Jumped from no rank to silver 1?

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the ranking system and I wanted some explanation as to why this happened. I recently played 6 ranked games with a 4 other buddies of mine who are in all different leagues ranging from plat to silver. we won 4 in a row and lost 2. I was unranked from the start but as soon as we lost game 5 I was promoted to silver 1 and I'm quite puzzled as to why I didn't start with bronze. Long time league player (since Irelia release) and never once played ranked. I have almost 1000 wins in normal games but I don't think that even matters.

Its extremely hard to get placed directly into Bronze. The vast majority of players will end up in Silver after placements.

Your first 10 games in ranked are placement matches and have a higher win/loss on elo (rating). Once you complete them it places you into what division it believes you have the most similar skill level at.

So based on how you performed in your placement matches, it put you into silver 1. (this is so you don't have someone playing at a diamond level starting ranked have to plow through bronze silver gold, etc and ruin matches for those players)

Quick question, not trying to hijack this thread but I'm looking to start playing ranked this season. The first 10 games are placement games as you said but, do you play with other unranked people during these placement games?

(Similar function to how when you are in your promotion series it will try to pair you with people in their promos but cant always).

From your placement games you will be placed around, normally just below, your hidden mmr rating. However this rating does not start around bronze, in fact this rating starts around mid silver (maybe even higher end of silver) and hence with an even win ratio with elo inflated each game due to some higher rated players in your team hence overall game you would have gained slightly more mmr than lost from going even. This will have pushed you up to around silver 1 hidden mmr.

Most people get placed around silver 3. I'm not even sure if it's possible to get placed in bronze on a fresh account.

season 3 lol i ended up in bronze 4 :/ lol i though i was the best player at that time. what can I say to you double xp and ip didnt help and sure didn't help me that my friend encourage me and told me i was good then later realized 1 season later he lied D:
