shen, focus ganking him over other lanes because he can't ult himself, whereas if you focus bot or mid lane, Shen can join the fight and counter gank you. Same with Twisted Fate. Pantheon is a little harder, but if you can put him behind, he'll be less hassle later. Additionally, in these games, DON'T BE ALONE DURING LATE GAME.

Understand the strengths and weakness of your laners. Nautilus is a great tank, but he will be a tank regardless if he's ahead or behind, whereas getting a Fiora ahead is really important cause she'll snowball much better if she gets some kills early. Fizz will generally be pushed in early game, but will eventually hit 6 and then roam to get kills. Applying pressure pre-6 might help him survive the weak part of his game, same with Kassidin. Katarina and Draven need to snowball to be good, so help them.

There's probably more but I was trying to think about generally advice, not laning advice since you're a jungler, which is not a role I play.
